Schultz and Jaffray with goals for the Moose so far, 2-0 after one.

Edler's a +1 with 2 SOG. Hansen isn't in the lineup.

Godamnit, Hansen better still have the flu and be an unhealthy scratch.

I'm on an Oliver Stone hunch here, but could it be Nonis protecting him from injury before February 27th? Is there even precedence for scratching minor leaguers before d-day, or am I wearing a tinfoil hat right about now?

Can't spell Kesler without Selke.

Slapyourself if you think Kesler will score 25+ goals, he just doesn't have the offensive skill.

No, I don't see him getting traded, he was the teams last cut this year and should challenge for a spot next year.

I hope so. Even though I'm a member of the Cult of Reid, I liked what I saw from Schultz when he came up.

According to some posters on the Moose forum Hansen does in fact have the flu. Nothing to be worried about I'm sure.

I was just watching Peter Bondra's 5-goal game in '93-'94. I wonder if Grabner will be anything like Bondra. Peter was 23 when he "broke out". Pure natural goal-scorer. Anyone else see some similarity there?

I agree, Schultz deserves another chance. He never got the chance like Moran and Reid had, by playing with Markus Naslund.

Found an interview with Grabner after being drafted, don't know if this has been posted yet.

Saturday, June 24, 2006

Entry 20: Interview with Michael Grabner

Michael Grabner answered these quick questions after being picked 14th by the Vancouver Canucks.

Q: Did your Dad play hockey?

Michael Grabner: No one played hockey in my family.

Q: How did you end up playing hockey?

Michael Grabner: My mom introduced me to hockey when I was five years old because I was living right next to the arena and I wanted to do some sport

Q: What about skiing, are you a skier too?

Michael Grabner: I skied when I was young. I haven't skied since I was 6, dangerous with hockey.

Q: So your mom took you over to the rink and that's how you started playing?

Michael Grabner: Yes, she brought me over there first practice and then my dad got into it too, came to all the games and stuff.

Q: What's the hockey system like in Austria? Is it small? Are there a lot of players in the system now?

Michael Grabner: It is getting very big and all. Last year in Cheloca there was like 40 NHL players there and it's a great compromise hockey is getting very big too now.

Q: Which NHL player do you think your most like style wise?

Michael Grabner: I would want to be like Ovechkin. I like the scoring plays and he's fast, and he has such passionate plays. That's why I want to be like Ovechkin.

Q: You can score goals from your back?

Michael Grabner: Yeah. Not really

Q: What does it feel like to put that jersey on?

Michael Grabner: It's a really good goal that I had been working for my whole life. I love this jersey and hopefully I will use it when I play.

Q: Do you have any teammates who are from Vancouver?

Michael Grabner: Yes, Jason Lynch, Mercer, Jeff Lynch…that's about it

Q: Through your time in Vancouver, what do you think of it as a hockey town?

Michael Grabner: I think it's a great hockey town and its good weather, a great city, good fans here. I always enjoyed coming here when I came here with the Chiefs and we always had some fun here. It's a great city.

I was just thinkin' that (from what little highlights I've actually seen) his stride looks kinda like Bondra's. He has the same frame as Bondra (6'1" and slim looking). He's known to get tons of breakaways just as Bondra did. He scores in a large variety of ways, as did Bondra. He comes from an obscure hockey market, as was the case with communist Czechoslovakia. He appears to have some internal fire, much like Bondra did.

Grabner's 19-year old season is eerily similar to Bondra's 20-yr old. Mind you, Bondra was probably playing against men but it is still fun to dream...

(A little lazy to scroll through 10+ pages... Especially going on 3am)

well there is a bunch of scenerios that could occur. As far as first pro showcase with the Moose it could be a lot sooner than you think. Grabner and Bourdon "could" see time with the moose if either of their teams are eliminated from the playoffs as soon as end of March.

As far as Schneider it ain't happening anytime soon, even if he commits to the Moose next year he's going to be there for at least 2 seasons. He's not going to sit as Loungo's back-up making 12 starts a season. He'll be making 55-60 in the AHL.

Thanks to mr7 for the sig

Depends on what exactly you're question is. When you say

Quote

and company
you mean the Canucks "higher end prospects"... no?.

Anyways. If were talking prospects in a Nuck jersey for a WHOLE season next year. I only see

Hansen
Bourdon
Edler

with the possiblity of sticking next season.

If were talking a prospect playing 5-10 games with the Canucks.:

Grabner
Simek
Raymond (If he leaves NCAA early EX. Kesler)

Maybe: Getting 5-10 Games
Sergei Shirokov (already playing against men)
Daniel Rahimi (already playing against men)
It IS confirmed that he will be coming over to the Moose next season, actually according to Nonis he will be in the Moose lineup BY THE END OF THIS SEASON, or how far his team goes in the playoffs, then come join the Moose.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Cory play his last year in the NCAA, then turning Pro in 2008-2009.

My Moose prediction for 2007-2008

Grabner
Simek
Daniel Rahimi
Raymond (Quote me on this one  )
Sergei Shirokov*Will he or won't he come to NA?*

On the Edge:
Edler or Bourdon

I have a feeling only ONE Rookie D will make the Canuck opening day roster. Only because development wise, Nonis stated before Luc was sent back, that they would have kept him all season but, he would be put in a limited roll with around 9-10 min of ice a game. So I'll assume they wanted to put Luc (and I'll assume Edler next year) in a top 5 role with more Ice for their development) Next years D would look something like this. IN NO ORDER....

Mattias Ohlund Bourdon/Edler (put a Rookie with a vet)

Kevin Bieksa Willie Mitchell (Shutdown pair)

Lukas Krajicek or Kiril Koltsov S. Salo or UFA

(With Lukas's play in the last 30 games, I could see the Nucks taking a gamble on Koltsov)

*7th D-man Fitz... ect ect ect

- They say that everything happens for a reason - I'm still waiting - They say the good die young - I guess that's why you were chosen -
