I’m not calling you a puck bunny because you like a player. I called you a puck bunny for loving Chouinard for being a nice guy and not being a good hockey player. That of course is the definition of being a puck bunny, right? There are actually a few definitions of being a puck bunny. For one, my girl cousin was in love with Bertuzzi but she wasn’t really a fan of the Canucks. I could ask her a trivia question and her answer’s were always Naslund or Bertuzzi because at the time, they were our big stars. She went to games all the time, was it because of the love of the Canucks? No. Was it for the love of her ‘future husband’ Bertuzzi? Yes.
Can you honestly tell me that you like Burrows because he’s a good player? I’m not saying that Burrows sucks or anything. All I’m saying is that Burrows is not a top player on our team and there is no IMHO, real reason to be a fan of him outside of his looks and his hard work. Burrows is indeed a hard worker and he is a great penalty killer, and I know this is mean, but Burrows wouldn’t be on any other team in the NHL if it wasn’t for our defensive style and our focus on penalty killing. It’s just a hard reality of the salary cap. It’s hard to fit a player like Burrows into a lineup because he does not produce a lot, and there is always other players that can do his job equally or even maybe better.
I remember having this discussion a few months ago with her about Chouinard. It's no use.
As far as Burrows goes, I don't think you're correct in comparing him to Chouinard. Marc was a decent penalty killer, if that. It doesn't matter which way you look at it...the man was a flop. He was expected to produce much more offensively, and he didn't. Tough luck.
But I'm a huge fan of Burrows because, although his stats are relative to that of Chouinard, the guy works his donkey off night in and night out. I have not seen a more determined player in this organization for quite some time. He didn't have a great season, and he's the first to admit it. But all those little things he did, whether rocking the PK or agitating for the sake of drawing penalties, they all helped. They all contributed to the success of this hockey club both in the regular season and in the first round of the playoffs.
I'd love for him to renew his contract in 2009/2010. Chouinard? Not so much. You can possibly put up an argument if he showed any remote signs of actually giving a damn during the regular season, but I don't believe he did. Keep him with the Moose or find a GM who is willing to take the risk. Because that's a whole lot of salary going down the drain, and Nonis has admitted it himself.
And 7morrison_fan? He's cute. I'll give you that. But I'd rather see the 1.1 going toward something a little more worthwhile than having another pretty boy on this roster.
