  1. If a team offered Petey more than ten mil per season, he would sign. He is a good guy, not a stupid guy.
  2. As much as I liked Messier when he was not in a Canucks uniform, everything fell after he put the sweater on. He just played like he didn't care. He made Player Name look like a workaholic and that's saying something. The way the Canucks treated Linden in those days just made the team feel classless. It just sucked as a fan in those days. I really wanted to cheer for a team and just couldn't get myself up to doing it.
  3. I remember McTavish talking about that during an old interview after he retired. Messier did it to a rookie and that rookie never took a shift off again.
  4. I remember watching Messier as a kid in an Edmonton uniform. Just his snarl would turn a player around. He also used to slam his own teammates into lockers in the locker room for not playing well.
  5. I honestly think Messier was one of the reasons why Gretzky was left alone in Edmonton. Sure they had Semenko but he was just an enforcer. The other team knew Messier was going to be on the ice a lot.
  6. Cloutier's biggest problem was his temper. He just couldn't seem to keep it together and lost his focus too often. Second line scoring was definitely a problem but there really was nothing that. The Sedin draft took up a lot of assets and no free agents really wanted to come to Vancouver back then or at least notable free agents. I'm sure the Gretzky debacle did not help with that either.
  7. I went back to it after Messier went back to the Rangers. I was good back in those days. WCE era was well on it's way to the SCF in my opinion. That line buzzed every night. We had Mike Tyson on skates, the defence was solid then Clouts decided to let in a beachball from the redline I think from Lidstrom which just killed everything. God I did not know what Burke's love affair with him was. Worst goalie to play in a Canucks uniform.
  8. Loser coach when you consider the amount of players who wanted out from Torts.
  9. It was so bad, I remember not even watching hockey for a couple of years. Just played street hockey instead.
  10. Yeah I hate to admit it cause I hate the guy but Keenan was great at making trades. I just did not understand it at the time though. We lost to those guys then bring in he Captain and head coach who beat us.Just did not understand what they were thinking. It would be like bringing in Marchand after the Boston series. I still remember Burkie announcing the trade with Washington to bring back Linden. It just felt like everything was right again. I think he rubbed of on the Sedins a lot too and made helped make them who they were. At times I felt like he was underutilized and was just pigeonholed as a bottom six. He did actually do pretty well when he played with the Sedins.
  11. I feel really bad for Linden. His career just fell off as soon as he was traded. It was like the trade broke him. I still wonder to this day if he would have still been a star player had he stayed with the Canucks instead of the stops in NY, MTL and Wash. I hate Messier so much as a Canuck I credit him nothing. I still won't touch a bag of Lays to this day. Old Dutch all day everyday.
  12. Hate to say it but it's Messier. He let the Oilers, and the Rangers to the cup and from what I read, he was huge in the Gretzky leadership group when they were winning cups.
  13. I think he learned what not to do from Messier. He did not spend much time in Pittsburgh but I am sure seeing Lemieux and Jagr taught him a lot. To me if you are going to talk about the greatest player then you need to talk about all aspects of the ice and in the dressing room. Have to be good in the ozone while defensively responsible and a good leader in the locker room. Bure had one out of three of those qualities so that's why to me he is not the greatest player. Most exciting player? Yes. Most gifted goal scorer? Yes. But not greatest player. That's why I still give it to Henrik. He had all three qualities.
  14. How was he in the defensive zone? He was always on the blue line waiting for a pass. He was a total cherry picker.
  15. I can say he is one of the best but can't say The Best. He was a good point producer but that was in an era of point production and he never beat the best in the league. For all the hype about his point production he never won a Hart, never won an Art Ross. His whole NHL career and all he has is a Calder to show for it. Exciting player, yes, Best, no.
  16. It's like Petey figured that things are going slow and we need something to talk about.
  17. I love his honesty and his blunt message to management not to mess around. But to those people that want him on a team friendly deal and leave money on the table, like seriously... How many of us would leave millions on the table?
  18. Benning does this to troll Canucks fans. He always takes his sweet time with his stars. I remember Horvat and Boeser were also signed late in the off season.
  19. Here is an idea for Jim, Sign Petey before teams have a chance to offer sheet him.
  20. Lots of players in the Ring of Honour that did not end thier careers in Vancouver.
  21. If it was just Petey then I would think it's Petey holding our but both Petey and Quinn is not signed. That's Benning. Watch both get offer sheets.
