  1. That is a possibility, true!.......I sure hope not!........but that could happen.........I just threw up!
  2. This not directed at you Jim Just some more random thoughts But here is my problem with the evaluation of our Defensemen in general With a healthy Bo and Baer, we are a middle of the pack team.....there abouts Many claim we do not have a #1 Dman and that Tanev is just a #3 In addition Edler is a bum, Gudbranson is only a #6, and Biega is a #7/8 So if Tanev is a #3..... then MDZ, Stecher, and Pouliot must be #4's or #5's My point being that some of CDC don't seem to understand a team is a collective and are only as strong as its weakest link So, if this is true in any part, don't you think that many of the problems our Dmen are having are situational and cause by the collective Aka.......better quality shots, no back check, weak early goals, etc My thoughts on Hutton are that he has been given heavy minutes during times of injury and wasn't bad considering his true value (#4/5) And that Green would not have put him in that position, if he didn't have some ability to perform those responsibilities....albeit in a temp. position So my fears are that Hutton still being young and having the capabilities of performing those jobs, and being a honest 4/5, would be traded for a 3rd or 4th round pick, when defensemen are at such a premium, and he is still young enough to improve.....I also question, if our offense doesn't exclude dmen from collecting points, as often as other dmen do? We cycle more than other teams......so it stands to reason our forwards touch the puck in the O-zone more often than do the dmen........(just a thought????) Add the addition that in fact our dmen are less offensive as a whole....I am just not sure our Dmen are as bad and that it may be more a situational problem. So in summary (sorry) maybe Hutton value should be higher, and probably if traded, be traded with someone else, to get a higher return? (It is not worth trading him for less)
  3. "Might be the most natural goalscorer I've played with"

Well, I just hate to break it to you but........Pettersson will lead the league in assists for the next 10+ years
  4. Hey Jim Not slagging your comments, but... With Gaudette, McEwen, Gadjovich, Lockwood just around the corner, do you think we have to replace Dorsett? Does it fit our rebuild? I would like to keep a hold of Hutton a little longer......he has potential, and if we are going to move him, maybe we do as part of a bigger deal? Last part is just a question Wasn't Dorsett also picked up for a late 3rd...I think 85th........are you saying you think Hutton is only worth that? I know what you are saying, but just my random thinking going on here! Sorry
  5. PS.............you could be 100 % right, and he may never be traded.....................but you could be wrong
  6. PhillipBlunt 15,199 Analytical yet, Truculent Defenseman Members 15,199 18,901 posts Location: Somewhere in East Vancouver Report post Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) Enough already! Every time Alexander Edler is mentioned in a trade proposal, the same statement comes up: He won't waive. Basically Edler is outright refusing to accept a trade from the Canucks. This just isn't the case anymore. Allow me to explain. On January 18 2013, Edler was given a six year contract at $5 M per year by Mike "I never met a clause I didn't like" Gillis. However that summer, Gillis attempted to move Edler, to which Edler made the following comment: "You don't sign a six year deal with an NTC, so you can leave town shortly thereafter." Rightfully so, Alex, rightfully so. This very comment has been the impetus for the idea that Edler is an immoveable force, from a trade point of view. However.....in June/July of 2014, in an interview with Swedish media outlet Expressen, Edler made the following statement: "There's an awful lot of rumours. It's not something I think about. As long as Vancouver wants me, rumours mean nothing." "In the end, I get to decide (for myself), but if the team wants a trade....well, then you get to decide whether you want to play for a team that does not want you." So there you have it. Alex Edler isn't exactly the #*^&-blocker he's been made out to be, regarding a potential trade out of Vancouver. As well, if Benning decided that trading Edler was the best course of action (which is left to be determined at this point) Edler is clearly not going to cling to his NTC and play out his contract in an environment that may have moved on from him. Y'all got that now?! Coastal................Here is PhillipBlunts comments Back in May 11, 2016 This was also quote in HockeyBuzz July, 14, 2014, quoting the same Swedish newspaper I certainly leaves the question open.........you got to beat a different drum man! Ignore the thousand other NTC that have been moved over the years..........you just stick to your guns! And thanks for permission to post Edler quotes on here............I guess this means we won't be hearing from you again? Regards Jan
  7. That is kind of the reason I think it is a bad contract.......to move it we either have to eat % or take nothing for him Contenders are not going to over pay for a guy having a bad year on a chance he might change it up when they get him...... The chance of over payment is too big for an "IF"
  8. With the injury bug hitting us hard, and how difficult it is to gain additional points compared to our competitors won/losses........December may be a deciding month as to what Benning does at the trade deadline. With saying that, and looking at our veterans. What are they worth and what is the possibility of each one Being traded? For the purposes of this post, a veteran is a NHL player over 26 years of age. Henrik Sedin 37..........................Hank and Danny have shown to still have life as 3rd line players, and may re-sign for around 3.5 Million for 1 year Daniel Sedin 37..........................Hank and Danny have shown to still have life as 3rd line players, and may re-sign for around 3.5 Million for 1 year Chris Tanev 27...........................The Canucks should be careful with Chris, he takes a lot of knocks out there.............he stays Alex Edler 31.............................Log Jam at LD, and he is showing that he is aging........time to go.......value: Late 1st or 2nd and a A- prospect Brandon Sutter 28......................You really notice when he is gone, Benning loves him............he stays Loui Eriksson 32.........................He's showing a lot more this year, and his contract is prohibitive..........he stays Thomas Vanek 33.....................Good knack for scoring, and would help any team out on their way to the playoffs.........value: late 2nd Michael Del Zotto 27..................Michael has made Edler expendable..........he stays (this year) Jacob Markstrom 27...................Who is better Jacob or Anders, neither one has shown to be better than the other.........he stays Anders Nilsson 27......................He has shown he is a decent goaltender, and would be a good back up to a contender........he stays 50/50 Sam Gagner 28..........................He stays because of a bad contract or is discounted at 50%.............no value.........he stays Alex Biega 29.............................The pitbull......stays or does he go?......you have to admit, what a great guy to have in the wings for the PO's.......what team wouldn't want him??????? Erik Gudbranson 25...................Although not a top 3/4 defenceman.........you sure notice when he is gone.........................does Benning resign him ???????? Sven Baertschi 25......................there sure is a lot of LW's in the system........does Vancouver intend to sign E. Kane this summer ???????? I just honestly can't see where the loss of 2 or 3 veterans, could not be replaced through free agency if, we don't do not just replace them through promotion.............................. My opinion is that Gaudette, and Demko have a very good chance of making the big club, with an outside chance of Pettersson and Juolevi pushing for a spot.................... I would not argue that Pettersson and Juolevi could use a little seasoning on the Comets, but their skill may dictate room is needed for them on the Canucks........ I just get this gut feeling that one of Markstrom or Nilsson gets traded, this TDL to up grade a contender..........you can not judge them now, due to team injuries Earlier, they were both lights out......personally I like Nilsson more, but he has a lighter contract, so he is probably the one that goes......value: a 3rd I really have more questions than answers...........
  9. [PGT] Vancouver Canucks vs. Winnipeg Jets

Now I argue with Old New once in a while................but you can't ignore the amount of pluses he has or the % of pluses to posts....not the highest, but a hell of a lot higher than you or I.... Regrettably!.........LOL
  10. [PGT] Vancouver Canucks vs. Winnipeg Jets

50% right Jack....... The young guys are still in junior or Europe The almost youngest guys are either inured or playing their guts out The old guys are trying...............ok, passengers and the AHL guys are confirmed AHL guys But we played one of the best teams in the NHL......Big, fast, and young.......can't really blame an injury decimated team Remember, when we were healthy, we were competitive............ This only underlines we are not completed our rebuild, which should be finished in 2 or 3 years Hopefully, Benning or Aqualini doesn't over-react and trade our youth or picks Just wait it out, and hopefully we recover when everyone's healthy We need to draft some Offensive Dmen..............no $&!#! We are where Winnipeg was 2 or 3 years ago, it will take some time.......but remember.......2 out of the 3 1st line players are injured......no $&!#!
  11. Just a couple thoughts about a few popular opinions...

Hammer I am pretty close to your view...slight twist I feel that we are very close to having our rebuild completed, and with the current roster, with the money becoming free due to retirement and with UFA's departing?, a few TDL deals, and the glut of prospects now in the pipeline, we should be in a very good place to make a splash in the UFA market and move up the ladder of cup potential teams Maybe not all in one year, but certainly over a 2 or 3 year period. This is why and where our opinions differ slightly, as I hope we stay down in the bottom 3rd for this last season, as it suits our needs better.......having a very strong draft with an abundance of defencemen available to pick, I would hope that Benning uses it to complete his rebuild.........this year I mention in my recent proposals and posts, that I would like to see some veterans like Edler/Vanek and Baertschi moved to acquire those picks......................... I am not 100% sold on trading Baertschi, but I feel he has reached his ceiling, is a decent player, but has a lot of players coming up behind him, as well as a possible attempt to go after E. Kane.In saying all that, he is a very dependable player, who has good chemistry with BO.......but his return either alone or in a package would bring in a fine return Again...because of the oddity of this draft being so Dmen rich, I would focus on Dmen with all our early picks, unless someone extra ordinary fell into our lap, and by that I mean at our second pick....as our first pick should be dedicated to a RHOD As I hope, and I underline hope! We go into the draft with the returns of our TDL deals and have a 1st and/or a couple of seconds to add to our own................... For me, this should be our last year we should have to do this, and I agree with all that point out that these picks will not mature for 2 to 3 years......but again, we will have cap to address some of our short term voids I feel very positive about our future, and feel it is unfortunate that we have again been hit with the injury bug, but let's take this and make it into a positive. One more big draft will do it.........but I yield to Jimbo and will await his moves or lack of, with acceptance, either way
  12. Just a couple thoughts about a few popular opinions...

So on a good day, we are 1 player apart, and probably not even that............. No with the rash of injuries I also think the same...2 or 3 guys traded at TDL..... I hope one is Edler, really hope, as I don't want to loose Hutton..........a Dman used to take until they were 26 to 28 years old...saying that I do agree a Dman at the TDL Again, Baertschi could go.....depends on what Benning thinks of his chances with Kane......we will know at the TDL Been a long day.......but I also think that the injuries will take there toll and we will miss the playoffs
  13. Just a couple thoughts about a few popular opinions...

The reason I used "IF's", I don't have that crystal ball......so I say if............... Listen, I am totally on board with Bennings moves, and his direction, and "IF" we were good enough to with stand our injury plague and get into the playoffs, then so be it... I like good hockey and the Canucks have played some great games this year, and will play more, when their injuries heal......... I would actually like to have an end to this up and down, yo yo stuff that is happening this year, but we are in transition....I get it! I would also like to be in a position to trade a few assets or picks away at some point.....not this year, but eventually...... Maybe that is how we get our ROHD........ I do not know any more than you or anyone else does.........I just like coming on here and discussing proposals....... I just went over to HF Boards, and don't want any part of that! But I don't want to come here and not be able to express my thoughts..... It is the comments that have nothing to do with a counter point that bothers me.........."Tunnel Vision" is one of those....... We signed MDZ, Burm, Vanek, Gagner and Nilsson this year........none are 1st or 2nd line players......maybe MDZ is but on a 3 or 4 And they were not hard to sign.........IMO all on good contracts......this implies to me that we could do it again if needed........... So, since none of the guys I have suggested over the past year are starters.....I don't see the problem with moving players Maybe not the ones we just signed, but veteran players for picks and prospects...... Hey don't get me wrong, I like the Pouliot for Subban trade but it could have turned out just as easily not working out It seems that there are a few people here that will read a post and focus on one sentence like it is the only thing said...... I am pretty much done with trying to explain my objection..........to be honest I like a lot of your posts......so lets just derail this one
  14. Just a couple thoughts about a few popular opinions...

That is my point Edgar I honestly do not think anyone wants for us to repeatedly be at the bottom of the standings, like the Coilers as they are only one example and one that stayed at the very bottom for a very long long time.....many other went to the bottom got their elite player and then rebuilt quickly afterwards......Ptts, Tampa, Chicago, all did it exactly like that, even the Leafs, once getting their elite talent, got the hell out of there.....and I don't think the Coilers intended on doing that, they just had very bad management, scouting and coaching. Neither of us want what they did, just see the way to become a contender a little different in our approach..... Benning has done a great job of drafting, and even Virtanen has shown more promise this year What I do not want to happen is what we did back in the 80's, where we were not go enough to make the playoffs and to good for the better picks Joe always says "in Benning we trust" and I am pretty much on board with that, but again If I had a choice (which I do not), I would move more veterans at the TDL Even Old News, says, that he thinks that 2 players may go, and lists Edler/Hutton/Vanek as candidates (with 2 of them possibly going) I choose to agree in part, but think we could move possibly 3 players My wish is Edler, Vanek and Baertschi, but would be happy with only 2 of them moved myself, but in saying that I have also dabbled with the possibility of moving a goalie too............. We have a lot of mid-range talent on the Canucks, and more talented players on the way.......I suspect that Gaudette will be a great addition, sooner than later When I read Alf's or other Posters, I don't take it quite as literal as some do, and look at it more as dreaming for the very best results, but honestly am not think anyone really believes it will happen.......I post the same way......to me it is just fun, and not to be taken so seriously On dropping in the standings to get a player that we need, when we are not top shelf.........take a look around.......there is probably half the league that are about the same calibre and to move past them or to improve more than them, should be a goal........I see at our present position and talent level, that sliding back would be the smartest play, and as the injuries keep piling up, it seems to be a mute point anyways...... My draft opinion is that "IF" we were to end up with the 5th pick again, Benning will probably try and move back a few positions, at present as there are a few RHOD at the 10 to 12 spot, but it is too early to say where they end up on Bennings list, so I would imagine that is a last minute call.... All is good in my world, and am just putting in time! Peace!
  15. Just a couple thoughts about a few popular opinions...

Old News/Edgar M Why attack "Tankers" ? We are Canuck fans and not as radical as you may think For instance, I love posting trades, and I can honestly admit, that most of them don't stick to the wall, but they are meant to entice, conversation......... I love it when, someone says that is crap, or they don't think a trade would happen. I love it way more, when someone answers with fact or logic, as I learn I enjoy the knowledge on these boards, and respect a most of the posters But there is not one poster that has the ability to know what Benning will do, unless of course, he is actually Jim Benning and Co I think most "Tankers" know, there will not be a multi-players trade, where 6 or 7 players are moved (in Total) Nor do we expect Benning to trade 5 or 6 players at the TDL........... But! You can not tell me, that you and the "Non Tankers" thought that Burrows and Hansen would be traded, especially for their returns I can tell you I didn't, and I was very happy with Benning, but I always have been. He basically answered my request......... Trade some Veterans for prospects and/or picks that will improve our future....he did that, and again I was happy.......... Benning then in the off season, went out and signed some more veterans...........good on him! He gave us some depth that was very much needed But it was easily done! And at a decent price. He basically replaced Burrows and Hansen, and then some, but that doesn't mean he should stop his flipping of veterans You have suggested Edler, or Hutton and Vanek as possible TDL moves.............well who knows if it will be any of those? We have done well without Sutter...does that mean we should move him? Probably not, but who knows...........as with many other possibilities. Tankers just want the improved chance of getting that elusive elite player.......in this case, a RHOD, and statistically the odds improve closer to the top of the draft I think?, that most "Tankers" feel we have just about achieved our rebuild, with a solid combination of prospects and veterans In saying all that, "IF" we end up picking between 8 and 16 OA, and get a good solid prospect, that is a RHOD.........I am good with that, but that is just me But I am also so good with a couple extra picks (realistically a couple 2nds) where we pick a couple more Defensemen. That is our need! Most of all, I am annoyed that you call us tankers, because we did not give ourselves that name.......we just use it, to simplify, and be transparent, but it is rather insulting! In the context that you use it! Basically calling us idiots! (please refer to my post before responding)
