It says that Schneider is the 2nd best goalie prospect in the world. Is Tuuka Rask number one?

price is up there...

irving is gonna be good

and that rangers prospect goalie is good too

i would rank schneider top 5, maybe top 3.. but i'm being a homer

Irving's stats are overrated because he plays on a defensive powerhouse.

Grabner Named BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week
Created: Feb 20, 2007
Calgary - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Michael Grabner of the Spokane Chiefs.

Grabner earned player of the week honours by recording six goals in three games during the week of February 12th to February 18th, helping Spokane to a 1-1-1 record in that span.

On Wednesday, February 14th, Grabner notched two goals, including the shorthanded game-winner, in a 4-3 victory over the Blazers in Kamloops. He was also named the game's 1st star.

On Friday, February 16th, Grabner scored a hat trick, including two power play goals, as the Chiefs dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Thunderbirds in Seattle. He was also named the game's 1st star.

On Saturday, February 17th, Grabner scored one goal - a power play marker - as the Chiefs fell 6-3 to the Kootenay Ice in Spokane.

Grabner, a 19-year-old product of Villach, Austria, was the Vancouver Canucks' 1st round pick (14th overall) at the 2006 NHL draft.

The WHL has also nominated Carey Price of the Tri-City Americans for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week award.

My source on Bourdon:

So far, Luc Bourdon hasn't been anything overly special as a Cape Breton
Screaming Eagle.  He hasn't been BAD, but so far he hasn't really done
anything that a lot of other much less expensive defencemen around the
league couldn't have done had we acquired them instead.

As for the lack of flashy offensive numbers, I think that's because we
acquired him more to play a shutdown type role than anything else.  We
already have successful offensive defencemen in JC Sawyer (2nd in league in
defenseman points) and Flyers' prospect Oskars Bartulis, so we needed
Bourdon for his physical play and shutdown ability more than we needed him
to quarterback any powerplays and put up a ton of points.  That said, you'd
think he'd have a few more points than he has, wouldn't you?  We tried him
quite a bit on the powerplay, but it never seemed to produce any results to
speak of.  And his +/- has been only "even" since coming here I
think............... it was a +17 in just 13 games in Moncton.  He's been a
steady defensive defenceman and all, but he hasn't been the impact star we
were hoping for.

On the plus side, he eats up a lot of ice time, and this really takes a lot
of pressure off of Sawyer and Bartulis.......... I billet Sawyer, and he
confided in me that he was starting to wear down before we acquired Bourdon,
because he was playing almost 40 minutes a game and it was just too much.
The acquistion of Bourdon has helped Sawyer and Bartulis in that regard.  JC
continues to counter my doubts that trading for Bourdon wasn't a good idea,
and keeps vouching for him that we had to pick him up.  He pointed out that
"When was the last time a team scored more than three goals on us?"  I
thought about it, and he has a point - most games we only allow 1 or 2.
However, I still hold my doubts that we really needed to trade blue-chipper
Mark Barberio for this player who's not exactly lighting the world on fire
since we got him.

Bourdon is quietly playing a shutdown role, and I guess our recent reduction
in goals against may indicate that he's doing that job better than most fans
seem to think right now, although a lot of that also has to do with the
re-emergence of our star goaltender, Thrashers' prospect Ondrej Pavelec, who
has been playing unbelievably in the 2nd half after a pretty mediocre first
half.

I guess that all in all, I'd call him a mild disappointment so far.  I was
going to consider him a significant disappointment so far until JC pointed
out the fact that (1) he's taken a lot of pressure off of himself and
Bartulis (2) our goals against has improved significantly since we acquired
Bourdon.

Our team has been up and down lately.......... winning huge games against
fellow contenders (including three against first-overall Lewiston), yet
losing games to bottom-feeders.  It's kind of weird seeing us trailing by
one goal late in a game against a bottom feeder type team like Saint John or
Rimouski, having Bourdon out there in the final minute....... this big "NHL
guy"........... and him not being able to help tie the game up.

I don't know, he's been just OK so far.......... although I guess the jury's
kind of out until the playoffs.  But I have a bad feeling we're going to
regret this trade.

So yeah, in summary........... steady defensive presence so far, but not the
star we hoped (and paid) for.

What part of shutdown defenceman does your source have trouble understanding??? As for there star goalie play better ... ?? Could it be a good shutdown defenceman really help a goalie out. Bourdon has been given a job to do on the team and it sure sounds like he is doing it !!!

Just my $.02 worth.

its not that he isn't doing his job..

it sounds like ppl expected more form bourdon, offensively. He hasn't delivered as advertised... Nonetheless, it nice to hear hes working on his defensive game, but its a shame he hasn't been putting up the numbers

Meh. I'm not so concerned about the offense. I just want the speedster who crushes people and has a good shot from point. He's in a shutdown role, focusing all his energy on defense and is even strength. That means his team isn't being outscored by the oppositions top players when he's on the ice. That's a good thing. He's gonna need a bunch of time in the AHL to properly develop though.

Overall if he can come up here and be a speedy version of Ohlund with a nastier edge, that's all I'm asking for. His offense will come around in his mid-to-late 20's, imo, when he learns angles and what he can and cannot do with his speed.

Grabner will get an 9 game trial period probably, or make the team. Bourdon either will make the team or go to AHL. Simek, not sure. Shirokov probably will go to the moose.

He will get the 9 game tryout, if he can play as a top-six forward, then he will most likely stay...if not then he' going to the Moose.

I hope when they try him out, he'd be with "good quality" linemates... Not like, plug him in the 4th line, with 6 minutes a game, no PP time, and hope he becomes a star player. :?

you'd think the Vancouver Media/Papers would devote even a minute to recognizing this, but nope, who wants to hear good things about prospects? Lets stick with the negatives so people call into the Team 1040 calling Grabner a bust and that he should be traded while he has any value.

(A little lazy to scroll through 10+ pages... Especially going on 3am)

Depends on what exactly you're question is. When you say

Quote

and company
you mean the Canucks "higher end prospects"... no?.

Anyways. If were talking prospects in a Nuck jersey for a WHOLE season next year. I only see

Hansen
Bourdon
Edler

with the possiblity of sticking next season.

If were talking a prospect playing 5-10 games with the Canucks.:

Grabner
Simek
Raymond (If he leaves NCAA early EX. Kesler)

Maybe: Getting 5-10 Games
Sergei Shirokov (already playing against men)
Daniel Rahimi (already playing against men)
It IS confirmed that he will be coming over to the Moose next season, actually according to Nonis he will be in the Moose lineup BY THE END OF THIS SEASON, or how far his team goes in the playoffs, then come join the Moose.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Cory play his last year in the NCAA, then turning Pro in 2008-2009.

My Moose prediction for 2007-2008

Grabner
Simek
Daniel Rahimi
Raymond (Quote me on this one  )
Sergei Shirokov*Will he or won't he come to NA?*

On the Edge:
Edler or Bourdon

I have a feeling only ONE Rookie D will make the Canuck opening day roster. Only because development wise, Nonis stated before Luc was sent back, that they would have kept him all season but, he would be put in a limited roll with around 9-10 min of ice a game. So I'll assume they wanted to put Luc (and I'll assume Edler next year) in a top 5 role with more Ice for their development) Next years D would look something like this. IN NO ORDER....

Mattias Ohlund Bourdon/Edler (put a Rookie with a vet)

Kevin Bieksa Willie Mitchell (Shutdown pair)

Lukas Krajicek or Kiril Koltsov S. Salo or UFA

(With Lukas's play in the last 30 games, I could see the Nucks taking a gamble on Koltsov)

*7th D-man Fitz... ect ect ect

- They say that everything happens for a reason - I'm still waiting - They say the good die young - I guess that's why you were chosen -

I think they had a mini article in The Province (as big as the Grabner being benched article) last Sunday about him coming back with all those goals after being called out in public.

But yes, more attention to the good things our prospects do would be better... :|
