It's official Bourdon vs Letang in Q semi finals now. That should be a very interesting match up to say the least.

Nielsen has yet to suit up for the NYI in the playoffs, but is the first dane to play in an NHL regular season game.

Hansen is the first dane to play in the playoffs.

Actually, I don't think Hansen is the first Dane in a Canucks uniform. DOn't quote however, but I was certain it was mentioned on sportsnet a while back.

It's a good thing these young guys are getting some games in before the end of the season because it's obvious that the transition to pro hockey is a slow process. Raymond has the speed and talent to contribute offensively but he will need to improve his strength and all around play before he dominates like he can in with the Moose. Grabner will need to do what Hansen did and focus on his defensive play for the first part of the season before getting some solid ice time. And Rahimi will just need to get some North American hockey experience. When you look at how much guys like Edler and Hansen have developed after one year it's obvious that if Grabner, Raymond, Rahimi, Simek?, Shirokov? etc. are able to get in a full year with the Moose we could soon have an abundance of young guys ready to step in and contribute for the Canucks.

BTW: Hansen looked great last night eh? Didn't know he had that kind of speed and even though it was his first game all season he didn't look too out of place. He won't be replacing Pyatt, he just doesn't have the experience to do that, but I see nothing wrong with throwing him on the third line. Seems like I've been proven wrong, Hansen looks like he could step in as a regular next season.

If Hansen plays at that level consistantly we STOLE him in that draft. I was at the game and noticed him everytime on the ice and it wasn't give aways I was noticing. Hansen will be playing with Kesler next year for sure. Cooke Kesler Hansen would be a sick fast line.

I for one really hope Kesler is back next year, as he is my favourite player. You believe he will be?, and why exactly, and is there something to do with the CBA where he must get paid equal to or greater than his current salary? thanks!!!!!!!!

I think there was a guy called Popiel who was born in Denmark but became an American citizen before he played.

You are correct.

Poul Popiel is a retired NHL defenceman, and head coach, born on February 28, 1943 in Sollested, Denmark. . He played in the OHA, AHL, WHA, NHL, CPHL, and IHL. He played a brief 12 games in the IHL with the Muskegon Mohawks, then halfway through the year, he retired and became the head coach. He was the first player along with Garry Peters to win the Ken McKenzie Trophy (In 1963-64.) He weighs 176 lbs, is 5'10 and shoots left.

Popiel was in the news briefly in early 2007. The New York Islanders recalled Frans Nielsen and he made his NHL debut on January 6th. At the time of his recall, the Islanders believed that Nielsen would be the first Danish-born player to play in the NHL. It turned out that Popiel had him beat -- by about forty years. Popiel had become an American citizen prior to his debut, however, leaving Nielsen with the honor of being the first Danish citizen to appear in an NHL game.

Trade Bieksa? Not even if it was a one for one deal for a guy like Ovechkin. And I am being serious. Linden53

As the previous poster explained, Popiel was the first Danish-born player in the NHL.
But the announcers on TV were actually talking about Danish-trained players.
Popiel was born in Denmark but grew up in North America and learned hockey here.
Most of the people on this forum don't seem to understand that "they're", "their" and "there" are not interchangeable. Is this not taught in school anymore?

Do you not lose your Citizenship when you become a Citizen of another Country. Unless he got dual Citizenship, and only then would he be considered a Citizen of Denmark.

Whether you lose your citizenship is country dependent, for example you don't lose your Canadian citizenship when you become a citizen in another country but there are countries that take it away.

Alexander Vincent had a great training camp with the Nucks. I wonder what happened. He sounded like he was going to be Luongo part 2 and way better than Ellis. Sucks that his skills could be wasted.

Yeah its a real shame, still hoping he gets a chance with at least an ECHL team next season or that we trade him for a forward prospect.

Quick update from Moose fans on the play of the new additions..

Grabner: Played conservatively in Game 1. Stepped it up a bit in game two and even though he looks a bit out of place right now, the general consensus is that he has played well up to this point.

Rahimi: Made his mark with his crushing hits. I have a feeling his hits will be his defining factor. Moose fan are VERY impressed with his physical play. His hockey sense will develop over time.

Raymond: This kids got talent. He will dominate next year, no doubt about it. Right now though he just isn't strong enough. He's getting knocked around by the big boys and will need to bulk up come offseason.

Overall smooth transitions by the prospects.
