in that inteverview toxic did with grabner, he said that he weighs around 183.. i could be wrong though

Yup, something like that. That interview was done around mid August??. Atleast it looks like he worked hard in the gym.

- They say that everything happens for a reason - I'm still waiting - They say the good die young - I guess that's why you were chosen -

nice to see labrie move on. I havn't heard much of bliznak though, he made the main camp but i havn't seen any reports. not falling behind, not showing off maybe...

Fuller, oh my, wow, who could have seen that coming... it was the 7th round, but there were more serviceable guys still kicking around and guys that would still be canucks prospects if they were drafted

Here's some interesting news from HockeyBuzz.

Quote

There is an interesting story that could develop in Taylor Ellington at the current prospects camp. Taylor is a Vancouver area kid, and talking to some folks in the organization yesterday they are blown away by his progress...

That's from Eklund's Canucks Preview.

I noticed that too. Most of the reports I've read have said something along the lines of Ellington being a boy among men. But the most recent articles about him have said that he has made progress throughout camp and seems to be getting better and better. Heres to him having a good run at Main Camp.

After looking at the poll on Canucksfanz.com, I thought I might as well as the same question here.

Which prospect do you think will have the biggest impact at main camp? Hansen, Raymond, Edler or Bourdon? Or someone else for that matter.

With Miller out for the camp, Edler and Bourdon should get some good playing time with the vets.
NUCK YEAH!!!

They were going to get good time regardless.

With Miller out, they might get a little more preseason time, however.

Based on everything that I’ve heard from writers, Dave Nonis and Alain Vigneault themselves, I expect Mason Raymond to have the best Training Camp.

Tim, have you attended any of the prospect practices?

I had school and work that interefered with me going out there.

But I am going to make the trek out to BMA for the first day of main camp.

Schneider is no dummy (O RLY)

He may be third in pecking order, but rookie goalie will be playing for a spot
Elliott Pap, Vancouver Sun
Published: Wednesday, September 12, 2007

VICTORIA -- After three years of university, Vancouver Canuck prospect Cory Schneider is no dummy, and he doesn't plan to be one when the NHL team's main training camp opens here Thursday.

Schneider is acutely aware the Canucks have a pecking order in goal and that he's slotted No. 3 behind alpha male Roberto Luongo and new backup Curtis Sanford.

Barring injury, he will be on the farm in Manitoba no matter how well (or poorly) he performs in September. Still, he has no intention of being training camp fodder for the Canuck veterans.

"I am not going to main camp just to be a dummy and sit there and take shots," Schneider said. "I'll be there to work and compete. It's probably been pre-determined already but until I hear the coaches tell me to go somewhere else, I'm going to assume that I'm playing for a spot."

At the end of prospect camp Monday, Schneider acknowledged he's in a situation unlike any other he has faced in his young career.

His experiences in the NCAA with Boston College and at both the world junior and world senior championships with Team U.S.A. were still insufficient preparation for a first professional camp.

"The kind of quantity and quality I've seen already is something I've never dealt with before," said the 21-year-old Bostonian. "I've done camps with a lot of on-ice and nothing much else or some that are just off-ice. This was a combination of both and when you factor in the pressure and the battles and the competition going on, it was pretty unique.

"Prospect camp was definitely hard work. You're up early and on the ice a lot, especially the goalies, and then there was a workout and the bike afterwards. It was kind of a long four or five hours, or however long it was. But I think it was good. It was good to push yourself.

"The camp was a tryout basically, so there was a lot of grit and determination from everybody out there."

Schneider gave himself a passing grade for his performance with the prospects. There was no doubt he would be moving on to main camp, but he didn't want to fall on his face either.

If you get in head coach Alain Vigneault's doghouse early, it is a long climb out, as Jesse Schultz and Marc Chouinard (both gone from the organization) discovered last September.

"I think I can play better than I did but, on the other hand, I didn't embarrass myself or fall extremely short of expectations," Schneider said. "I was learning and trying to adjust.

"Heading into main camp, I am not too anxious. Maybe once the big guys get here, the nerves will get going but, right now, I'm pretty excited to go out there and see how I stack up against the other guys."

Vigneault has no complaints about Schneider so far, although he confessed he didn't watch the netminder all that much, leaving the assessments to goalie coach Ian Clark.

"Ian is the goaltending guru and if he said the kid has a lot of upside, then he does," Vigneault smiled.

Meantime, Schneider and the 14 others who graduated from prospect camp are enjoying two days off in Victoria. They'll be joined later today by the NHL and Manitoba Moose vets after the latter group checks in for medicals and testing at GM Place.

I don't know for sure if this fits in with the whole "prospect" section of this thread, but with all of the hype around training camp I figured I might ask what you guys think of Josef Balej? I am aware that a few months back there was an influx of topics and posts about him with some claiming him to be the next Vanek, and others claiming he's nothing but a "poor man's Matt Cooke" Realistically, though, how do you guys feel he will do in training camp? He's probably pretty rusty as he has been out of the whole North American pro loop for quite some time, which causes me to have my doubts. However, do any of you think he is capable of succeeding at this level any more? Where do you feel he will be after training camp is over? Do you think he will be reassigned to the Moose, and if so, what amount of ice time do you feel he would realistically get? Is it at all possible for him to make the team straight out of training camp, or do you feel his max potential is a top like AHL player with the occasional callup?

I would appreciate any possible information about him.

Thanks,
Glov3s

Sooooo...I was at Bear Mountain Arena for the Group A practice.

Hansen was one of the best forwards out there. Hardworking, excellent skater. Good hard shot, had a nice one timer goal from Daniel Sedin.

Grabner....I've never been so low on him. He was pretty f*cking lazy the whole practice, not backchecking very hard, drifting like Bertuzzi, did not show the advertised speed or acceleration, did not do anything to make me notice at all. AV didnt look pleased with him at all.

Simek was good, skating isnt that bad, he's quite strong on his skates, wasn't selfish with the puck, needs a little more overall effort.

Ellington didn't seem to make very many mistakes today which pleased me.

Balej/Jaffray were ok, I'd say Balej was better.

I caught maybe 5 minutes of group 2:

Edler's skating is just awesome, so effortless, really noticed that.

Raymond...wow, can this kid skate.

Shannon...very diminutive but speedy.

Labrie...huge and slow.

Then I had to leave.

Based from the reports at prospect camp and todays camp it seems like either Hansen or Raymond can make it to the big club. I still have hopes in Grabner becoming a sniper down the road but he is still young and has lots of time to develop and hone his game.

Grabner seems destined to Manitoba to work on his weaknesses.

I had to leave at 11:10 (once the group B players (Edler, Bourdon, Raymond, Shannon, Isbister, Schnieder) just started warmup laps) so I didn't see much of those guys.

But from what I saw Edler is one SMOOTH skater, Raymond is a speedy puckhandling machine and Bourdon is a good skater/shooter.

I was unable to see Bourdon do any drills to determine how his hockey making decisions were, however.

NOTES
Cory Schneider’s training camp debut was a memorable. The college grad drew cheers from the morning crowd for his save of Matt Cooke, who had a rebound jump onto his tape with half a net watching from a foot away. Schneider stretched across to quash Cookie’s good fortune… It took Jannik Hansen all of one shift to score his first goal of main camp, and it was on Luongo. Mind you, it was converting a 3-on-1 rush, but it still looked nice.

Hansen was awesome today.
