  1. [PGT] Vancouver Canucks vs. Minnesota Wild

With a healthy lineup we beat some really good teams. That doesn't always translate to playoff success but it doesn't go against it either
  2. Stealth-Rebuild Is Possibly 91% Done!

Tram is definitely good enough to be a top 4 in the NHL. How often do you see a Russian good enough to be a star in the NHL stay in Russia? Unless they've already been in the NHL and have made millions before going back to Russia to finish their careers? He's too young and too good to not wanna test himself in the best league in the world.

I think our current pool of defence is not far off. Once Tryamkin comes back, Tryamkin, Gudbranson, Tanev, Pouliot is a solid top 4 with Juolevi and Stetcher rounding up top 6. Get what we can for Edler , Del Zotto and if we win the Dahlin sweepstakes, I think our defense is good to go. Even if not Dahlin, take the best defensemen available this draft and we are good to go but we need to bring back the big Russian.
  4. [PGT] Vancouver Canucks vs. Montreal Canadiens

Yep, pre injuries, we ran with the best in the league. We were a playoff calibre team that probably would have been able to get to the 2nd round. I'd rather let nature takes its course and we get one more high draft pick this year. It'll work out.
  5. Elias Pettersson | C/LW

I would prefer Elias be the one to lead the Swedes to victory over Canada. However, had Dipietro and Lind also made the team along with Gajovich, I would be cheering for canada while hoping EP has a great performance
  6. Olli Juolevi | D

LOL. Juolevi plays defence for the Canucks. Tryamkin used to play defence for the Canucks. Tryamkin is now in Russia. Sharapova is also Russian. Sharapova plays tennis. So. Does Nadal. Hey let's talk about tennis.
  7. Olli Juolevi | D

    Who are the chefs?
  8. Olli Juolevi | D

Nice, still talking about Edler and Foote on the Juolevi thread...
  9. [PGT] Anaheim Ducks vs. Vancouver Canucks

I have to agree here. I thought Edler had a strong game tonight and showed more fire than usual. I just don't like him on the pp. He doesn't have enough speed to rush the puck up ice nor can he get a shot through from the point. He's too predictable in the PP. You know he's going to drop the puck so defenders don't even back up anymore. They stay on his hip when he's rushing the puck up ice.
  10. [PGT] Anaheim Ducks vs. Vancouver Canucks

Worst thing ever was the night Gagner Vanek and Boeser combined for 12 points. That one blip is going to keep Gagner in the lineup next to Boeser ensuring the play dies on his stick before it gets to Boeser...
  11. [PGT] Los Angeles Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks

When the going gets tough and the whistles dissappear, the strategy to playing the Sedins is pinning them along the board and then eventually tackling them to the ice. Everyone in the league knows that and it's been deemed legal based on the lack of penalties called. Other players have speed and agility to shake off defenders along the boards. The Sedins don't. That's where their game ends.
  12. Elias Pettersson | C/LW

I recently mentioned it but ppl had the same concerns about Boeser after last years WJC (including me) One tourney will not make or break a kids career or be the absolute indicator of success or failure. It is simply more data to help with projections. We've seen Hodgson lead tourney in scoring, same with Schroeder but no NHL success. We've seen Boeser mediocre but having one of the best rookie seasons ever in the NHL. WJC is just one week of hockey and there could be so many different factors as to why certain players look better than others. (ice time, line mates, injury /illness) What's funny is that Petterson has still looked good every game and has been a positive contributor. Him Dahlin and Nylander are the guys the team leans on and Sweden looks like they will be in the medal rounds this year. I'd say that's pretty good news for a 5th overall pick that people were unsure about..
  13. I'm not going to lie... I was a bit nervous after his poor/mediocre showing at the WJC. I'm delightfully surprised. He's scoring from all areas of the ice. He gets the greasy goals in tight and also snipes from the slot. He has high hockey IQ and despite not being the fastest skater, goes to the right areas of the ice. He's not a perimeter player like I had previously thought. That will hopefully be the difference which allows him to continue scoring when the going gets tough. So happy with this pick Benning.
  14. [PGT] Chicago Blackhawks vs. Vancouver Canucks

That line had incredible chemistry. I would keep them together for a while and if they continue to click, Horvat and Baertschi should get another line mate so that we have multiple scoring lines. That would push the Sedins down to third line which is amazing depth and more favorable matchups and we can stack our 4th line to be a complete shut down line. As for trading Vanek at the deadline, it's the right move. Classic buy low sell high. He's been very impressive this year and would be an asset to any contender. He plays well on both sides of the puck. We won't be contenders for another 3 years and by then he will be too old as he is less than a month from turning 34. I'd rather he helps us this year especially if we can get a first rounder. Same for Gagner. He had negative value up until now but if he can keep this up, he might be able to get us a second rounder.... Imagine Benning finds another Boeser and a Gadjovich in the first 2 rounds from draft picks acquired...

Virtanen's best game as a Canuck
