  1. Sorry I didn't want to come off sounding too critical. Good work though. I don't know if you have the data but I would be really interested in seeing a comparison of even strength goals across those individuals.

I'm going to take another look and collect all of the players down to 35-40 goals to get a broader range. Ill get on it once this World Lacrosse Championship game is done

I'll see what I can do about ES Goals, I dont know if eliteprospects will have those tracked for every season and every player.

  2. still better than Honzik.

I think had Honzik played in any league but the QMJHL he would have developed way better. He had all of the raw skills needed and really impressed with his pure athleticism.

Demko is hands down the better prospect than Honzik ever was though

  3. So you took players best years not necessarily their draft years?

Why not add players below Virtanen to give more perspective rather than a bunch above him.

Also you mixed up Tavares years. 05/06 he was 15. 06/07 he was 16. As a side note, everyone is so impressed by Connor McDavid's 16 year old season but Tavares 72 goal 16 year old season makes it seem average.

It was the top Under-18 goal scorers, a category that Virtanen has been hyped up because he falls under. I completely forgot about Tavares. Anyways Im amazed at only having one mistake considering I did it at 4am

  4. I posted this on HF:

For fun, and because I can't sleep at all, I decided to do some stat tracking to see where Virtanen sits amongst the top U18 goalscorers of the CHL (since the 2000-2001 season, turn of the century pretty much). Because eliteprospects doesn't track stats across all three leagues of the CHL I did it by hand and recorded the top single-season goalscorers of every league down to the "Virtanen Standard". Ties were determined by total points, if a further tiebreaker is needed, GP shall be used. Here it is:

So, as I said, I did this because I wanted to see where Virtanen stood amongst prospects in recent years in his strongest attribute.

What I learned from it is that Ehlers is a great scorer, like really good at scoring.

  5. I'm sure he will sleep fine, too. And he will work again. He has a winning track record. Cup Ring.

I'm of the unpopular opinion that Burr is a rat. That means I'll get ganged up on. Who cares?

Also, I have no special place in my heart for Torts. Frankly, I think he's a jerk. But people talking smack as though Torts doesn't know what he's talking about. He coached in the NHL. And is a champion.

Or, no. Wait. I mean, how dare a coach push for a buyout when a player has an absolutely miserable season!?!?!

    That's CDC's job.

    Hi torts

  6. I would be so rattled if Hutts pulled a Schultz on us, doubt he would though. Even though some chick from his Uni interviewed him as a "Campus Sports Cutie" or something and he said his favourite sports team was the Colorado Avalanche.

  7. "If these trends continue... Heyyyyyyyy!" - Disco Stu

He scored 20pts in the first 9 playoff games, then 8 in the remaining 7. It is what it is.

Yes, the vast improvement over the season. It is what it is.

  8.

I am not accepting the 70% number unless it's from a legit source, I am not going through every single game played by the moosehead to see if you're right. Get a life, seriously. I am also not going to read 42 pages of this thread, to see what has and has not been discussed.

Hope one of the top 5 fall, if not Virtanen or Perlini, I would pick Virtanen over Ritchie because Ritchie is older by 8 months and has played esentially an extra year in junior. Virtanen's forecheck would be menacing, even if this guy doesn't reach his potential (Dustin Brown) you have a guy like Rafi Torres playing on your third line. I'd love to have this guy on the Canucks. Perlini don't know much about, he is big, good skater, okay numbers, might be the safer pick.

Any value in your opinion of who we should draft = gone. On second thought, this was a bit harsh, but still.

Perlini is a streaky player who completely dropped off in the latter part of the season. He'll probably go in the late teens.

Look, the fact of the matter is that there have been hundreds upon hundreds of posts on numerous forums debating Ehlers points. Literally. He achieved the vast majority of his points without Drouin, and as he adjusted to the NA game, his PPG steadily increased (as noted here http://www.lighthousehockey.com/2014/4/4/5582298/comparing-nikolaj-ehlerss-points-per-game-to-recent-qmjhl-standout )

edit: url not working http://www. lighthousehockey.com/2014/4/4/5582298/comparing-nikolaj-ehlerss-points-per-game-to-recent-qmjhl-standout

He went from a 0.86 PPG in September to a 2.43 PPG in March and a 2.5 PPG in the 1st round.

His stats will likely drop down slightly next season as the Mooseheads veterans leave the league and he has more responsibility but the fact remains that he had Drouin level scoring as a rookie in North America. Dale Tallon is incredibly high on him and has compared him to Patrick Kane (really doubt he ever is as good as Kane but still). I would 100% take him at 6, and its entirely plausible that the Islanders take him at 5 because they will be looking for a winger.

In that event I would take Dal Colle in a heartbeat.

  9. BanTSN needs to watch Ehlers more. His compete level is excellent, his mobility is excellent, his defensive game is underrated. It is definitely better than Nylanders. Ehlers also has an excellent scoring touch and drive to score. He'll take a hit to make a play and he isn't afraid of throwing his, albeit thin, body.

Nylander's release is actually very good, he has a way of smoothly rolling the puck off of his blade during wrist shots that is very fluid and very quick.

I would also state that Virtanen's anticipation is pretty horrid. The times I've watched him play, he has been at the wrong place at the wrong time consistently and it has disrupted the cycle. He needs to either hit the books/footage and learn his role/position perfectly to the point where it is just instinct to go to the right place or have a coach drill it into his head.

  10. man-o-man....that report basically says that possibly 6 picks on the table....Ott 1st, Ana 1st, Tor 2nd, Ana 2nd.....+Ana 1st/2nd in 2015. AND either Etem or Rackel? Yikes....imagine 6 picks in First 2 rounds this year and 4 in first 2 rounds next year.

I dont think that all of them were available in the same package but they were all available

  11. looking at the standings, we are pretty much guaranteed to pick 10th

OTT looks like they will pick anywhere from 6-9

if there pick isnt 6th, I'd ask for a 3rd piece, I heard rumours they were totally fine with moving Vatanen - can anyone confirm?

    Kesler +1-2 of

    (2nd, B+ prospect, Hansen)

    for Etem, OTT's 1st, Vatanen

If I am ANA I totally do thay trade and I feel great about it - they still have a lot of young players on that team - Rackell - DP-smith, kerdiles, theadore and Langiniere all coming up

    http://www.ocregister.com/articles/ducks-604471-murray-kesler.html

Honestly heading into the trade deadline that Anaheim package was my ideal return for Kesler, I didnt care for Sutter + Pouliot + 1st too much.

I think that Gillis was going too hard to get the roster player in the package. Im assuming that the player would be Bonino, who there is no way Anaheim moves in a package thats already this big (and hes a key player for them now). Getting Etem + Vatanen gives us too very solid offensive prospects at positions where we will be needing them soon, and Etem has historical chemistry with Shinkaruk. The 6th overall pick could easily be anyone from Dal Colle to Draisaitl or Ehlers and any of those three would be fantastic additions to our team.

  12. Honestly I think we're most likely to end up at 9th or 10th with one of McCann, Perlini, Nylander or Kapanen.

Perlini looks like an absolute Gillis pick with his size, speed, skill combo. I think he's a little risky but I wouldnt mind him in the long run, looks like another Jensen type.

McCann I would like second most out of this quartet, he has a solid wrist shot, decent size, a solid two way game and underrated offensive upside. Some guys on HF have christened him a Toews-lite, which I am skeptical of but I like that he has a solid floor/potentially rising ceiling to him.

Nylander I want the most because of our need for top offensive players for the future. He has a high octane offensive game and has been showing very impressively in the SHL from the games and clips I've seen of him. He has a bit more risk to his game but the payoff could be absolutely worth it.

Kapanen is a player that I have not seen play but he was a parallel player to Ehlers earlier this year before Ehlers exploded in the CHL. He has a fast game with good two way play but he isnt very physical from what I've read. Really don't know too much about him but he averages from 10-15 in a lot of rankings so figured he would be on our radar.

For me I think best case scenario is that Ritchie or Ehlers fall to us.

Best of all time (BOAT) scenario would be trading Kesler+ to Anaheim for Etem and Ottawa's pick (projected 6th overall, maybe 5th if they continue tanking like a boss).

That 6th overall pick gives us a definite chance at one of the 2nd tier of players behind the Big 3: Dal Colle/Draisaitl/Ehlers.

  13. Still wouldn't touch Ehlers, that script has been written with overhyped undersized forwards (yes, undersized - he's listed at 5'11'' everywhere other than eliteprospects). These types of players get it done in junior but fizzle out before the big show. There's countless examples, from our very own Jordan Schroeder, Zach Hamil to Gilbert Brule and Angelo Esposito. It's extremely difficult in today's NHL, and especially the Western conference, to fit in an undersized forward for the sole purpose of his offensive skills. There's always a good chance the scoring doesn't translate, and at that point what else can he bring to earn a roster spot?

If Ehlers falls to us past the top 10, and guys like Virtanen, McCann, and Perlini are taken, then maybe you consider Ehlers. Even then that's a pretty big gamble for a guy who's supposed to be our consolation prize for missing the playoffs.

There is no way in hell I even contemplate taking Virtanen over Ehlers, same with Perlini, and McCann would be like taking another Horvat when there's a Drouin/MacKinnon lite right there.

Jake Virtanen has some tantalizing assets with his size, speed and shot, but his head is not in the right place. He has issues with positioning and work ethic to maintain the puck in the offensive zone and maintain the cycle. Sure with great coaching he can overcome these issues but he has a high risk to bust if he cant adjust. I am a huge fan of his and think that if he can translate his rush play and physical game (remarkable ability to ragdoll dmen with the 'reverse hit') to the NHL and can work on his passing then he will be another Evander Kane.

I'm not a big fan of Perlini. He seems like a player who is worth taking in the teens but in the top ten he carries a risk with him. He is a big body with speed and a shot, but isn't physical. I would much rather take McCann, who has underrated offense while being a very solid defensive forward.
