  1. I used to think Burroughs was decent mobility wise but I've seen some glaring mistakes on transition defence where he cant skate back fast enough while processing the play at the same time. He seems better in set D situations where hes defending the cycle and then getting in the lane to block a shot etc. I am strictly speaking defensively. Guys like Hughes, Myers have mobility (although Myers lacks in other areas) I used to think OEL did too but it looks like either he lost a step or injuries slowed him own this year Juulsen lacks mobility then Schenn then Burroughs I'm talking just straight footspeed. When a defender takes Burroughs hard outside, Burroughs does all he can to skate back as fast as he could but once the forward cuts or makes a move, I feel like Burroughs is swimming in the deep end and cant recover to take away the passing lane or close the gap etc.
  2. I agree with both of you PDG should not be a top 6 player on a winning club Luckily for him, I do see him still being able to contribute on the 3rd or 4th line Can Hogz play next year as a bottom 6 forward or is it top 6 or bust? I can see AB, Garland, Hogz all playing similar roles but I do wonder who is / will be the best player out of the bunch. Is it possible to have a small skilled bottom 6 lines (minus joshua) that can outskate and outscore the opposition? Will that even work? Kuz Petey Mik Hogz Miller Boeser Podz Dries AB Garland Aman Joshua Kravy PDG That's quite the logjam including a need to upgrade at 3c This team has a lot of pieces and it'll be interesting to see how RT will form this team I am personally in favor of whoever buys in and trains their butts off this summer stays while the uncommitted ones are gone That might mean guys like Boeser, Kravy get traded. I want guys that are hungry to be on this team
  3. Love that guy too. He needs to work on his mobility but love what he brings to the table every night. We need to be a hard team to play against and he does that. I would want him either as a 7th dman or a 6D with a good partner who ups his game.
  4. Im a big Burroughs fan. Love guys like him and schenn that gives some respect and credibility to the team. That being said said, the Dawg rating doesn't capture the importance of him to say Hughes for example. A really simple way to consider this would be to say look at the hits stat. Schenn out hits Hughes by a wide margin. But if my custom stat gave hits a 90 percent weight vs controlled zone exits at Like 10 percent, you would think Schenn is more valuable than Hughes. The problem in all of this is that we don't even know what variables and weight Faber is giving to any of these stats. A team definitely needs tough guys that can hit and block shots. But they also need elite skilled players. I would wager that an elite skilled player is a rarer commodity than a physical player. That's why I think the Dawg rating is stupid. Every team needs a dawg or 2. Maybe even 3. So maybe this stat is only pertinent when looking at filling the role of a dawg and evaluating 2 dawgs when looking at free agency. However Faber compares all players on the same Dawg scale and that is why this whole thing is stupid.
  5. It's also not clear at all In trying to give Faber the benefit of the doubt, not only did I read his recent article but I went back to the Dec article where he claims he explains the formula in better detail. He gives the equation but does not back up the equation by explaining any of the variables and says they got half the "stats" from public sources and half from manual tracking of games... Like what the hell does that mean? My guess is public stats are hits, blocked shots, goals, assists, shots etc What are the other half? Like how do you create a metric without telling you what information is being considered and how they calculate and give weight to it? All I knows is (a+b+c+d) is given a 1.6x while some other variable is given 1.4x. Also that means a+b+c+d must all be equally important.... Like jeez man. What an amateur. It's like getting accounting advice from a bear riding a tricycle.
  6. So, I just have to roster guys like Lazar and Pezzetta and have a top pairing of Schenn and Burroughs to win the cup? Not only will we have the highest DAWG rating but we will also have the lowest cap. Win win. Faber should just be completely transparent about his formula (a+b+c+d) etc and tell us what each variable means and where he got the stats so we can look at it and either help improve it or throw it in the garbage. Here's a thought. I'll also add in my top DAWGs and low DAWGs Chris Neil 82.5 , Tom Wilson 87.6, Chris Pronger 92.4 , Scott Stevens 88.3, Raffi Torres 78.5 Low DAWGS Kyle Wellwood 25.4 , Jayson Megna 32.2, Linden Vey 28.6 Look at that, I did what Faber did in 2 min
  7. Can we please stop using DAWG metrics. It's utterly stupid. My fear is that it'll catch on CDC
  8. Just wondering... What do ppl see as hog's potential with the big club? I think he's worked hard in Abby and deserves a shot in the NHL next year. PDG is currently on the 2nd line role playing next to Miller and Boeser. RT likes PDG there but I wonder if there's enough skill. Hard to give Hogz a shot there though when even Garland hasn't really been given a chance there either. PDG seems like he can also slide down to 3rd line and play a role there whereas I dunno if Hogz can? Ideally, if Hogz could handle 3rd line duties, putting him with a responsible player like Podz and a solid 3C would be great for development. I just don't know if thats putting him in a position to succeed. Between Podz Kravy, Garland Boeser Hogz PDG, Joshua, Dries, Aman, AB, That's a lot of competition for a middle 6 spots with Miller being the only secure 2C. I feel like something has to give. We need an upgrade at 3C and have wayyy too many middle 6 wingers That's like 10 forwards for 5 spots. If we bring in a 3c externally, that's 11 forwards for 5 spots. Lots of choices to make this summer. I guess another way of looking at it, who out of those guys can play 4th line? Joshua Aman PDG? Doesnt really seem fair to them as their versatility is what would demote them to 4th line... But yeah i like the level of competition here. We Definitely have some options this off season. The message has to be whoever doesn't work hard this summer is gone.
  9. Lol just when I thought Faber was going to let this thing die, he comes back. Not a fan of DAWG metrics. Gimmicky and stupid. Well it's not even gimmicky. It's just stupid.
  10. Boeser at his best is a 70-75 PT player if he can remain healthy. Last year was the most games he's played in his entire career so from a physical health perspective, he is getting better. I know some may scoff at the idea of "on pace over 82 games" but look at someone like Petey. I used to have arguments with others when I said he is a pt/game player and he'll be good for 80+ points in the future but they said he's never done it so can't expect those numbers. Well he blew that away this year. To think some wanted him traded last year was the dumbest thing I've read (you know who you are) Boeser is a bit different than Petey though. I believe we've seen him at his best already which is a 0.88 pts / game pace. The only issue was his health I feel like enough years have passed since his back injury and he seems to have recovered from it. He now seems to have dealt with his mental issue regarding his dad. I thought last year would be that year but it took a season longer to grieve (which is ok) I honestly expect him to put up 70 next season playing beside a reformed 2 way player JTM. Is that worth 6.7? I dunno. Although he's not a banger, he is one of the few wingers we have that has decent size. He seems to have lost his elite shot, but we have seen him scoring some greasy goals in front of the net the past couple of seasons (rebounds and tip ins) I hope his shooting comes back. I have no idea if he was dealing with wrist issues etc. My hope is that Boeser puts in a full commitment to train this offseason and puts up 70-75 pts this year.
  11. I hate the oilers but I gotta say this. The reffing has been very one sided and shows the corrupt nature of this league. What's funny is hearing all these oilers fan cry about it when they were the same people laughing at us when we were getting screwed in 2011 against the Bruins. Anyway, this piss poor reffing has to stop. If I wanted to watch WWE, I'd go watch that. I watch hockey because it's supposed to be a sport not some rigged entertainment.
  12. I think best move ever could be letting hogz own the ahl before getting full time duties in the NHL.
  13. Is there anyway to. Watch the stream of the game? Tied game. In the 3rd
  14. But to get the top ahl defensemen seems like a good gamble?
  15. I wonder why a bottom feeding team didn't grab him on the waivers.. Can only playoff teams grab players?
  16. I hope so I didnt realize he only signed short term last time because we had no capspace I thought he was just betting on himself (rightfully so) 8 year contract at his age is pretty ideal for us wed have him for his best years
  17. I hope so Agents need to get paid too lol If I was strictly thinking about maxmizing income from a long term career perspective. a 3 year deal followed by an 8 year deal would be the one that makes him richest. and at 36, if hes still productive, he can sign annual contracts to stay in the league. As a fan though, I'd love to lock him up for the next 8 years before the cap goes up
  18. My guess is that he'll bet on himself and do another 3 year deal @ 10.5m. That's already over 50m in careeer earning before 28 yo. He'll continue to put up great numbers and maximize as he his hits prime and at that point go for an 8 year deal for 12.5m or perhaps even higher to maximize the cap going up taking him to 36 y/o Yes there's always risk of injury but 50m is already life changing money anyway
  19. JK Yes I agree and really like what RT is doing with the team. I was fascinated to read the latest comments from Bear regarding the chaotic lack of structure he first witnessed when he got here from Carolina. He was talking about how the old system was designed to make the players read and react almost in individual form rather than playing the system as a team and knowing where your teammate and support will be. He went on to talk about systems and how a good system allows good players the freedom to go out and make a play but as soon as the play gets shut down, system allows the player to then go to his support play rather than turning the puck over in a bad area trying to force a play. We saw that continuously with Miller despite him putting up lots of points. What RT has stated numerous times is complete truth. A good system and players who buy in allows the team to play much faster as less thinking and processing is required and they just go to where they are supposed to be rather than watching the play and then processing it and then skating over to where they "think" they should be. Bear also talked about lack of accountability with the old system as there wasnt a defined spot a player should be so when one guy says to another, "hey, you're suppose to be over there", they respond with, "worry about your own play" rather than acknolwedging that they were in the wrong spot and learning / taking accountability for it.
  20. I think management sees exactly what it is. What they say vs what they think isn't always the same. So far they have moved our captain, then moved the coveted first rounder for immediate help on D etc. They have been fairly accurate in assessing the team. Lack of structure, Demko stealing games etc. I have come around and regained trust in the staff.
