MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- Jannik Hansen has found another gear and it couldn't have come at a better time for the Manitoba Moose.
Several weeks ago, it appeared that Hansen had hit the wall and was left searching for answers.
But during the past seven American Hockey League games, the rookie forward from Denmark is enjoying a resurgence, the most recent example coming Sunday when he scored the tying goal on the power play against the Grand Rapids Griffins that allowed the Moose to force overtime and eventually win in a shootout.
"It's always nice to play a little bit more and to see the puck go in is a good feeling," said Hansen, who sits seventh in team scoring with 11 goals and 32 points in 65 games. "I don't know if I feel better. I really don't know how to put it in words. It just seems like during the past couple of games, it's been coming together a little more than it was earlier."
Whatever the secret, whether it was a recent visit from his parents and sister or coming to the realization that he'd have to elevate his game or risk watching from the stands as a healthy scratch, Hansen has been playing some of his best hockey of the season.
"Of course it was frustrating, but I knew that coming into this year would be a little different and I wouldn't be a go-to guy," said Hansen. "You can't take any nights off. In junior, you could get away with it and still have a decent game, but here if you have a night off, you really notice it."
Hansen, who had seven goals and 13 points in 12 Western Hockey League playoff games with the Portland Winter Hawks last season, can't wait for the post-season party to begin.
"I just want to keep up my play and be as ready as possible for the playoffs," said Hansen, who went through a season-long 16-game goal-less drought before scoring twice in his past four games. "That's when the real season starts. It's what every player looks forward to."
Moose head coach Scott Arniel said recently that young guys like Hansen have given his team a boost during the arduous schedule.
"He's been one of our top forwards and he's been getting the extra ice because he's earned it," said Arniel. "He's pushing people back with his speed, he's being creative and he's making things happen.
"He looks real refreshed and he's back to where he was at the beginning of the year. I like the game that he's playing and he's put some consistency into his game, where before he had the ups and downs. It's a good time of the year for him to get on a bit of a roll. He's a guy who we're going to count on for some offence."
