  1. This decision, right or wrong, has made the NFL's governing body, an invalid power and will affect all sports bodies. Suspensions in all sports will now be scrutinized in courts of law, if even the smallest glimmer of hope can be seen and, in the eyes of players, will be won. Just another annoying thing to watch in pro sports. The law should've kept it's nose out of it.
  2. Sad to see Lawrie traded. Played his heart out for the Jays and brought passion. Too bad he couldn t stay healthy. Sad way to see him go though. Good luck in Oakland.
  3. Kesler needs to stay. His play is all heart. I would even say, I prefer him over Henrik as captain.
  4. The Canadian part of your wish aside, I really like Alex Tuch. He s big, tough and "brings the rain" along the boards. He s fast and has a hard shot. The only knock I have on him is his age. He is a project and will take a few years to develop. The big upside is that he may not be finished growing and may size up even more. Another upside is that dropping a spot or two may get us something in a deal.
  5. If they could secure Benning as GM, it would be a solid move for the near future of this team. As bitter as the taste of our Stanley Cup collapse still is in our mouths, there is no denying the solid style of hockey the Bruins play. As Benning is a huge part of their success, I would love to see a similar team here. Hard nosed, gritty hockey has always been my favorite style and, when applyed on a consistent basis, is still the most effective style. However, I believe that if he was hired, it would spell the end of an era in Vancouver and a new crop of players that play the style Benning likes would be brought in.
  6. I see a lot of fans closing the book on this guy.I believe he does have a future here, but as a winger, not a center. His skills would be much more effective coming from the outside where he can use his speed to get around defenders. He has incredible hockey smarts and has a knack for finding the right play. At center, however, I think he is so outmatched size wise that he can t use his speed effectively enough to exploit defenses the way I know he can. I think he and Burrows on opposing wings would be a nightmare for any team. Kesler centering them would, in my mind, develop into a juggernaught offensively.
  7. I can t wait for this kid to develop to NHL caliber. I think no ones going to remember what we gave up. Instead we re going to be thrilled with what we got.
  8. I agree. The Sedin signing does put some urgency on winning now. However, looking at what we d be giving up; I d much rather put a package together for Kane. The difference in production is minimal. But Kane would also give us a start to a rebuild when the Sedins do retire. I Know the price would be steep, but it seems the two teams do have mutul needs that could be filled by the other. I do have an idea, but that s for another forum.
  9. Good. Give the NHL bigwigs the business too. Hartley and the waste of skin team he leads got what they asked for. I don t blame him for being angry and goin at them in the halls. Hartley, of course, hid behind his players like a coward. My only hope is that Torts doesn t fold to league pressure. It seems no one in the league respects the Canucks organization. Too far out of the way to give a sh*t about I guess. As I see it, if the league won t offer it, it s up to the team to go out and demand it.
  10. I would love to see Kane come home but I just don t see it being realistic. Winnipeg s gonna be looking for big returns. They will want a proven top six forward. They will want at least one quality pick and a top prospect. As I look at the Canucks roster, I don t see a top six forward I would be willing to part with. The realistic wants from Vancouver would be Burrows or Kesler. Kesler has been reborn with the Sedins and is playing like Kesler of old. Burrows, while having a rough time right now, will come around and is heart and soul Canuck. I would be angry if either one of these is traded. Of the posibilities, only Booth and Edler come to mind. Unfortunately, neither player has come out gunnin. Booth is coming back from a reconditioning stint and is yet to fulfill expectations and Edler has all but disappeared off the scoreboard. As the Jets would be looking for immediate offense, these two would not fit at all. They would be chance pick ups; a hope that they can regain their past success and that s not gonna happen with what s coming the other way. Of our prospects only Cannata and Schroeder come to mind as expendable in my opinion and may be the only two that Winnipeg would look at in a deal. Horvat, Jensen and Gaunce are untouchable, in my opinion, and I don t see any other player that Winipeg would realisticly look at. As for draft picks, we have become an annual low 1st round picker, which only adds to the negative side of a possible deal. Add to all of this that MG isn t really feeling the pressure to shake up the team just yet, and it just makes me doubtful that anything concerning Kane would happen here.
  11. It s my opinion that we won t see many of our prospects in the upcoming season. I, personally don t see anything that would indicate any of them are ready. Gaunce and Horvat, although big and skilled, need at least one season in the AHL to prepare them for the faster paced pro game. They are good at the Junior level, there s no denying, but it s a far cry from the pro game. I think it would be a mistake to rush them in an attempt to make us younger. Give them time to grow and develop. Patience now will pay off in spades later. I see a lot of Canuck fans fearing the transition from the success we ve enjoyed over the past 5 yrs to a couple seasons of mediocrity while the team starts to integrate the next generation of stars. We have expectations now and i feel those expectations have caused a lot of fans to treat this team unfairly. I think MG has this plan in mind with a lot of the offseason signings. He never went after any big trades (that i know of), instead, opting for low line role and depth players. Yes, we will see new faces in the line up, but i don t believe any of them will be long term stays. Maybe a prospect like Jensen may get a few games to see what he can do, but i don t believe he s ready. If anyone gets to stay, it s gonna be Corrado, but seeing as how he played some of last season and the playoffs last season, i don t know that he can be considered a prospect anymore.
  12. Personally, I'd like to see him moved to a wing. I feel his size and speed could benefit him and the team more.
