  1. If that's the case, garly's gotta go. I like Garland though... Who would you keep between Garland, Boeser and AB? I feel like 2 of the 3 need to go. Maybe even all 3...
  2. Thats a great point. We finally have a good development system in place. With the move to Abby and good work by colliton and staff, hopefully players are on the same system and it's just plug and play whenever they get called up.
  3. So what are the positives to this season? Our Jr Canucks hung with the best team in the AHL where it literally could have gone either way? Hogz looks ready for a reg spot in the NHL? Wolanin might be poised for NHL next year?
  4. It seems hella expensive to watch ahl online lol
  5. For the old school guys, this would be perfect on I think it used to be channel 4, Rogers community channel lol
  6. It's gameday right? Why so quiet? Is Podz in?
  7. Interesting. So they used horvat as a shutdown centre and used Nelson as the 1c? So who was horvat mainly matched up against?
  8. Wow Logic amongst all the Horvat hate Nice work Didn't realize his o zone starts were so minimal. So who took most of the o zone draws? I would have expected them to do that with their 1c... Unfortunate that they used their 8.5m 1c to play a 3c game
  9. I guess our hope is that our smaller guys are like the next Marchand or even Burrows. My hope is hogz becomes a Marty st Louis type player. Guys that lack size but make up for it with hustle and never quite attitude.
  10. I really hope he's good to go by tomorrow. Want to see him and hogz and Raty) if he plays) dominate.
  11. Boeser retained + Garland or AB and Raty for PLD. Myers for whatever Kuz Petey Mik Podz Miller AB Kravy PLD Hogz Joshua Aman PDG Hughes Severson OEL Hronek Wolanin Brisbois Burroughs Last pairing 5-7D is up for grabs including Woo, Rathbone, Johansson, Wolanin, Brisbois, Burroughs Demko This means our window is now
  12. Yup it's a common practice but this time, the media found out. One possible reason could be that Tocchet had to give a 2 weeks notice with TnT prior to leaving. It would be very easy to piece together the entire story at that point. Maybe the leak came from there. We don't know exactly what happened besides the fact that what happened is normally a common practice but this time the media found out. Canucks are usually air tight in their operations so that's why I'm looking at the possibility that the source might have been TNT
  13. Thanks for the insight to his game. Frankly I had no idea how he plays minus his lethal shot.
  14. I dunno about that. You think a team would offer him 8.5 if he went to ufa? I just can't fathom it. Pundits always throw around numbers but that doesn't really mean they know what's going on internally. They were throwing around some crazy numbers for JTM and when he signed for 8m, ppl were surprised. Its the media's job to stir the pot and sometimes its the same media guys that have agents as their "sources" I don't think you. Trade a first, Raty and AB if you think you're gonna end up paying 8.5 for Bo. If Miller is untradable @ 8m as some suggest, what does that say about horvat?
  15. The funny thing is, the team seems to be doing fine without Horvat. Miller has filled his spot admirably and is actually doing a better job at it. My guess is, the team will be fine without Boeser as well. Horvat was a top trade target because Allvin was smart enough to prevent other GMs from negotiating with Horvat prior to the trade. I can guarantee you that if they knew he would demand 8.5x8, the market would actually be very small. That's why Horvat's camp completely had Lou by the balls. Lou was the only one dumb enough to trade a bunch of assets for Horvat without even knowing the price tag. If he couldn't get Horvat signed, he'd look like the biggest loser on earth. That's why he had no choice but to cave in. It's pretty funny. I'm glad Horvat got paid and I'm glad he bent over Lou. I'm sure Lou is not gonna be very happy with Bo going forward. Bo completely took advantage of his boss lol.
  16. The question was "how does this rank in terms of playoff pushes and fan excitement?" The response.... "Its a lot better than Vancouver, I'll tell you that for free." Lol probably so many classier ways to answer that question. Horvat is Mr Vanilla his entire time in Vancouver and responds in a way I've never heard him interviewed before. I think the response shows that there was some hurt on his side as well as there was no need for that jab. Most players would come up with the cliche responses like " excited to be a part of this group pushing for a playoff spot. Fans have been electric etc." For whatever reason, he left Vancouver with a distaste in his mouth. He thought he was worth 8.5 and we prob thought he was worth 6.5 to 7. I think we were right in our assessment but Horvat took it personally.
  17. Im actually ok with where we are at. Had we taken Tkachuk instead of Juolevi and Nylander or Ehlers instead of Virtanen, there's a high chance we wouldn't have Petey or Hughes. Those 2 guys are like 2nd overall picks in redrafts. They are elite superstars. I'm choosing to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. Regret isn't going to change anything. I would rather build around Petey and Hughes rather than Nylander and Tkachuk. I am now looking at a team where we are trying to figure out how to take all the talent in the middle 6 (Boeser, Garland, Hoglander, Podz, Kravy, PDG, Joshua) keep the best ones and reallocate assets to fill positions of need (3C and defense) Nice that the team has options.
  18. While you are talking about others not getting over Horvat, it also looks like other people's opinions of Canuck fans also live rent free in your head. Horvat situation is comical. The guy was a traditional 50-60 PT guy. He (similar to Brock) came to the team when we were low on talent and was desperate to hand the torch over from the Sedins. As a result, he became a Captain and a leader at a young age. He signed for fair market value 5.5m cap hit when factoring his points production. When factoring is "on pace /pts per game" he is more like a 62 PT player so one could say he deserves a slight raise if he was to stay healthy. Factoring in the other intangibles like faceoffs, captaincy, decent (not great) 2 way play, 7m should be the max that the guy makes. Just because we were idiots with Brock doesn't mean we have to be an idiot with Horvat. We got a great haul for trading him and its been amusing to see him regress back to the mean and end his best season ever with 70 pts. For us, we see a guy we called captain over value his self worth, left the team that drafted him, signed to a really undeserving deal while he had Lou's balls in a vice grip and is now playing like a 55 PT player which is who he is. For him to take a shot at Vancouver in an interview didn't sit well with me. He's never had a contentious thing to say or do while he was here. If anything, we were angry that he didn't grab the bull by the horns or stick up for his teammates etc. To take a pot shot at this organization while not even being able to back up his new signed salary is pretty funny. When he left, I wished him the best. Signing a big contract comes with big expectations. If he can't pick up his play, the next 8 years are going to be rough. Luckily, he'll have a lot of money in the bank to help him feel better.
  19. Can't agree with you more. I'd move a few of Garland, AB, Boeser and Myers this summer depending on 2 factors. 1) who is fully committed and training their butts off? 2) who would give the best returns or didn't need sweeteners etc. I'd keep the guys who are working hard this summer. That's the culture we are trying to build. I have a feeling the hard working guys will be Garland and Boeser. If for example that's the case, I'd move AB Play Garland and Boeser on 2nd line with Miller Have hogz and Podz and Joshua battle for winger spots on the 3rd line and sign a bonafide 3c to control the play. Dress the 4th line with whoever shows the best between Kravy, PDG, Dries, Aman and the leftover winger from 3rd line.
  20. Im with you there I want the team built around strong 2 way play. Miller has turned it around. Maybe Boeser can as well? Our 1-2 punch down the middle looks great. We also have some players who are solid 2 way forwards like Mik, Podz We need the others to step up now (Garland, AB, Boeser Hogz, Kuz) At the same time, I feel like a fool falling for the same talk every season. Unfinished business lol? Brock gonna put up 30? So far, it's all talk. I say every year, this is the last chance for some of these guys. Well Boeser is on chance number 3
  21. Agreed. Guy is an RFA. He is very good but not an elite talent like Hughes or Petey. If another team wants to poach him, we can either match or take the compensation. Anything reasonable will be matched. They can't even try until July 2024. By then, I'm sure our brass will know exactly what Hronek is looking for. I would be very surprised if he's not locked up by then I can't see a world in which we can't retain Hronek. A 7m-8.3m offer sheet might be the only way a team could take him as the contract is too high for Hronek but compensation would only be a 1st 2nd and a 3rd which is essentially what we gave up to get him. However my guess is that after the way the Carolina mtl fiasco played out, GMs will prob not do offer sheets.
  22. Best of Brock will be 65 pts. He has yet to even put up 60... After the trade deadline, he had a really good month in march where he put up 14 pts in 15 games. He tailed off in April where he put up 3 pts in 7 games to end the year. I feel he could have put up more. He had some great chances and set up his teammates on a few really good chances. At the end of the day, that's 17 pts in 22 games which is 0.77 pts/game or 63 game pt pace. This is the stretch where Brock himself felt he was playing much better. So how bad was the rest of the season when he was grieving the loss of his dad? Well, actually pretty similar as his season avg is 0.74 pts / game or 61 pt pace Also we are talking "on pace". Brock has never played a full season as he is often injured. As a result, I feel confident when I say a really good number for him is 65 pts. That's shattering his previous best by 9 pts. Is that worth 6.7? Debatable... If he was a physical power forward that can hit and play a strong 2 way game, then yes. 6.7 is worth it. Is it worth it for a one dimensional forward who has decent size but isn't physical? Brock's likeability factor always clouds my judgment Combination of his good personality, timing (arriving when team was devoid of talent and putting up great numbers in rookie and sophomore year). and great work of his agent had produced earnings that far exceeds his play. He should really be making AB or Connor Garland money but at 6.7m, you have to wonder whether we can have a player replace Brock and have similar production for much less money (Garland, Hogs, AB) OR we spend a bit more and upgrade at that position to roll 2 really strong top 2 lines while we shed capspace by trading Boeser, Garland and AB (16m) and Myers (6m) Kuz Petey Mik Hogz Miller UFA (8m) Kravy UFA (4.5m) Podz Joshua Aman PDG Hughes UFA (7M) OEL Hronek Brisbois Burroughs Demko Probably need to upgrade at 3rd pairing D and move one of Brisbois or Burroughs to 7D. Brock would have to be a reliable 2 way player that puts up 67 pts to be worth it. He's yet to do that in his life and as a result, the current contract he is on is not looking too great.
  23. Who cares. We got Petey.
  24. Debating on going to the game. Would love to watch the boys live. Never been to an ahl game before but with the talent on the team like hogz, wolanin, hopefully Podz etc it would be fun to watch
  25. I am a big Burroughs fan and want him to come back next year as the 6D or 7th D. Perhaps you are correct and I need to manage expectations. I think if paired with a solid player, Burroughs could be a reliable 6D. He can be like an Oscar Fantenburg from 2020 but with more bite and less size. I loved how Oscar played as well. Nothing flashy and got the job done. I see the same in Burroughs. I guess it's not realistic to expect top 4 did skillset in a bottom pairing guy. I feel like with better skating, he can go from a 6D or even 7D to a decent 5D where he becomes the anchor of a pairing. Perhaps that's what I'm rooting for so that we can pair a guy like Hirose with him and have Burroughs being that stable presence. I feel like he has it in him to do that
