  1. I was thinking of this exact same quote. Funny how players are more "open" when they are at the twilight of their careers and trying to extend their careers with another contract
  2. Ouch that's terrible. Would love to have had at least a year or 2 after his KHL contract was done
  3. If we qualify him, how long do we retain his rights before he can pull a Tryamkin and become a UFA?
  4. I came to the Kravstov Signing Thread. I didn't realize it was the Crying over Lockwood thread. I think all the tears are better suited in the Kravstov Lockwood trade thread.
  5. yeah really though, arent there bigger problems than 4th line filler vs failed first round experiment? Like it's nothing to be too upset about We should be upset about the contracts for Boeser, Myers, OEL etc. maybe it's lowered expectations but a Lockwood vs Kravy handwringing seems unnecessary
  6. Well you were crying about losing Lockwood for him.. I just don't think it's a big deal at all. I still think it's worthwhile to qualify Kravy and hope he has an amazing 2 years in the KHL and perhaps mature a bit and comeback to take another run at the NHL while we retain his rights. If he never comes back, it really only cost us a 4th line prospect... Im ok with these types of gambles but you seem to want to collect 4th liners at the expense of potential top 6 guys. If Kravy was a surefire top 6, it wouldn't have cost us Lockwood and a 7th.
  7. Can we all agree that a 4th line grinder isnt worth all this squabble? you can buy 4 more lockwoods if Boeser and Myers were at correct contracts True moneyball now is finding really good 3rd and 4th liners at a good price. (Vets that are still good but getting squeezed out by younger players who are marginally cheaper. For instance, we complained that losing Motte was a travesty until he went on to get more injuries. My guess is that you can sign him this year for 1m I would take him over lockwood at 250k-350k more. Those kinds of deals (250k swing) arent what screws a team. Its the Boeser type contracts where they re getting paid 2-3m more than their worth.
  8. I like Lockwood but we have bigger fish to fry than an oft injured borderline 4th line player that tries his best. Not being harsh but you can find comparables on the open market for close to league min. I learned that first hand when I was crying about Motte and realized we were ok without him
  9. My thought however is... Why didnt we claim a guy like Vrana? Kravy has never produced at an NHL level while Vrana has. i feel like we need to take a shot at guys like that and then dump/ waive them if it doesnt work out.
  10. Yeah we had him penciled in more so because we didn't want to risk losing him. I was actually nervous about what would happen if multiple kids in the AHL outplayed him in camp. Kravy isn't the answer to the cap debacle.
  11. I am glad it worked out this way. Between Podz, Hogz and other prospects that have done everything they've been asked to do including going to the AHL to improve their game, it was a tough dilemma to gift Kravy a spot in the lineup next year and would have set a bad precedent. I liked his size, defensive awareness and skill but the desire and that extra oomph needed to be a good hockey player wasn't there He can perhaps go through the motions in the KHL until a lightbulb goes off one day, if that ever happens, i hope we have his rights.
  12. Yes the ntc but my thought is that it's better to waive in June and get family settled in Arizona rather than be stubborn and then get waived and have no idea where you'll end up in sept
  13. I think a cap floor team can do both but again, cash is a big part of it. A cash strapped team like Arizona does not want to pay 6m in cash. If it's for a first rounder maybe. (essentially buying a first round for 6m) A team like mtl can afford to do that. Monahan was paid 6m to play 25 games this year. To a team that doesn't have much cash, spending 1m that represents 6m and having him log big minutes on D while potentially trading that 1m salary at the tdl for a 2nd rounder is very appealing. Total cash expense would 700k ish, you got a guy that played a lot of minutes and then traded that in for a 2nd round pick.
  14. Lol yeah i guess you can do what we did and put him on a pairing with OEL and give them top minutes as our "shutdown" pair.
  15. A cap floor team would be stupid to not take him for free. A serviceable NHL dman that's 1m cash while 6m cap allowing them to hit the cap floor and still getting a potential 2nd or 3rd rounder at the tdl? A GM would not be doing his job if he didn't take that for free.
  16. Lol i see a Myers, AB and a 2nd for Seth Jones
  17. Ah the ncaa loophole... Yeah playing in Regina pretty much ended that opportunity. What I think really we should be doing is all of aqualinis cronies should be sponsoring Canuck players. Oh brand new condo development? We'd love Petey to be the new face of the development. We will give him a penthouse unit valued at 5m for "marketing" purposes. The money doesn't come from aquaman or his company so there's no foul. It's like a player getting sponsored by Nike or Gatorade. Hmmm, how does the money go around? Well when aqau puts up bids for jobs, he will have to "discern" carefully which companies he hires and which vendors he chooses... Im sure things will "work out" Oh Petey wants to stay in Vancouver and take a home town discount? Great.
  18. From his limited time here, I thought he was really good. Im excited to see what a revamped / healed up OEL paired with Hronek will look like. If they can stabilize the 2nd pairing and eat up a lot of minutes while Quinn eats ups first pairing minutes, i think we'll be in good shape. Most of our issues last year came from poor defense. We will see much better puck movement between OEL and Hronek and Quinn is a wizard with the puck. I could potentially see our offensive numbers increasing while taking pressure off the defense and improving the D numbers
  19. Seriously we shoulda shut down Demko and played Hughes like 18 min a night All these players in the 5 to 9 group is killing me...
  20. And Ofcourse the canucks don't get lucky...
  21. I think at this point, it's not really about who's coming back which is a better fit, it's more about who can we trade that won't cost us assets as well to move. I think Garland and AB are on fair contracts and shouldn't cost to move. We might not get a good return but if the purpose is to shed cap, then maybe that's what they do. Boeser is probably overpaid by 1.5 m. He however has size compared to the other two but has been underperforming due to external factors as well as injuries. I think a healthy motivated Boeser's ceiling is a 70 PT player (which he has never achieved) At this point, I'd cut bait with him too. Use your head not your heart. The guys previous best is 56 pts.. His agent did good work.
