  1. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

I'm honestly not sure what you're referring to. But I remember Ferraro did a radio hit and he was a fan of Travis. Also, the competency and respect for media plays a big part in who I select as a leader of a franchise. Gillis knew how to speak, but was an arrogant snob. Benning has no speaking abilities, and really does fit the "Dim Jim" thing. Ferraro is a media member, he speaks clearly and is able to get his points across, and will be perfect at that. Also, I read somewhere that he was in the top 100 for NHL points when he retired. He was no slob of a player. I think another thing people overlook is that the franchise value for the canucks has gone down like 200m under Benning while it rose significantly under Gillis. That to me, is likely the real reason why Benning has not been re-signed. I just think Ferraro ticks all the boxes of what an NHL GM should be and is a perfect balance. The dinosaur mindset the NHL has regarding the old boys club and that only former NHLers belong in managerial spots is so cringey. They're running billion dollar businesses.

My little buddy? Okay? Why do you want to argue something I'm not arguing? Why do people do this? Congrats, you beat yourself twice in two arguments I didn't make. I never said Chayka was awesome nor have I ever made any post on any forum stating that I'm a fan of his work. He's struggled in his first year and a half on the job. His moves have either been bad or they've been good at the time but have not turned out well. He deserves the criticism he's gotten. However, I wouldn't fire him yet. AND if you actually read my posts, you'd see I clearly stated Benning walked into an empty cupboard. Would you like me to quote it, screenshot it, video it, show it to you in person? Or do you want to keep arguing against yourself instead of the argument I'm making..

@TheGuardian_ That's generally not what overage means when referring to prospects. Usually that means players who were passed over in their first year being draft eligible.
  4. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

Fair enough. It's a very minor win. I guess in my mind I don't think there's any teams in the NHL who would pay more than a fourth for Granlund so I just don't think much of him but a fourth is better than nothing so youre right.
  5. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

Holland was good for 15 years and over the past five years has made cringe worthy decisions. His contracts and asset management have been so bad. They haven't drafted well either. I can't tell you who we should hire. I'm not the employer. I don't know what the expectations are from ownership, how much they are going to meddle, how the candidates perform in the interview process. I can tell you what I WOULD expect as an owner. I need a general management who can turn around a team within five years and there to be a linear growth pattern. We need a forward thinking general manager. One who uses analytics, but not as a be all and end all. To me, the eye test is still the most important dictator of talent and you use analytics to gain advantages and as a way to backup what your eyes see. We need a GM who is a master of asset management. I don't think the GM needs to be a junior scout or go watch games in person. It sounds cool and all, but I think the scouting department should be separate and the GM should handle all NHL level duties and have more of an eye with pro scouting. I'm pretty sure this is what they've switched to anyways which is good. (there are articles stating Judd Brackett has basically been given the keys to run the scouting department and draft and apparently he was a big decision maker at this year's draft. However, Benning reportedly was a big Kole Lind and Matt Brassard fan and had a say in those selections). I like what Toronto did with their front office and the balance they have. I'm not opposed to bringing back Lawrence Gilman as an assistant for the CBA and cap, etc. If you really want me to throw out a GM name, I've always been a big fan of Ray Ferraro. I usually agree with 90% of what he says on his radio, blog, and podcast excerpts. At the end of the day, Granlund is a bottom six player who is easily replaceable. It's a wash because I think players who have no special traits have little value. What does Granlund really do? He produced well last year due to PP time, time with the Sedins and just in general lots of ice time with offensive zone starts. Then this season they have put him with less ice time and more defensive zone starts and his production went down the drain. He's just a 3rd line filler imo. AND you're right, I'm not a Benning fan.

Shinkaruk was a badly managed asset. Trade was a wash. They both suck.
  7. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

So wrong. We were all cheering except for one poster. I can link you to the thread. That was an awesome game and awesome win. General hope is a Boeser goal and a Sedin point. No, I fully expect us to lose a few moves. It's when we lose more than we win it's a major issue.
  8. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

The only agenda I have is I want this team to win. Period. Benning hasn't shown signs of being able to lead us there over his four years and the negatives far outweigh the positives. I don't think it's an agenda to believe he should not be re-signed. You can look at my post history and see I was happy about the signing because I thought we would have a manager who understood how to build a balanced team (like the Bruins that beat us and went to the SCF two years later were) and a GM who loved draft picks and had a background in scouting which is what we needed. I think it's unfair to say that people have an agenda because they're not positive about the team all the time. People used to call me a hater because I used to think Kellen Lain wouldn't be an NHL player. Or IIRC 6 of my warning points are because I didn't think Burrows would be Jagr and thought we should trade him in 2013. I want every player in this organization to succeed. Except for Loui Eriksson. That guy is a disgrace. Effort level is non existent.

Do any of my posts look like trolling to you? AND yeah, I'd be happy if we lost every single game this season. Dahlin is a franchise changing defenseman. He is stupid good. I'm also a season ticket holder for ten years. Wanna meet up at a game and discuss this over a beer? That offer is open to anyone. The reality is clunk flamed while arguing. Benning me would be banning for the sake of disagreeing.

Why do you ignore most of my post and then put in your head that the only thing I analyze is a spread sheet this whole post is putting stuff in your head and arguing against it. congrats, you beat yourself.
  11. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

They made two rebuilding moves and then in the summer signed three players, two of which with term and all as an attempt to make the playoffs. I don't look for teams to fit a narrative or agenda because I don't have one. I look at teams that do it correctly. Toronto under Burke and Nonis whatever other stupid $&!# they had going on for a long time it was awful and mediocre. Edmonton has had inept management since year one. Chiarelli is the worst and that's saying something. Yzerman is good. Toronto under the three headed monster of Shanahan, Dubas, and Lou have been effective. Winnipeg has been very good. Calgary has been good under the Treliving phase. Pittsburgh has been good under Rutherford. Dallas has been good under Nill outside of goaltending etc etc. There's no right model. Any model can work if you are capable and make the right moves managing assets. Not directly at you, but It's funny to me to see people say give Benning another 5 years but are wanting to throw a salary floor team that had no prospect pool out after just a year of Chayka LOL.
  12. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

You do realize, that Tkachuk's production last year was top 100 in the league for forwards right? There are 3 first liners per team x 30 teams (last year) so his production was elite 2nd line level. A 50 point player in the NHL today is a first liner. His current 59 point pace would have been top forty five in scoring for forwards last year. Mid end first liner production. Not to mention he's twenty and wont hit his prime for another 3 years. @Darius71 lol
  13. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

Yzerman is a monster and easily the best general manager in the league. Only reason they missed the playoffs the one year is because they had the worst injury luck seen in a decade. The player they drafted wasnt even a difference maker for them and then they flipped him for an elite offensive defenseman in Sergachev. That's asset management. Oh, and sure five to six years is fair. Benning said four to five but an extra year is fair. Problem is. Do you really see this team taking a step to be competing with the league's elite next season or the year after? I don't.
  14. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

That's a really random opinion that cannot be argued because it's purely hypothetical. But on the subject of Boeser and Gaudette, it's reported that Judd Brackett had a big influence on those two selections. Good on Benning to reportedly have promoted Judd as those are two great selections.
  15. When can we extend Jim Bennings contract?

It is easy to retrospect. You're right. My retrospective first round picks for the last 4 drafts would've been. Tkachuk - Pettersson - Boeser Nichuskin - Barbashev/McCann (it was a wash for me) - Nylander I got it wrong with believing in Nichuskin and thinking Horvat would top out as a 40 point center. The job of the scout is to project the future abilities of a player. I don't care what agencies and blogs ranked Jake at. He was so obviously not a top ten talent, especially after the shoulder injury. Also, Tkachuk is not a second line winger. He is a first line winger currently. If he regresses into a 2nd line winger who produces 45 points and Juolevi turns into a minute eating, possession monster 25 point puck mover (2/3), then yes he would be more valuable.
