No $&!#, but good GM's are able to draft with an eye on the future. Gillis failed at that big time.
  2. Benning Extended (Official)

I actually can't tell if you're trolling anymore. It's pretty well known that Gillis didn't build the 2011 team. He added smaller pieces to the team he inherited. Yes he got close to a cup but he also destroyed the future in the process.

You mean players like Burrows and Hansen? The funny thing is, I'm sure if every decent player on the roster was traded for picks and prospects you'd be whining even more about how the team is the worst in the league. You can't just trade away all your NHL players and still have an NHL caliber team.

No other GM in Canucks history has inherited a team with such awful depth. No other GM in Canucks history has added this amount of high quality prospects to the franchise.
  5. TSN Misquoted Jacob Markstrom

    Could be libel
  6. How Many 20 Goal Scorers?

Last season, the Canucks only had one player to score 20 goals. That was Bo Horvat who scored exactly 20 to go along with his 32 assists. This year Vancouver may potentially have five 20 goal scorers. Boeser is currently at 26 goals with 28 games left, I'd love to see him hit 40 but he'll be hard pressed to do so. Vanek has 15 goals in 54 games, if he doesn't get traded at the deadline I'd be surprised if he didn't hit 20. Horvat (36 gp) and Baertschi (43 gp) are both at 12 goals right now, despite missing quite a few games to injuries. If they both play all remaining 28 games I think they should be able to each break the goal mark. Horvat may be more of a sure thing than Baertschi. The only player I don't think will hit 20 goals who could feasibly do it is Daniel Sedin. He currently has 13 goals in 53 games and I see him finishing the season in the 16-19 range. Would love to see Daniel break 20 in what could be his final season though. Regardless of what happens, we are definitely better off this year than last year.
  7. [Signing] Canucks sign Darren Archibald

Excited for Archie. He should come out hard in his first game. Wonder who goes out for him?
  8. Adam Gaudette | C

    You spelled category wrong.
  9. Adam Gaudette | C

Well no... There definitely is. Sorry you're just wrong there. Before McDavid played a single game in the NHL I could tell you with confidence that he was a better player than, say, Tom Sestito. There is definitely a way to determine the skill end effectiveness of players regardless of the league they play in. I think what you meant was that there is no way for YOU to determine that, seeing as you don't have the knowledge or resources to do so. (edit: I'm not saying I have the knowledge to determine that either, which is why I asked the question)
  10. Adam Gaudette | C

Anyone think Gaudette is a better all around player than Gaunce at this point? How about Dowd?
  11. Is Brock a Generational Talent?

At his current pace he'd currently finish only about 6 off of Ovechkin's rookie goal totals. That's not exactly "very far", just sayin... Also he's currently outscoring McDavid while playing in the same division. But I wouldn't call him generational yet either. We'll see in 5 years. A lot of it will depend on how well he is able to adapt his game when necessary, and how much he can improve on his current form in the coming years. He has the advantage of not carrying the "generational" label from before he was drafted. But we make look back after his career is over and see him in the same light as some of the generational players you mentioned.
  12. [PGT] Los Angeles Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks

Meh, good game. Could've gone ether way against one of the best teams in the division despite our depleted line-up. All we can really ask is that the team stays competitive and they did just that. Plus we're two points closer to a better chance at Dahlin.
  13. Vanek's Value (Circa Jan. 2, 2018) Discussion

I don't care what his value is, re-sign him. Give the 2 year contract he'll want. The value of having him here greatly outweighs the value of a second round pick imo. I don't think a lot of people are realizing the influence Vanek is having on Boeser. He's the perfect mentor. Boeser clearly loves playing with the guy and has spoken very highly of him and his guidance. Their careers are actually very similar. Despite being from Austria, Vanek came to play in the USHL and absolutely dominated just like Boeser did. He then played at the University of Minnesota (Boeser's home state) for two seasons and put up eerily similar numbers to Boeser's at North Dakota.
  14. [PGT] Chicago Blackhawks vs. Vancouver Canucks

God I wish we could drop Eriksson and sign Vanek for 2-3 years.
