Yeah, I've heard good things about him too.
CDC would go nuts for us not picking a good Canadian Kid, but I dont care.
Yeah I could care less about what most fans think. I'd rather pick the best player available than the best Canadian available. Either way I don't think Nonis will pick Eller with the Canucks first rounder.
Best CENTRE available.
I think a team should always draft the best PLAYER available. Who knows what your teams needs will be in 3-5 years. Taking an lower talent centre over a higher talent left winger makes no sense to me at all. Take the best player you can, and if, down the road when he is ready to play for you, you can always trade him for another guy who plays the position needed at that time.
Should Pittsburgh have passed on Malkin because they had Crosby already and nothing on defence? No way!
This is a different draft....
There is no superstar that you can't pass outside of the top 5.
Any player in the top 60 could go anywhere from 10-60.
This draft will be teams drafting for position just as much as skill, potential..
I understand what you are saying, but I guarantee you that in three or four years there will be a bunch of that group of #10 to #60 who will be good players, and a bunch who will be busts. The smart teams will just have to work that much harder to try to separate the wheat from the chaff. Maybe the Canucks have a lack of centres in the system, and maybe they should pick a bunch of centres with their mid to low picks (ie 4 through 7), but with 1st and 2nd round picks I believe they should go for the best talent they can find, whether that talent is a centre or even a goaltender.
Just my opinion, but talent = assets, and assets can be moved for other assets. The higher value the asset, the greater the potential return.
When you are picking 24th, you are unlikely to get a superstar. You either have to be lucky, or extremely hard working scouting wise (and lucky too).
