  1. Again you're misunderstanding my point. The fact that Domi got cut as well, just goes to further prove my point that Sutter comments and evaluation skills were lacking. what are you even trying to argue with me about? I used monahan as one example and instead of focusing on the point I'm trying to make, you're focusing on Monahan not being available AFTER he was cut. Injury aside, he kept Shinkaruk until the last cuts despite his injury. Again what I'm getting at his Sutter ability to accurately evaluate players. A lot of fans turned on Gaunce AFTER Sutter comments, I'm trying to make a point that fans, especially the fairweather ones, should have their opinions spoiled. Go pick an argument for no reason with someone else
  2. YOu're misunderstanding I'm not talking about the actual tournament. Sutter cut him during the summer evaluation camp before the NHL season even started.
  3. Sorry to beat a dead horse but remember how Sutter said during the WJC Gaunce was a 4th liner? He cut Monahan during the summer WJC camp. Monahan was one of his first cuts. He made the Flames, contributed and now he's going to the World Champions as a junior eligible player. There's a reason Sutter is no longer in the NHL and I said it before his opinion shouldn't bear that much weight on your opinion of Gaunce. Also Gaunce is playing pretty well right now.
  4. Highlight reel assist just now. Gaunce isn't getting as much love as our other OHL prospects
  5. People giving Ehlers a hard time saying he's a by product of Drouin. The same was said about Drouin last year leading up to the draft. He was always considered good at the beginning of the year but MacKinnon made him a great. Then nearing the end of the season people started to notice he wasn't a by product at all and he had his own superstar ability.
  6. Would be very interesting if Pens or anyone for that matter, don't pick up Kesler NTC like Anaheim did to Visnovsky a few years back when they got him from Edmonton. But this should probably be discussed elsewhere. Go Gaunce!
  7. Absolute nothing wrong with Horvat staying in major junior for another year. No player ever suffered from extra time in major junior. Want a guy who's too talented to be in major junior but is? Grigorenko and Drouin are two guys that are getting an extra year in major junior than being rushed into the league. If he shows he's not ready or he's out played by guys under contract, send him back and let him dominate the league for another year.

"Oh no! this team sucks because they didnt draft Zykov with their 23rd pick when he went 37th overall" Not only did the Canucks pass on him in the first round, 10 other teams passed on him before he was selected. MTL, ANA, CBJ, CGY, DAL, CHI, FLA, COL, TBL, BUF. MTL passed on selecting him 3 times. All those other teams that passed on him arguably have better prospects and scouts than we do BUT they all passed on him also. DAL took Nich early and had no issues drafted Russians but would had a place with his fellow Russian long-term but they passed on him. But don't bring that up, just focus on the Canucks not drafting him! If you're so good at knowing which players are going to be impactful NHL players go become a full time scout, im such with your great insight you'll move up the ranks in no time.
  9. I'm not just looking at "shiny new toys" I was looking more toward the future as in 2+ years and whether Schroeder is a fit long term. Also, what you're replying to was a reply to another poster, wherein I mention it could be a better fit for us long term is Schroeder could move to the wing.
  10. Fair enough but the second half of my post points to small players that are able to play well on the wing and a small winger can still work in MG "grand picture" based on line mates (Stl has Schwartz). This mentally is probably what led them to pick highly skilled but small Shinkaruk. It's tough to see Schroeder staying with the Canucks based on the centre prospects we have in the pipeline, LaBate, Horvat, Cassels and Guance being the most notable. What I'm saying and other posters are saying is, if he stays a Canuck longterm it likely has to be on the wing.
  11. I can't speak for everyone but for myself, looking ahead a year or two, it's do you start Horvat or Schroeder as your 3rd C? In most cases it's Horvat. There is also Guance.
  12. You're idea is that Schroeder needs to be able to crash and bang to be an effective winger but that's only one type of winger that makes teams effective. There are more than one type of winger that can make teams effective. You have Patrick Kane in Chicago that has consistently shown you don't need size and you can create space for yourself. Kane is an exception? Alright, Andrew Cogliano has show to be an effective third liner in Anaheim. Tyler Ennis in Buffalo (think he recently got shifted to center) . Nathan Gerbe has really shone this season in Carolina. Matt Calvert and Cam Atkinson in Columbus. Jaden Schwartz in St. Louis. Danny Briere has had a good career as both a winger and centre. Mats Zuccarello is again, another small winger that's effective cause of his skill. I will say that small wingers do a lot better with larger players on their line. Based on how the Canucks future is being built (tons of size). If Schroeder can shift to the wing at the pro level. He could be an effective top 9 winger.
  13. I'd like to also see Schroeder adapt to the wing. The only time I've seen him on the wing was with the Moose where he struggled mightly
  14. What are you arguing here? That one poster made a "mere comment harmless comment" and mine is somehow an attack on him or something? And yes, my expectation is that you watch more than a two week tournament to comment on a players NHL readiness. I say this about ALL prospects. A two week tournament, good or bad, does not make an NHL career nor is it an accurate display of a players talent. There have been countless players that make WJC and play well and do nothing in the NHL.
  15. You really shouldnt judge NHL readiness by a two week tournament.
  16. I actually think Shinkaruk+Jensen and Fox+Guance should be pairs on different lines. With the idea that Shinkaruk-Horvat-Jensen should be a future line with the Canucks. Shinkaruk-O'Reilly/LaBate*-Jensen Fox-Gaunce-Grenier *LaBate I believe is eligible for AHL if he signs this year. He may not start on the top line at the beginning of the season but totally believe he could led the farm team as a 1C by end of the year.
  17. Would Colorado move O'Reilly? Yes but only in 3 situations. 1. They keep Stastny. 2. They are able to get a top 6 winger by trading Stastny. 3. Trade Stastny and O'Reilly for D and top 6 (doesn't mean Avs trade both to the same team) Option 1, they'd keep Mackinnon as their 3rd C and move him around the top 6 based on what Roy wants at the time, very much like what they've done this year, which is more like a top 7. McGinn-Duchene-Parenteau Tanguay-Statsny-Landeskog MacKinnon Option 2. Mackinnon becomes their 2C behind Duchene and they have the top 6 from Stastny trade, with Landeskog, P.A Parenteau and Tanguay Top 6 from trade-Duchene-Parenteau Tanguay-MacKinnon-Landeskog. Option 3 seems unlikely to me but this is the team that flipped Downie for Talbot when Downie was red hot. Anyone know why Roy isn't using Duchene and Landeskog together? I remember last season they dominated together.
  18. It's not just making trades. A lot of the teams in the West have benefited from trades but also their prospect development and shrewd coaching moves. LA moved Schenn and Jack Johnson for Carter and Richards. Traded Bernier for Frattin and Scrivens. They also went and hired Sutter. Had Pearson and Toffoli step in at times to produce. Dwight King and Nolan were huge during the playoff run for them. SJS moved Setoguchi and Coyle for Burns and Havlat. Havlat has been horrible but the emergence of Hertl and shifting Burns to forward made up for it. I believe they hired Larry Robinson as their D coach in 2012. Irwin finally healthy, Vlasic playing a bigger role. ANA signed Bruce Boudreau as HC, picked up Perrault off waivers and traded Ryan for Silfverberg and a above average prospect. Fowler returning to form. Traded Gardiner and reaquired Beauchmin. STL hire Hitchcock, Tarasenko finally came over to NA. They flipped Erik Johnson for Shattenkirk and Stewart. Also traded for Bouwmeester from CGY. Traded Perron for Paajarvi CHI traded away Bolland and Frolik, had Shaw and Saad take larger roles. Acquired Handzus. VAN hired Torts, traded Hodgson for Kassian, signed Santorelli, traded Sturm and Samuelsson for Booth. traded Tochkin for Dalpe and Welsh. Picked up Stanton from waivers. Looking over some of the transactions of top teams in the West, you can't say Gillis hasn't tried bold moves in the past. I think, it's less about making bold moves and having our prospects make an impact on the lineup, sadly I don't see any prospects other than Kassian making said impact. At least that's my thoughts on the matter.
  19. Have to agree. London has been ridiculous with their captaincy this season. What's the point of naming a captain for 4 months? Good chance whoever they name may be gone next season. Will they wait not her 4-5 months to name the next one?
  20. We already know he has more points than all our junior prospects. No rush. XD
  21. No idea why people are hating on Del Zotto. He's shown that he can generate offence both on the PP and at even strength. He's not shut down D in his own zone but neither are guys like Markov, Streit and Ehrhoff. Whoever said Torts benches Del Zotto is only half right. The year after putting up career numbers, Torts sent him to the AHL to improve his defensively game. When he did, Torts consistently used him in his top 4. Also the "he's OK on the PP" isn't really accurate. This is a guy who has 117 career pts with 53 of them on the power play. Close to half of that was during his first year. In 2 of the last 3 years his pp production has been comparable to 1st unit pp guys like Duncan Keith and Letang. Letang: 11-12 - 15 PPP (5rd ranked pp) 12-13 - 13 PPP (3rd ranked pp) Keith: 11-12 - 13 PPP (26th ranked pp) 12-13 - 10 PPP (19th ranked pp) Del Zotto: 11-12 - 14 PPP (23rd ranked pp) 12-13 - 8 ppp (23rd ranked pp) How does Del Zotto stack up PP wise to say Edler? Edler in all the years he's scored more than 22 pts, he's had more than 15 of his points come on the PP in each year, which is a bit under half his points coming from the PP. 08-09 37 pts, 21 ppp (8th ranked pp) 09-10 42 pts, 19 ppp (6th ranked pp) 10-11 33 pts, 17 ppp (1st ranked pp) 11-12 49 pts, 22 ppp (4th ranked pp) Del zotto's best year PP wise was in 09-10 where he had 22 ppp on the 13th ranked pp that year, matching Edler best of 22 ppp on a 4th ranked pp. Del zotto best offensive year was the same as Edler. 2011-12 41(14ppp) to Edlers 49(22). If we're looking at offensive and pp quarterback ability, I would make an argument that Del Zotto is better than Edler in all regards. Defensively and physically, Edler, when at his best, is the better rear guard. Del Zotto hasn't had a great year but not a lot of Rangers have. Prior to this year, he's been able to produce from the back end. Del Zotto would be a pretty savvy pick up for our back end. The arguments been made that Edler was his best when Ehrhoff was on the team and carrying the load offensively. Maybe MDT can shoulder the load offensively BUT if we don't move Edler, where would he fit into our top 6 D is the question.
  22. Can you proved any examples of past NHL tweezers, prospects or AHL for lifers who have amazing hockey IQ but couldn't make the NHL full time? I'm asking cause this point you made about agreeing with his hockey IQ had me curious. I couldn't come up with the immediate example of anyone who has amazing hockey IQ that didn't find a niche or a way into the NHL. For example, Chris Tanev when he broke into the league was someone that just screamed to me, this kid is in the NHL because of the hockey sense he exhibits on the ice. Despite the many deficiencies he had in his game at the time, no shot, not physical, etc. His hockey IQ single handed helped him into the NHL.
  23. As Miller mentioned, Horvat having or playing a heavy game refers to his compete in the dirty areas and in the circles. That line almost always started with the puck vs Finland and Horvat won almost every battle against the boards, downlow and in tight freeing up McDavid and Reinhart to do their thing
  24. The pass was definitely intentional but I question if the spin move was on purpose. I question it because of how he lands on the spin, it seems to me it was more like he was trying to stop up and jump back to avoid the hit and making contact with the Finnish player causes him to spin but it's entirely possible he planned the spin.
