Well, Nonis said in an interview that if there had been 5 players at the top of their list that were available they would have taken them even if they were all d-men

So it's obs vious they were very high on Ellington and believed him to be the best available and were not drafting for position

Taylor Matson is committed to Minnesota next year, i think it';s time to ditch UMD and bgegin rooting for UM

GO GOPHERS GO!

Here are some players I would've liked the Canucks to draft that are left undrafted now:

Eric Doyle - How the hell did he not get chosen? He dropped from being a potential first rounder to third rounder in all the rankings, but I was thinking he was going to get drafted.
Vitaly Karamnov - I actually thought this Russian kid had game, but I guess he was passed upon.
Roman Bashkirov - Put up decent numbers, but was playing with his twin Bashkirov and Esposito. His numbers were slightly better than his brothers with more games played but supposedly didn't play the body or as much as of a North American game as Ruslan.

I guess Nonis went with his best player available philosophy with the second pick. IMO, we shouldn't really care about what the rankings say. If a team has to use rankings as their only guide, thats sad as the scouting staff isn't doing their job. That would be like you and me being the scouts for the Canucks. I still would've liked to see the Canucks draft Moller with that second pick though, but oh well, it's over with. Here's what I would've done if I were the Canucks:

1st Round - Keep it the same here, I trust the Canucks scouts on Patrick White. If I had to personally choose in the position though, I would've gone with my gut feeling and chosen Perron.
2nd Round - I would've drafted Moller instead of Ellington, mind you I don't know much about Ellington other than he's a punishing stay-at-home dman who hasn't shown much offensive upside.
Trade two 5th Rounders for a third rounder (if possible) - Mayarov, should'nt have been here at this spot
6th Rounder - Zach Torquato, like Mayarov, he shouldn't have been here at this spot
7th Rounder - Eric Doyle; like I said earlier, I was very shocked that he wasn't drafted

And how the hell did we pass on Valach and Karamnov???

Valach would look great in a Van city uni, if it fit him. . .

wow Valach wasnt even drafted
thats messed up

i was actually really surprised at Karamnov, i thought he would go 3rd-4th round.

i mean how coluld over 210 selections, and not one be Karamnov or Valach. this draft was full of surprises

and well as soon as i found out we took Ellington, i was immiedtly wtf. I assumed that maybe then Moller and Mayorov were taken. But as i found they werent.

well ellington better be worth it, because knowing that Mayorov, Andersson, Moller, even Repik were still available. aghh very disappointed with this draft. Very disapointed

Malkin. Semin. Ovechkin. Kovalchuk.

Canucks drafting is a prime example of how "safe" picks can go horribly, horribly wrong.
Alain Vigneault has single handedly driven away great Canucks such as, Markus Naslund, Mattias Ohlund, Matt Cooke, Brendan Morrison and Trevor Linden. He is also responsible for icing Rick Rypien, who was handed someone's spot on the roster after taking three months to decide if he even wanted to resurrect his injury riddled and less than mediocre career. IMO, you made the wrong choice, Rick.

Well, then that's the development program's fault. :\

some stats for Taylor Matson

2006-07 USHL GP10 1G 2A 3P
2006-07 Holy Angels HS GP11 16G 15A 31P
2005-06 Holy Angels HS GP27 30G 40A 70P

Looks like Matson like Patrick White did part time USHL and Full-Time High School. He really lit it up in High School, wow. He actually had a more impressive High School career then White, however White was born in 1989 and Matson was born in 1988(could have started school a year later) and he played in Maine as opposed to Minnesota

Lol. Holy Angels.

Thanks for the stats. I was looking for some of Matson's point totals.

Yeah, I heard Matson was flying under that radar.

We could use a good steal in this draft.

well, Whitey and Matson will be teammates with the Gopher's next year. However, they are both center's and likely won't share the ice. Unless of course of them move's to/is better suited to the wing

But not a bad draft IMO.

I don't think you can say it was a poor draft for us or a good one. This year if the professional scouts were baffled which players were going to be top 6 forwards or top 4 D let alone just NHL players, then there is no way we can say" should have got him" lines. I was happy with White, Ellington I think was in response to MacLean going ahead and the fact he can skate and hit it doesn't really bother me. We have to be excited that the Kings and Blackhawks took our 2nd rounders this year instead of next as it is already projected to be a very solid draft. Overall I'm fine with it, I do agree I would have thought we would have drafted another forward with our 2nd but having a stock pile of D men never hurts an organization, as they always can be traded for forwards.

As I posted in the Trade section, Jason Jaffray has signed with the Canucks on a two-way contract. Not surprising since Moran/Reid/Goren are all gone. He will be a good fit with the Moose "kids" next season, and will most likely get a few games in at the NHL level.

- They say that everything happens for a reason - I'm still waiting - They say the good die young - I guess that's why you were chosen -

7. Sergei Shirokov, LW
7. Drew MacIntyre, G
8. Juraj Simek, RW
9. Daniel Rahimi
10. 2007 33rd pick

I thought Grabner was higher than both White and Raymond. Doesn't Grabner have the potential to be an NHL first-liner?

I don't know about you but the whole idea of a future line of Raymond White Grabner really gets me excited. Two players blazing down the wing, one right handed shot in the middle, one playmaker and 2 snipers..........ohhhhhhh how sweet it could be.
