Hansen's growing up so fast. Posted Image Throwing big hits!

He's been huge this series, great with Bulis.

Too bad he couldn't get that breakaway though.

Yeah. But, even though he couldn't get the breakaway.. he knew he couldnt' get it, so he stopped and made a sweet pass instead.

Traded for Josef Balej last season and is now playing in Europe. Balej is also playing in Europe but Canucks still own his rights.

Hansen was very solid tonight, I am actually surprised how well HE IS playing to be honest.

Manitoba 1 Grand Rapids 0

Highlight

REEL

FIRST PERIOD

Much like a bad first date. No scoring, very little contact and a couple of holding calls.

Manitoba 0 / Grand Rapids 0

SECOND PERIOD

The game begins to tilt in Manitoba's favour but they can't find a way to beat Griffs goalie Jimmy Howard. Moose rookie Mason Raymond finds his stride and creates a number of scoring chances. He's Manitoba's best player through two periods.

Manitoba 0 / Grand Rapids 0

THIRD PERIOD

The Moose have relied on Brad Moran, Lee Goren and Jason Jaffray all season and once again the Line with No Name came through. Big Goren, a Winnipegger who learned the game on our city's outdoor rinks, charges into the zone and takes a pass from Yannick Tremblay and one-times it past Howard.

Manitoba 1 / Grand Rapids 0

ICE CHIPS

Sitting Smitty

Rookie Jannik Hansen played for the Vancouver Canucks last night against the Dallas Stars but centre Nathan Smith was in the press box for the second night in a row. Smith was one of Manitoba's best players all year and is a proven playoff performer. If he's not going to play in Vancouver, ship him back to the Moose. Smith won't say it but we'll say it for him: he'd rather play here than sit there.

New rules?

What rules?

Despite a crackdown on interference and obstruction at the NHL level, the one-referee system used in the AHL was on display at it's inadequate worst on Thursday night. Referee Francois St. Laurent granted just nine power plays. The front of the net resembled a war zone and there was lots of water-skiing in the neutral zone.

Howard vs. MacIntrye round 1

The team's starting goalies, Manitoba's Drew MacIntrye and Howard of the Griffins, were teammates last season in Grand Rapids. Howard had more work but MacIntrye was perfect. Round 1 to P.E.I.'s MacIntyre, who was brilliant in the game's dying seconds to preserve the win.

Next

Grand Rapids at Manitoba, Saturday at MTS Centre, 7:30 p.m. (CJOB).

I wonder how long Smith is going to sit with the Canucks? Until Cooke gets back I guess. I think Smith looked solid in his role but I'd like to see him play some more.

More importantly he's shutdown the other team's top forwards, and has been a complete menace for the other team to play against.

PG scoring just got changed. . . Fuller now credited with a goal: a tip on a Wishart blue-line wrist-shot
