  1. Big defence and big bottom six definitely helps provide a counter balance
  2. I am more concerned about having size on the backend, which they have started to address. I agree they need to bring in more size up front where possible but don't think it will be a limiting factor this year...hopefully they can get in the playoffs and go on a run.
  3. And this will be Yzerman's fifth season and it has been seven years with no playoffs. It shows you that no matter how you do it, building a playoff team takes time. They have some nice pieces but no real game breakers so will be interesting to see if they can become more than simply a middle of the road team. To me, it also shows why the Canucks need to go for it with EP, QH, and Demko in place. Need to take a shot at building a team around them.
  4. Last year was his worst year and he scored 14 goals, I mean, I would pretty happy with 14 goals from the third line center. Would like more assists than 10 but the guy obviously has some touch (along with being solid defensively and good on the PK). - New structure from the coaching staff hopefully pays off with some more wins - improved PK should add some more wins - Better goaltending will help - New leadership group will help (i.e. Hughes taking more of a lead, etc.) - Hopefully one or two breakout seasons from Hogs, Podz, Hirose, etc. Mgmt has done a solid job this summer, hopefully players do the same this season
  5. Have been hoping for this so glad mgmt was able to make it work. Solid piece, plugs agap and provides some redundancy down the middle
  6. So glad Horvat is gone. Behind FA, was the second element most holding this team back. New, winning attitude was/is greatly needed. JT Miller saying what everyone knows re: Vancouver media hilarious
  7. I don't know enough about Peeke to land one way or the other at his point; however, Peeke is young, on a fair contract, and I have heard decent things. If he truly is a solid stay at home RHD, probably a solid trade for the Canucks. Trade strength for weakness. Thoughts? https://www.nhltraderumor.com/columbus-blue-jackets-vancouver-canucks-working-on-a-trade/ QH Cole/Peeke Soucy Hronek Cole/Peeke/Myers/other
  8. Problem is only extreme individuals in the fan base actually listen to the media or go on twitter so that is all that gets reported...Van Mgmt just needs to stop reacting to it. Go the Trader Joe's route and tell the negative minority to get lost
  9. Not sure how wearing #28 would have been disrespectful. Luc Bourdon's passing was a sad and horrible moment but I feel like players wearing his number only enhances the memory of Bourdon. Can't believe this was used for negativity by some in the Van community. Mind boggling to me but everyone is entitled to their views.
  10. Hronek is an RFA next year so a factor...but fully agree, that is not the package that will get Pesce.
  11. Or even sign someone like Pius Suter (PK, faceoffs, etc.), take a flyer on Zadina with EP (creates chances, just couldn't bury them), and have cap space left over. Depth and flexibility for the first time in how many years?
  12. Grain of salt: @racheldoerrie : "I think Tyler Myers is going to get dealt...I believe that bonus was paid this week, based on the info I have. If it hasn't...the Canucks can opt to pay it early so they can facilitate a trade. That is an option." https://twitter.com/sekeresandprice/status/1677446220384710656?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
  13. In a contract year so would expect a decent year from Myers. Cap is horrible but on the third pairing with a sound defensively minded partner (not what OEL is at all) he should be decent. Get the best out of him and then trade him at the deadline regardless. Even if in the playoffs, team should be able to fill the gap with his departure.
  14. Bloom and Sasson together could be a deadly duo...hope they shoe promise and the ability to rise to NHL team together.
  15. Still a lot of cheddar to turn down if the Canucks come with a solid offer. Things are obviously moving in a more professional, positive direction with the current mgmt. If he wants this team to be good, he is better off commiting - allows the team to budget long-term, he can help recruit, shows the team leader is sticking around, etc.
  16. Even with no extension I would think Carolina would still be looking for a 1st and 2nd. Pretty rich for a UFA but might be worth it to get Hughes a long-term partner. 6 years would be great but I wonder if the player would agree.
  17. I assume the asking price would be close to a 1st, 2nd, and young NHLer/prospect (Podz/Hogs/??) with a signed contract in the range of 8x$6.5 - $7M?
  18. I am expecting good things from Garland, Boeser, Hogs, and Podz next season. Stable defense, good goaltending and a bounce back year from the forwards. Getr done!
  19. For sure but offers might even be two way in nature and we know how he feels about the AHL
  20. Teams may have made offers/inquiries but probably in the one year, league minimum range. If anything, NT likely isn't getting the dollars he would want in order to make the shift over to the he NHL
