  1. I don't follow basketball so I'll take your word for it. Were those picks near or top overall? You can't give an Edmonton GM credit for drafting McDavid.
  2. You missed the point. I was trying to name players that exceeded their draft expectation, at least before joining the Canucks. Maybe McCann and Demko should be taken out as McCann falling to us was a fluke and Demko was the highest rated goalie. I don't remember the last time we had three Calder finalists. So Benning was a decent scout and perhaps he should've stuck to that. Overall, the results speak for themselves.
  3. I would rate drafting a lot higher. That was one thing he was pretty good at. Boeser (23), Petterson (5), Hughes (7), Gaudette (149), McCann (24), Hoglander (40), Demko (36), Forsling (126) The only terrible pick was Olli, especially with who the next selection was. He was terrible at asset management, and the Canucks' player development program leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of those players exceeded expectation either prior to coming to the Canucks or shortly thereafter. Once they started to play for the Canucks, a lot of them stagnated. How do you have three consecutive Calder Trophy finalists (one winner) and end up with a team this poor?
  4. Chara doesn't belong in the list for two reasons. One is that he isn't dirty or just a general scum unlike the others. Second is that he would not have his clocks cleaned by those guys. Chara is an absolute beast and has incredible reach. He's probably fought/beaten every guy on that list. Kane is an absolute idiot. Why give Vegas something to rally them in the next game when you are beating them hands down? I expect Vegas will come out firing on all cylinders in Game 3, to start at least. Still, the series will go to Oilers barring any less than even mediocre goaltending from Skinner.
  5. Funny thing is that Tocchet was a guest during the intermission on one of the american channels. Paul bissonnette asked Tocchet a similar question about resting star players in the first intermission. Tocchet said that he would not rest any players, keep the pressure on and "worry about tomorrow tomorrow." That was only the first intermission but presumably he would do the same after the second.
  6. No, you're right. The atmosphere was fantastic this season. I must've been out of my mind on ketamine. Bo's comments came completely out of nowhere.
  7. He is likely going to return to form next season and its annoying fans are piling on him. It's not uncommon for a player to underperform for a short period of time after signing a big contract because they try to do too much or after a trade. (Miller; Draisaitl) I don't see what the big deal is about his comments. He is factually correct. The atmosphere in Vancouver was horrendous when he left and the fans were't much better but I think credit is owed for standing up for Boudreau. Bo doesn't wear his hear on his sleeves like Miller so for him to say something like that, it really says something about how the other players feel about Vancouver. I would not be surprised if Pettersson doesn't re-sign. I would't if I was in his shoes.
  8. Probably not the best time to bring this up but let's give some credit where credit is due. Calder trophy finalist Calder trophy winner Calder trophy finalist That was a pretty good streak.
  9. I don't doubt that it was grossly negligent. And the fine may be too lenient, but it should be a higher fine not draft picks. The incidents that has been compared have an element of cheating involved (stealing signs, breaching drafting rules) and they need sports-related consequences. Not investigating a sexual assault properly is not in the same category. It is far more serious but a non-hockey incident. Their motivation was to focus on the championship, and perhaps that should be taken away. Remove the entire team off the cup as that was what they were focusing on rather than reporting a crime. But taking draft picks away even as an additional punishment, creates the wrong impression. It makes it look like this was a hockey incident rather than a criminal offence. I only said that IF I was a player and spend most of my life playing hockey and that was my entire world, perhaps I would have thought that if someone was raped, they would report it. The players in the locker room who heard these rumours may have thought the same thing. I frankly don't know but I have enough faith in people to believe that if they knew the seriousness of it, most would report it. What puzzles me is the players who admit that they did know and are saying every player did, are not providing an explanation for why they themselves did not report it? It was a complete failure by Chicago but the failure was focusing on hockey over reporting a crime.
  10. You know people are too focused on hockey when they think losing draft pick is a more serious and more appropriate than a fine for handling a sexual assault complaint improperly. Can you imagine the optics of that? What we are going to do is try to make sure you stay at the bottom of the standings a little longer so nothing really changes for you since you are at the bottom of the standings now anyways. I'm surprised people even think it is appropriate. You may as well punish them by ordering them to hire mike milbury as their GM. The only think you can do is fine the team and the people involved and kick the people involved out of hockey. I initially thought that players not knowing was complete BS. But in hindsight, they may have known that this creep was hitting on one of their players and trying to get in his pants but I hope they did not know the seriousness of what happened. To play devil's advocate, without knowing how victims react, if I was in that dressing room, I would have naively thought that if a player was raped, they would go to the police. Ultimately, someone did go to the police and that is how all this was uncovered. I'm still surprised the state prosecutor isn't laying charges. I don't think there is statute of limitations on sexual assault in Illinois.
  11. Some oilers fans wished they had Virtanen on their team after he last game. Not instead of one of their top picks obviously, but it's still a good sign when the opponents like your players.
  12. Like I said before, the patriots have to share that money, so the NFL is the winner. Seems like genius move by the commissioner to make a lengthy suspension, resulting in national coverage and more money for his sport. The Colts and Seattle get a share of that money, so they are just as happy as the Pats. Basically Pats get a percent of the revenue generated but have to bear the 1 million loss themselves. Unless they had trouble filling their stadiums in the past, this doesn't benefit them as much as people think. Keep in mind that I don't know a lot about football but I learned about revenue sharing from the Daily Show.
  13. Basically, you're suggesting the Pats felt bad for their opponents and wanted to give them an advantage by deflating their footballs? Whether or not there was an advantage gained is irrelevant, what people are concerned with is the cheating and lying. It is impossible to know the outcome otherwise had the cheating not occurred. Eg) Lance Armstrong may still have won the tour de france seven times had he not taken steroids, but that fact is irrelevant. Plus, it's extremely naive to assume that the only time they tampered with footballs was the time they got caught. I'm not a huge football fan but I'd respect Brady a lot more if he admitted he made a mistake and apologized.
  14. Maybe you have a point. There are athletes whose legacy are untarnished, but they are few and far between. Makes me respect guys like Michael Jordan a lot. Tough to be a pro athlete and be universally respected as much as he is, IMO.
  15. And what do they get? More fans (not likely). More games watched (revenue is shared and they are the champs). More people in stadium (again revenue is shared). I don't know what the additional publicity would get them. It's definitely great for the NFL though, so they may get a part of that additional revenue from the publicity. It's terrible publicity. They are being nationally and internationally shamed. Don't think anyone associated with the organization is proud of that. You are not appreciating the base human desire to want to be liked by your peers.
