jim hughson is a prime example of being a legend and not "sticking around too long"
-
@canucklehead44 jim could easily still have the voice for it, for a few more years, but actually retiring at a retiring age is mucho respect. he doesnt need the money, hes done olympics, stanley cup finals and some world series and going out as an all time great
@johngould21 and rick jeanneret is almost 80. shoulda hung em up a decade ago :x

Astrophysics. His dad was an electrical engineer. He and his dad built his guitar when he was 16. He uses sixpence for guitar picks because he feels it gives him more control when playing.
He has done thesis on cosmic dust. He has an asteroid 52665 Brianmay named after him.
He says he'd rather be remembered for his animal rights work, than his music or science.

Having read more into it (the prospect making a statement and asking teams not to pick him as well as issuing a statement of apology to the family, then Bergevin picking him anyways) I think the prospect's follow-up action does show good character and props to the Habs for giving him a chance.
Someone's career and future shouldn't be taken from them just because he did one thing wrong, esp. when he acknowledged he was at fault for doing that and rectified it. In this triggered society, second chances need to be a thing. -
actions have consequences. you can't just get off free because you said "sorry" what he did to that girl is gonna damage her for life, and if you say otherwise is victim blaming and part of the problem. that's just how it is, and that's the bigger problem with hockey culture with "boys will be boys" mentality that's under the microscope
-
Imagine being that desperate for talent. Lots of other players available and the Habs go with the one that will deservedly generate an enormous controversy.
I hope he gets the help he needs to reform his behaviour, but I certainly don't think that he deserves the privilege of being drafted into the NHL until he goes through that process.

daddy Jim waiting until the draft to start to deal Schmidt to get a first round back
