Nope he's gone. He's a UFA this off-season.

What mb said, there is no chance we can trade him.

Teams will just wait for July 1st then try to sign him for nothing instead of trading assets to us.

So we will be drafting 23rd overall this year, right?

We should get 2 very good prospects in this year’s draft.

Bourdon to Manitoba 100% Official:

http://www.canucks.c...s...D=31&id=717

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that defenceman Luc Bourdon has been assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Bourdon, 20, has played in nine games with the Canucks this season prior to being returned to the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on November 8th, 2006. The 6’2”, 211 lbs. defenceman appeared in 13 games with the Moncton Wildcats, registering 14 points (3-11-14) and 28 penalty minutes, before being acquired by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. With Cape Breton, Bourdon appeared in 23 regular season games, notching six points (1-5-6) and 45 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 16 playoff games with the Screaming Eagles, registering 13 points (2-11-13) and 28 penalty minutes.

Bourdon also played in his second consecutive IIHF Under-20 World Championships, netting four points (2-2-4) and six penalty minutes in six games, winning his second straight gold medal with Team Canada.

The Shippagan, New Brunswick-native was Vancouver’s 1st choice, 10th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Acquired: Vancouver's 1st choice, 10th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Skill: Possesses a heavy accurate slap shot that has been clocked at 92 MPH. Plays with intensity at times.

Scouting Report: At first glance this New Brunswick native appears to be everything you look for in a defenceman with good size and strength to go along with fantastic mobility. His puck movement skills are solid and he make a good first pass to start the rush, equally adept in transition on a turnover. His downfall is gambling to push a play instead of making a safer decision. The main weapon in his game is his exceptional skating ability. Displays good leadership ability and will go to war for any of his teammates. Excels at dishing out physical punishment.

The forum has gone retarded.

They think we have cap room to go get high profile UFA's or trade for amazing young players.

The trade Schnieder threads came back in record time.

The only reason the Schnieder threads have come up is because people are packing him in with an overpaid player like Morrison to make the deal more acceptable. Not going to happen though unless Nonis is a genius and does the unexpected again. Keep Schneider for now, his value will only go up and is always a good back-up plan in case something unexpected happens with Luie (hey, its possible, who thought Naslund would decline this fast? I know Luie isn't like Naslund in terms of competitiveness, but you never know).

There has been a lot of talk lately about which prospects will make the big club next season. IMO we need as many prospects as possible to be capable of stepping in. If you look around the league, the teams that are doing well are the ones with cheap young guys. Edler, Hansen, Bourdon and Raymond need to be able to step up and bring something to next years club.

Doubt he'd still be available when it's our turn.

Does anyone have a scouting report for brandon Sutter?
Would be nice have a hard working canadian kid coming up in the system. but does he have any skill? would he maybe be able to play with Sedin's?

Also I know everyone say's we need centers but what about using our first pick to get a solid right handed power forward to play with the Sedin's?

A great Bourdon article:

Wild journey continues for Bourdon

Luc Bourdon is ready for the latest spin on the roller-coaster of emotions.

When it's all said and done, the 2006-07 season will go down as a wild ride for Bourdon, the 20-year-old defenceman who is available tonight when the Manitoba Moose continue the AHL Calder Cup playoffs against the Hamilton Bulldogs in the opening game of the best-of-seven North Division final.

Bourdon, the Canucks' first-round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, outlasted Patrick Coulombe for the final spot on the roster out of training camp and appeared in nine games before returning to junior hockey.

Although the demotion was tough to deal with at the time, Bourdon understands it was the best thing for him.

"Overall, I improved a lot," said Bourdon, who skated at Gateway SportsPlex for about 20 minutes with Moose assistant Brad Berry yesterday afternoon. "I had a chance to play on a good team and I had a big role too, so that's always good for the confidence."

Bourdon, a 6-2, 199-pounder from Shippagan, New Brunswick, Note: WTF did they states come from, Cape has him listed at 6"3 21. World Junior weight was 211 6"3.

....worked hard to improve his play in the defensive zone this season and the results have been noticeable.

"Being in the plus was my goal and I achieved that this year. It was really big for me," said Bourdon, who helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Hockey Championship. "I wasn't really looking at points, it was about taking care of my own zone. Some people say I don't hit as much as I used to but I don't put myself out of position anymore.

"At this level, I don't think my offensive impact is going to be as big as in junior. I don't want to try and do too much. It's not junior anymore, I just want to do what I do best." An ankle injury limited him to 36 regular season games, but Bourdon is feeling fully healthy and had two goals and 13 points in 16 playoff contests.

Bourdon was assigned to the Moose yesterday, since the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles were eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs on Tuesday after a Game 7 loss to Val d'Or.

Moose head coach Scott Arniel wasn't about to divulge his lineup but there's a good chance Bourdon will suit up for at least one of the games this weekend against the Bulldogs.

"The big thing about him is his size and his mobility. He has great feet on him and he likes to be physical and bang bodies," said Arniel, who had a chance to work with Bourdon during Canucks' rookie camp. "He's a competitive kid and he has all the tools."

It's really nice to hear that he is aware of his weaknesses and is working hard to improve them. I'm sure that if he focuses on his positional game and staying tight defensively, the offense will come naturally. And just look at those playoff stats. He elevated his game when it counted most. I'm very optimistic about bourdon's developement.

Left Handed Right Winger

seems to me after watching the playoffs the Sedin's can't do it on they're own. They need a 3rd.

Sutter is said to be much more skilled offensively than his father and uncle(s) but with that defensive ability as well. I can see him being taken between 11-20 for sure.

6'3 185 pound RH Centre.

Akim Aliu has a big attitude problem, he has left his team twice (not a team player). I would leave him until the 3rd round.

Brett Maclean, keep in mind that this kid was the winger for one 16 year old phenom named John Tavares, but he seems to have good individual skill as well. Should be a 1st rounder/late 2nd

The thing you don't seem to understand is that we aren't just going to draft a player this year to play with the Sedins the following year, prospects take 2-3 seasons to get into the lineup unless they are a superstar #1 overall pick (Like Crosby, Nash, etc.)

Powerforwards typically take even longer to develop.

We need Centres (Rypien is our top Centre) and we need them to fill the (future) void of Morrison and Henrik. That and being strong down the middle never hurts.

We will not being getting the Sedins a linemate in this draft, we will find one in UFA or someone who emerges in camp (my money is on Hansen).

And Nationality should not matter, we need the best Centre available, we can get some gap toothed Canadian through free agency if need be.
