  1. Post your opening night Vancouver Canucks Roster

If Willie can get the team to play to their potential we are as good as any top team in the pacific division. Some of the younger guys on the team are not as proven as such look less sexy on paper compared to say an LA team. Absolute like the idea of pairing Kassian with Matthias. The potential is off the chart - two big body with skill that can play a heavy game (think LA's Pearson-Toffoli combo but bigger). Roll 4 lines that play both in the offensive & defensive zone. Not big on naming lines 1 - 4, as each player plays an important role in a team success. IMHO a balanced team based on current available options with a blend of vets & youth, speed & skill looks like this: Sedin line: D.Sedin - H.Sedin - N.Jensen: a blend of youth, experience, size, speed & skill Bonino line: A.Burrows - N.Bonino - R.Vrbata: skill & speed. A pesky Burrows. Vrbata paired with Sedins on PP Kassian Line: S.Matthias - L.Vey - Z.Kassian : Vey is ready. flanked by two heavy bodies with skill & speed. Higgins Line: C.Higgins - B.Richardson - J.Hansen : speed & grit & skill Extra: D. Dorsett Forward Composition: 3 snipers, 4 playmakers, 9 2-way forwards, D.Hamhius - B.Sanguinettl: Definisive d paired with a right handed offensive PMD A.Edler - C.Tanev: Calm RHD paired with an offensive LHD (pair primarily with the Sedins. thus the puck movers) L.Sbisa - K.Bieksa: physical LHD & RHD with a PMD in Bieksa R.Stanton - Y.Weber: LHD & RHD spare D Composition has good skaters with speed on each pairing to allow for a quick transition game thus less time in the defensive zone, jump up in the offensive zone serving as the 4th option (more options for the play maker). B.Sanguinettl has a high hockey IQ and untapped potential (reminds me off a right handed version Erhoff when he first arrived in Vancouver)
  2. Offseason: Available Free Agents!

A much more competitive roster that fits Lindens & Bennings Vision of incorporating youth, size, grit, skill, vet presence and balance (4 lines that can play both skill & grind style) would look more like this after these additions. 1. Horvat, Jensen, Kassian, Matthias, Tanev, Lack, Markstrom 2. Add a top 6 Vet with skill, grit, leadership. Iginla fits the bill. Sign him to a cap friendly bonus heavy contract 3. Add a Young Physical Stay at home Dman with potential. Matt Greene has heart of a warrior 4. Add a Vet Dman with a big right shot to stabilize the D core. Salo (allow him to retire a Canuck & help the PP) 5. Add a physical bottom 6 forward with leadership. Thornton 6. Retain current core that underachieved: Sedins, Kesler, Burrows,Hamhius, Bieksa (OD), Garrison (good chemistry with Juice i.e world championship) and Edler( will regain form with a physical stay at home D partner) 7. Unfortunately buyout Booth 8. Move youth in & out from Utica: Fox, Lain, Corrado, Hunter S, Darren A... 9. Sign Depth NHL experience forwards to supplement farm & parent team: Dalpe, Jordan S... 10. Retain significant cap space to add at the deadline if need be: Approx 3.9 million Team Looks more like this: Roster Size Upper Limit Cap Payroll Avg. Bonuses Cap Space 23 $71,100,000 $67,157,500 $850,000 $3,942,500 . D. Sedin $7,000,000 H. Sedin $7,000,000 Z. Kassian 3,000,000 B. Horvat $894,167 R. Kesler $5,000,000 J. Iginla 2,000,000 A. 4. Changes to Kick Start the 2013/2014 team

got a GM job already on EA GM connected mode
  5. Changes to Kick Start the 2013/2014 team

think most of the players will be back after the break excluding Santo (miracles do happen)
  6. Changes to Kick Start the 2013/2014 team

think most people can see the flaws with Torts system or lack of
  7. starting point for a trade involving Kesler would involve 2 high first round pick, 2 blue chip prospect. Highly doubt the Nucks trade him for such a low return
  8. Changes to Kick Start the 2013/2014 team

Coaching strategy - Instead of having all five skaters collapse to the net, employ a staggered approach. Two forwards covering the points, a third man pressuring the puck & blocking passing lanes, a net presence clearing & protecting the net. This gives the opposing team less time & gap to operate. - Use a two man pressure with a third man in the high middle to pressure opponents in the offensive zone. An X diagram. - Use a five man unit break out of the defensive zone - On the power play, think of the Anson Carter era. It needs more fluidity. The Sedin Unit set up on the right side of the ice. A right handed shot (not kesler) moves b/w the left ice & front of the crease. A right & left shooting Dmen (preferably Garrison & Bieksa). D sneaking in & out from the point. This approach gives the Sedin unit more options than only shoots from the point. - Use each players strengths more effectively. Offensive starts for the Sedins & Kesler on defensive draws/starts - Use the Sedins at last few seconds of a penalty kill. - Roll all 4 lines with shorter shifts. This allows the whole team to be fresh. The idea of playing only a handful of players a lot leads to collapses at the end of games. Furthermore makes an otherwise fast team look slow - Play an aggressive skill style of hockey & pressure the man as oppose to backing away looking for the shot block. You are more effective standing than laying on your stomach 90% of the time. Use shot block as a last result if the pressure fails. - Do line rushes at practice. Practise shoot outs - On the rush 1 D joins the rush 75% of the time while the second D stays slightly back Balanced Line combo - Each line has an identity and some element of grit Line 1 (15 mins): D Sedin – H Sedin – Z Kassian (Sedins get size, right shoot, net presence) Play primarily a down low & overload style with a mobile D man moving in & out of the slot. They get 90% offensive start Line 2 (16 mins): C Higgins – R Kesler – N Jensen (speedy line & board play ) Gets most defensive starts with Richardson on the ice for defensive draws in place of Jensen (2 centerman (L&R). Line 3(14 mins): D Booth – J Schroeder – A Burrows (2 playmakers, 1 shooter, a physical net presence, speedy line). Gets 60% of the offensive start with Kesler replacing Schroeder for most of the defensive draws. Line 4 (11 mins): Richardson – K lain – Y Hansen (speedy north – south line). Kesler starts in the defensive zone in place of Lain. Loaded Line (4 mins): D Sedin – H Sedin – R Kesler/Burrows/Booth (depends on who is hot during the game) D paring: Edler-Garrison D pairing: D hamhius (DD) – K Beiska (OD) pair mostly with line 2 & 4 A Edler (OD) – C Tanev (DD) pair mostly with line 1 J Garrison (OD) – R Stanton (DD) pair mostly with line 3 Diaz - GM Moves - Add an offensive minded coach in the mode of C Crawford & a power play guru to the coaching staff - Add a Stay at home physical Right hand crease clearing Dman to stabilize the D core. Think Willie M type player(pair with Edler & pair Tanev with Garrison) - Add a gritty forward/ Centerman like S Ott. Play Booth & Schroeder & Kesler/ Higgins – ott(Santo)* – Burrows/ Richardson – Lain (Ott) –Hansen Power play Units PP1(1:15mins) : Sedin – Sedin – Hansen & Garrison (Edler) - Kesler (Bieksa) (strategy- combination of umbrella, shooting & overload) PP2 (0:45 ): Lain (net presence & occasionally Kesler if not on PP1) – Schroeder – Higgins & Edler – Tanev (shooting strategy)
  9. [Trade] Cody Hodgson to Buffalo

bad trade...why didn't we offer up a 1st round draft pick along with Raymond for Kassian? Makes more sense. Keep Cody & add Kassian. This Trade sucks
