WTH:

"Moose close down fan message board
Moose defender eats up playoffs

by Tim Campbell, Winnipeg Free Press
TORONTO -- In the interests of good taste, not to mention trying to nip a potential playoff series distraction in the bud, the Manitoba Moose have pulled the plug on the fan comment message board on their Internet website.

The action was taken late Thursday because of racially insensitive comments and graphics posted by anonymous users.

The Moose are in the middle of the North Division final against the Hamilton Bulldogs, the top farm team of the Montreal Canadiens. The offensive items on the Moose fan bulletin board concerned the Bulldogs and some of their French-Canadian personnel.

Moose director of corporate communications and hockey operations Scott Brown said late Thursday that once the team's web staff were alerted to the items Thursday, quick action was taken to shut down the bulletin board indefinitely.

"It's there for our fans to express opinions and share information," Brown said Thursday night. "It's unfortunate that at times, a few people have stepped over the line of proper conduct."

The fan forum link on the Moose website, as of Thursday night, produced this statement, signed by Brown: "Due to highly racially insensitive comments made in this forum in the past week, activity on the www.moosehockey.com message board has been suspended. We at the Manitoba Moose and True North Sports & Entertainment Ltd. sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been offended by these comments. The opinions expressed on the message board in no way reflect those held by the Manitoba Moose or True North Sports & Entertainment Ltd."

I didn't see anything related to " racially insensitive comments and graphics" but I have looked at those boards in the past two days. Maybe Arniel couldn't handle all of the bashing he was getting. :P

Big article on Raymond (who FYI needs a freaking nickname)

Itchy trigger finger

Manitoba rookie anxious to score his first playoff goal
By KEN WIEBE -- Sun Media

TORONTO -- Mason Raymond is finally on the board.

Raymond, the youngster who joined the Manitoba Moose late in the AHL season after completing two years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, is still searching for his first playoff goal, but he picked up his first point on Tuesday, using his blazing speed to drive the net and get a good shot off.

Captain Mike Keane buried the rebound through the five-hole of Carey Price and Raymond got the primary assist to snap a 12-game pointless drought.

LONG TIME COMING

"It's been a while. Probably the longest streak I've had," said Raymond, who now has two goals and five points in 21 games with the Moose including the playoffs. "It's in the back of your mind, but ultimately you don't want to put that pressure on yourself, I guess. To get the first one, it feels like it's been a long time coming. Our line has been getting chances and finally one was put in, so it's definitely a sigh of relief."

Moose head coach Scott Arniel believes that getting a point will be a weight off Raymond's shoulders.

"I'm sure he's just dying to get that goal and hopefully he gets it soon," said Arniel. "He's been a guy that's created so many scoring chances for himself and his linemates. It's nice to see him get an assist.

"You watch him in practice and he scores a lot. He's got a great shot. I think he's just maybe pressing a little too much right now. It will come."

As for the goal itself, Arniel marveled at the youngster's speed through all three zones.

"His speed from the top of the circles in our end to the top of the circle in their end is some of the fastest I've seen," said Arniel. "He blew by the back-checker and he blew by the defenceman. Give Brandon Reid credit, he made a great pass and saw him coming late to use his outside speed.

"Right from the get-go, you recognize his speed. It's the first thing that jumps out at you."

Because of Raymond's skating ability and finish around the net, it shouldn't be long until he gets his first playoff goal.

"I hope so," said Raymond, a second round choice (51st overall) of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. "It was an aim for me to get back on the scoresheet and back on that train."

BACK TO WORK: Arniel put the Moose through an up-tempo, 50-minute practice yesterday at Lakeshore Lions Arena, the practice facility of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The head coach was asked what he thought about having three days in between games three and four?

"It's a little longer than you'd like but we've got a busy stretch coming up," said Arniel, referring to the potential of three games in three days, plus travel and four in five nights if the series goes the distance.

I wasn't being an ed, pantywaist.

I honestly didn't know what the requirements were, hence I was asking in a thread where there are people who know more about this sort of stuff would be able to answer it.

There. Go hyperventilate into a paper bag now.

EDIT: And I go for Raygun for Raymond. Sounds phonetically the same, and it plays up to his ability as a goal scorer. ;p

Anything BUT Rayzor, etc. XD Both Ray Emery and Andrew Raycroft have that already. :(

(Unless, maybe you spell it like "Ray-zer" so it's like "Racer" ... get it?

...

kidding kidding, I've never been good with this nickname business)

Why are we 26th? isn't that under the old system?

Under the new system, the bottom 16 are done by how well they do in the playoffs.

Wow, Edmonton has 3 1st rounders

Me think they'll dump one for a defenseman

Razor is ok, he's quick and sharp so it suits him.

I'm still confused on the Canucks Draft picks for this year:

http://www.canucks.c...p?sectionID=822

1st Round Pick (VAN)
2nd Round Pick (VAN/ANA/LA - One of the three second round picks was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks as compensation for the club signing Randy Carlyle (who was under contract with the Canucks) and advancing past the first round of the playoffs in 2006. An additional second round pick was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings on July 5th, 2006 along with a conditional draft pick in 2009 in exchange for G Dan Cloutier.)
5th Round Pick (VAN)
5th Round Pick (ATL - Acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers on June 14th, 2006 along with F Tommi Santala)
6th Round Pick (VAN)
7th Round Pick (VAN)

So we have how many 2nd round picks/ which ones/ do we have a 5th round pick?.

Pls, no more soft swedish players.

I know the puckbunnies love them, but we're trying to win the a cup not a beauty pageant.

Let me get this straight. First, you b!tch and moan that Kesler is all grit - no finish and players like him suck in the playoffs. Then you turn around and diss on a Swede who has scored 10 goals in his last 18 playoff games?! WTF is wrong with you?

As for the topic on hand, who we draft this year, I say we should start stacking up on huge forwards. We need a few centres this draft and I want some 6'2", 210lb'ers (or bigger) that can skate. Brandon Sutter fits our new found hockey philosophy and that Veillieux kid sounds like a behemoth. Those are my two wishlist acquisitions.
QUOTE (Tripwyre)
Can't spell Kesler without Selke.

Slapyourself if you think Kesler will score 25+ goals, he just doesn't have the offensive skill.
