Wonder what the buyers market will look like for us at the TDL.

@Alflives That post could be interpreted in two ways.
What I think he originally meant was for the buyers market for pieces like Kuzmenko, Horvat, and/or Schenn.
There's also potentially a tongue-in-cheek meaning to it as well. Since management can't make competent moves for this team's future, we might be buying pieces to make a push for the playoffs, despite our current position...

It was option B @Dazzle

So sad that posters who have not done anything other than being hyper critical of how our club is built get banned. Also sad that many poster who are rude to others, who happen to have different views on how our club should be built, are allowed to post terrible comments without repercussions. Alf read one poster call smother “pathetic” today, simply because the view of the club was different. Maybe AV ‘s case highlites how we need to stop with the whole concept of “trolling” as a means to expel people? Because ther3 will always be posters who are triggered (I’m one for sure) by Other posters’ views.
-
@Alflives Trolling is a fairly subjective term, but it is usually labelled for people who like to get a rise out of people's reactions. There's people who only see the negative on the team and refuse to weigh the other parts of the team (it's not all negative), but some people call this an 'alternative' viewpoint.

@JM_Not to mention they had one fall right into their lap this past draft and decided to trade down anyway.
-
@JM_ lol agreed more with the part about them not managing cap.
Nurse at $9.25m, Koskinen underperforming at $4.5m, Kassian at $3.2m, are all overpaid or slated to be, and even guys like Barrie/ Ceci don't really look to be carrying their weight.$21m for top 2 ISN'T too crazy (Tampa's top two earn $19m, Chicago's Toews/ Kane also earn $21m, Ovie/ Backstrom are almost $19m, same with Sid and Geno almost at $19m). If they don't learn to build around them with value though, that would probably lead to them leaving.

@Alain VigneaultTrades happen because of opportunity. Someone jumps up into the roster unexpectedly, and a team gets an asset for a redundant piece (and save cap).
Saying that the trade "was only possible" is downplaying the significance of what Benning did. He capitalized on the situation and made a lot of Benning whiners here eat crow. Or in some cases, they disappear, until Benning does something wrong.
-
What did Benning do exactly? His due-diligence to check the market like as if other GMs weren't doing the same thing? Is that how low the bar is for this general manager that he gets praised for doing basic GM things? He nearly added Barrie for north of 5M which would have been such an odd move.
Yes, it was a good trade and it was shrewd to acquire for the price he did but let's not act like this was a deal he concocted. Schmidt would have been a Panther if VGK had their way but we can be fortunate that an NTC list blocked that move. Vancouver had the space, the need, and they were willing to eat 5 years at 5.95M so they got it done. That's all that happened.
-
Lookfing forward to what Benning and Company does with our D over the next couple years
Its obviously the priority now.

Problem is that while Stecher isn’t a top 4 guy and is best suited for third pairing duty, he has shown the ability to ‘fill-in’ if somebody in our top 4 guy is out of the lineup for a few games or stretches of games. He is the only guy at present that can do that. I’m obviously not referring to guys like Edler (who likely will be hurt at times during the season), Myers or Hughes. Guys like Benn can barely handle 3rd pairing duty as it is (losing his spot to journeyman like Fanta this past season).
