Russian prospects contribute to postseason wins

The Russian Super League's postseason started with back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday, and most of the Canucks' Russian hopefuls contributed to their respective teams' wins.

Winger Sergei Shirokov was named first star of Game 1 after scoring a shorthander and also dishing out an assist in CSKA's 4-1 win over Togliatti. Shirokov had no point in the next game, which CSKA also won, 5-4.

Fellow winger Ilya Krikunov scored the game winner on the power play in Game 2 to help Khimik jump out to a 2-0 series lead over Severstal.

Center Artem Chubarov netted a power play goal in each of the first two games of Omsk's series against Chehov, and the former Canuck also was named first star of both contests.
Rearguard Kirill Koltsov has an assist in the series so far, as Omsk cruised to two easy wins, 5-1 and 5-0.

Winger Evgeny Gladskikh didn't figure in the scoring in both of Magnitogorsk's wins over Tver, and defender Denis Grot was scratched from both of Nizhnekamsk's losses against Novosibirsk.

I hope that Sutter is available.

But Veilliex, Anderson, or Moller would be excellent as well althought Molelr is a little on the small side...

I would love to get Moller with LA's second. But I would be very happy if we picked him if say, Sutter, Veilleux, Anderson etc. are taken.

Also does anybody have a good idea of what type of player Veilleux is? I mean I know he is a big guy at 6'5, but what kind of player is he? As we have seen with Chouinard this year, if you don't use your size to your advantage, it isn't much of a factor.

I watched Veilleux last night and he hits hard and doesn't look slothy like Chouinard so skating isn't his major flaw. He was one of the best players in the Prospects game, he was hammering D.

Thanks to mr7 for the sig

i can't believe zach hamill is that far down the list and not to mention angelo esposito

the talent in this years draft is very even

i wouldn't be suprised if someone ranked 12th goes in the 2nd round

this years draft is good and bad... there aren't any crosbys or ovechkins this year, but the talent is very even and spread out, and is very deep

it all depends on the teams needs too...

these ratings mean nothing.. ie. Grabner was rated to go in the 2nd round and we picked him at 14th overall?

He musta been ******* happy

Joakim Anderson is a 6'3 two way centre, but he's ranked around 15 I believe.

Lets just say it would take about 1-2 h to get to Vancouver (depends on traffic) and about 20-30 minutes to get to Chillawack.

HF TOP 50 PROSPECTS

39. Cory Schneider, G - Vancouver Canucks

Schneider has been a workhorse for Boston College this season, remarkably playing in all but 20 minutes for the Eagles, but did not compete in the 2007 WJCs. Originally touted as the goaltender of the future in the Canucks organization, that may still be the case, however, the future may be a little further away, after the off-season acquisition of Roberto Luongo. Schneider has posted a very solid 24-11-1 record for Boston College, coupled with a very respectable 2.20 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in his 36 games of work. These numbers are down from his sparkling numbers of the previous season, but still have him in the upper echelon of NCAA netminders. Schneider is excellent positionally, cutting down the angles very effectively, and has quick lateral movement, all of which make him a large target between the pipes. Whether or not he will return for his senior year, or begin the acclimation process in the professional game is unclear at present. But the Canucks have no need to rush him at this point.

Prospect Games for WED:

Spokane @ Chilliwack (Grabby SHOULD be on fire tonight, one of the last games of the season, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Nonis and Co taking in the game as they take one last look at him, to see if they want to send him to Moose after his team gets knocked out in the first round)

That is the most awesome phrase I've seen on a mask.

Gandalf Rules and now Schnieder does too.
