What kind of player do you think Raymond is?  Is he willing to go to the corner to fight for the puck?

no one can answer this question?

-Mason Raymond

Team: Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs
Position: LW
How acquired: Vancouver's 2nd choice, 51st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Scoring to date: 30 games, 13 goals, 25 assists
- Darn, I already used my Speedy nickname for Grabner, hrmmmm. Oh well, what i will tell you is Grabner has nothing on Raymond in terms of speed. Mason may just be the fastest player in the NCAA, and in the entirety of Junior Hockey. You thought Reid was fast? Pft! He crawls like a baby compared to Raymond. Because of this speed, his game is automatically boosted, some players go so fast they are unable to control the puck, but Raymond not only can control the puck superbly at top speed, but he's able to get it off his stick and put the biscuit in the basket very often. Putting up very good numbers on a horrible team speak volumes to his potential. Like Michael Grabner, his game is made for the new NHL, and above all the other prospects, I am most excited about this guy
Future: Raymond has the top-end speed, and strong play-making skills to be an elite 2nd line player, he lacks the goal scorers mentality to be a 1st line player, but if paired with the correct linemates a 1st line spot isn't too far-fetched.

^^^^Good place to start. Basically he is a skilled playmaker. I don't think anybody here has seen Raymond play enough to give a full evaluation including the little things like his play in the corners.

Will he go in the courner?...... sure. But, his #1 gift is his speed. Thus, creating plays and scoring chances on the rush are his tools. He (like all of the Canuck prospects), will have to work on their upper body strength to make them become even better players in the future.

Yeah, Edler is the man.

I think playing 25+ mins a game in Manitoba really helped his confidence.

I can definitly see Raymond in the lineup seeing as how they have lost two(right?) in a row.

Yeah and they only scored 1 goal in those two games so maybe Raymond can spark some offense.

Yeah much better than the Oilers game. Looks like his old self out there, which is very good. Now I just want to see him lay some guy out like Pyatt did last game. I know that's not really his type of game but he's HUGE. Would be nice to see him use his size and smoke somebody.

Edit: Hiroshima did you get my PM?

Also..

Ellis and the Moose get shutout by Houston 2-0. Once again Ellis gets no help up front. He made 16 saves and from what I've heard from Moose fans the second goal was weak. Too bad...

It's funny how the two sources viewed the goal

Manitoba killed off that man advantage, but Weinhandl tallied his 14th goal at 3:51 of the second to give Houston the advantage. Weinhandl took a pass from Peter Olvecky, skated across the blueline and ripped a top shelf shot from the edge of the left circle.

Mattias Weinhandl skated out into the middle of the ice from the left-hand boards and wristed a shot that fluttered into the top corner over the blocker shoulder of Ellis. The goal came at 3:51 and was assisted on by Peter Olvecky and Erik Reitz.

Mattias Weinhandl: 2nd in SEL scoring 07/08, 2nd in playoff scoring 07/08. 3rd in WC scoring in 08 & 09 only behind established NHL stars, 16 pts in 12 games in 08/09 KHL playoffs (leader had 19 pts in 21 games). Invited to 2010 Swedish Olympic team camp. He deserves another shot in the NHL................Currently LEADS the KHL in scoring, 28 points in 21 games

The WHL Playoffs are all the talk here in the Great Northwest. Lot's of debate about who will win each series. I thought I'd give you guys some stats for Grabner vs the Everett Silvertips, the Chiefs first round opponent.

10/6 kept off score sheet, goalie: Irving
10/13 hattrick, goalie: Irving
10/25 kept off score sheet, goalie: Irving
12/13 goal and assist, goalie: Reekie
1/5 assist, goalie: Reekie
2/9 kept off score sheet, goalie: Reekie
3/3 kept off score sheet, goalie: Irving
3/6 kept off score sheet, goalie: Irving

With the exception of the hat trick, Grabby has been shut down by Everett. But their d is definately keeping an eye on him when he's on the ice. It should be an interesting series to say the least. Let's hope Grabby can get hot for this one and many more to come.

Arniel coaches in a way that makes the fans hate him. But hey it works, cant argue it when your first in your conference.

Right, because benching one of your youngest players when he;s playing his best hockey of the season is great coaching. . .

Yeah that is pretty lame, but Canucks92 is right. The Moose are doing great and Arniel obviousely had something to do with that. I mean not many of us get a chance to watch either the Bulldogs or the Moose play so for all we know they could have completely different styles of play and Raymond is probably just not ready yet. Give it some time, he'll play soon.

From Moose Website:

LOOSE PUCKS: Moose RW Jesse Schultz, who has gone 11 games without scoring a goal, was taken off the power play and benched during the third period ... Moose RW Brandon Reid sat out for the fifth time in eight games since C Marc Chouinard was re-assigned by the parent Vancouver Canucks ... Speaking of the Canucks, director of player personnel Lorne Henning was in town the past few days to evaluate the talent on the roster with Moose general manager Craig Heisinger. (So he saw Hansen when he was playing well  )

Raymond news:

College all-star continues education by learning from Moose veterans
By KEN WIEBE -- Sun Media

Mason Raymond checked out of college early, so the Manitoba Moose figure they will help the speedy forward continue his education by placing his locker-room stall next to captain Mike Keane.

It may not seem like a big deal to some but make no mistake, it's no accident the newest addition to one of the hottest teams in the American Hockey League is seated beside a three-time Stanley Cup winner.

"It's definitely an experience. To be able to sit beside a guy who has got that on his resume is something else," said Raymond, who signed an amateur tryout offer with the Moose on Monday.

Raymond, who was the Vancouver Canucks second-round (51st overall) pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, is looking forward to getting his professional career started after spending two successful seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.

"It came together quite quickly," said Raymond. "I'm excited about the upcoming challenge."

Raymond was one of those slightly off-the-radar selections by the Canucks after they watched him produce 41 goals and 82 points to help the Camrose Kodiaks win the Alberta Junior Hockey League title and advance to the final of the Royal Bank Cup.

Since that time, the 6-foot, 170-pound left-winger from Calgary racked up 25 goals and 74 points in 79 NCAA games and perhaps equally important, added 10-to-15 pounds of muscle to his frame. (He is now 182)

"It's key to not get knocked off the puck," said Raymond, who had 14 goals and 46 points in 39 games this year and was named to the WCHA first all-star team. "I like to think of myself as a well-rounded player, but there's always room for improvement. To be able to come here and be part of this team, there are really no words to describe it. It's an honour.

"I was looked upon at Duluth to be a go-to guy, but hopefully I can get in the lineup here and help out any way that I can."

Moose head coach Scott Arniel got a glimpse of Raymond the past few days and don't be surprised if the youngster gets into the lineup some time this weekend against the Grand Rapids Griffins. (They play them Friday)

"I know that he can skate and he's got some good size to him," said Arniel. "We've heard lots of good things about his competitiveness and about him going into traffic to score goals."
