Ain't. Gonna. Happen.

He's goin' top three, if not #1. Besides, he's 170lbs, like 17 or something and at least 4 years away from NHL ready. We'd have to give a ton to get him.

52 RUSNAK, ONDREJ SVK U20 BRATISLAVA 25-Feb-89 6´3 185 C L

What about these guys (besides Gilles)? Anyone know much?

Gillies won't be an offensive player in the NHL. But he is fast and he hits HARD.
Veilleux is an above average skater for his size and has soft hands. He doesn't use his size and isn't really and intense player which is why he dropped a bit in the draft rankings.
O'brien played on the fourth line for most of the season with Minnesota so he's kind of a mystery.

As for Sweatt, yeah he's fast, but he isn't really an offensive player.

EDIT: The more I read about MacMillan the more I seem to like him. He seems to play a very similar game to Eller in that he's an all around player. Not to mention we may be able to pick him up with our first rounder without trading up.

Look at what Marc Staal has accomplished this season

"Also look at the honors he's received this year, Named the OHL defensemen of the year, named to the 1st OHL All-star team, and is the first player in history to receive the playoff MVP award on the team that lost in the finals. "

Saw this on the HFboards

I know man its hurting, its hurting real bad.

The pain would be so much worse if Edler didn't break out like he did.

A couple interesting quotes from the Winnipeg press:

Quote

In the coming off-season, the Moose/Canucks have just 13 players under contract for next year out of the 31 present on Monday. Several key players are among the free agents, including Wade Flaherty, Drew MacIntyre, Tremblay, Keane, Goren, Brad Moran, Jason Jaffray, Prestin Ryan and Maxime Fortunus.

Quote

HOMEWARD BOUND: Veteran defenceman Yannick Tremblay said he was unsure whether he would play in North America or go back to Europe next season.

He plans to head home to Montreal and clear his mind before deciding on a contract.

"I still have the passion to play, I know that," said Tremblay.

I thought Tremblay is signed for one more year, (didn't he sign in April or something like that?

I would suppose the players under contract are:
Bourdon
Edler
Raymond
Hansen
Grabner
Rahimi
Coulombe
Heshka
McIver
Ellis
Guenette, Francois-Pierre
Genoway
???

Quote

Despite being responsible for what will be a combined age of 79 years at the end of this month, don't look for the elder statesmen of the Manitoba Moose to be planning a retirement party any time soon.

Goalie Wade Flaherty and captain Mike Keane both re-iterated yesterday that they hoped to play again next season. Whether or not they will be back in antlers remains to be seen.

Showing the enthusiasm and mettle of a guy who simply loves the game, Keane showed up at the MTS Centre yesterday morning and got a workout in before most of his teammates showed up for exit meetings.

When he addressed the media, the three-time Stanley Cup winner said he's healthy and has no plans to hang up the blades.

Quote

Flaherty was still stinging from Monday's Game 6 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs and avoided the arena entirely. He'll have his exit meeting today before heading home to Vancouver before the week is out.

When reached on his cellphone, Flaherty said he plans to discuss his future with his family.

One of the problems with a potential return to the Moose is that the crease could be crowded if the parent Vancouver Canucks re-sign Drew MacIntyre and 2004 first round pick Cory Schneider leaves Boston College after his junior season, as is expected.

The Canucks also have Julien Ellis in the system, though he might benefit from another season in the ECHL

Quote

"I'm not going to close any doors," said Flaherty. "But (Vancouver) may not want to sign me. They might say 'that's enough.'"

and then their was No Scorin" Goren......

Quote

Facing grim reality
Goren sees no future for himself in Canucks system
By KEN WIEBE -- Sun Media

Lee Goren has come to a sad realization.

After spending most of the past three seasons as a valued member of the Manitoba Moose, Goren's days of starring for the hometown team could be over.

The consummate power forward  was still coming to grips with the reality of Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs in Game 6 of the AHL North Division final.

"It's something that's going to be tough for me because I love playing here and I love the way the organization treats you," said Goren, who recently completed his fifth 20-plus goal season in the AHL with 26 goals and 68 points in 72 games with the Moose. "It's a first-class organization and it's been a great three years."

Being assembled to win a Calder Cup championship and coming up short is something that will stick with Goren throughout the off-season.

"We've had good teams and it's disappointing to not get there," said Goren. "It's something we worked for and it's going to be disappointing seeing guys go to other places. I'd like to continue to see the Moose do well, but there are other avenues guys have to explore."

Goren will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and one thing is clear -- he isn't expecting an offer from the parent Vancouver Canucks.

"I was a day away from signing in Switzerland last year and Zinger made a big effort to sign me. I've appreciated everything he's done for me," said Goren, noting he will consider signing an AHL deal with the Moose. "I'd love to be back here but the situation with Vancouver is not a good one for me. I want to get a chance as a depth guy or a call-up guy and I don't think I got that opportunity and it really (bothered) me during the year. Rightly or wrongly, that's how I felt. I don't feel I owe anything to Vancouver and I'm not looking to sign with them."

Goren wasn't the only one lamenting the prospect of the team's core being ripped apart next season when the Moose are expected to feature a younger team.

"That's the toughest part about it. We knew we had a great team going into the playoffs and we had a chance to win it all," said Moose forward Jason Jaffray. "It may be a young team, but those young prospects are good players and you know that (Moose general manager) Craig Heisinger will go out and find some good guys."

There is a chance that all seven veterans who ended the season on the Moose roster might not be back.

Brandon Reid is almost certainly headed for Europe, while Tyler Bouck, Yannick Tremblay, Brad Moran, Marc Chouinard and Goren will all consider playing overseas next season.

Captain Mike Keane has the best chance of returning.

"It's difficult. You don't know what's going to happen, especially with this league," said Keane. "It's a challenge. It isn't any easy job for Zinger."

Draft Couture he's skilled, big, and can play the wing/center.

He plays a similar style to Marleau.

http://www.mynhldraft.com/2007 predicts that we pick Dana Tyrell.

Who exactly is he? I looked at the final ISS rankings and he isn't even ranked as a first round pick.

Edit: Oooh. I checked out his stats and they aren't bad. He's 5'11 - 180 pounds, he's from Alberta, he's a center, he's a lefty, and he plays for the PG Cougars.

Yup.

Have a look at Calgary, Minnesota and Edmonton’s third round pick. Brandon Sutter with Calgary, Colton Gillies with Minnesota, and Joakim Anderson with Edmonton. That would totally suck. Three NW teams getting big, talented centers.

I don't know about you but personally if our first rounder this year becomes a player like Mo I would be very happy. Think about how many players drafted at or below #25 that turned out to be solid first or second liners... now think about how many didn't even make the NHL.
