They were going to get good time regardless.

With Miller out, they might get a little more preseason time, however.

Yup, exactly what I meant.

I'm going to main camp tommorow!

I'll do my best to keep an eye out for the prospects.

I don't know for sure if this fits in with the whole "prospect" section of this thread, but with all of the hype around training camp I figured I might ask what you guys think of Josef Balej? I am aware that a few months back there was an influx of topics and posts about him with some claiming him to be the next Vanek, and others claiming he's nothing but a "poor man's Matt Cooke" Realistically, though, how do you guys feel he will do in training camp? He's probably pretty rusty as he has been out of the whole North American pro loop for quite some time, which causes me to have my doubts. However, do any of you think he is capable of succeeding at this level any more? Where do you feel he will be after training camp is over? Do you think he will be reassigned to the Moose, and if so, what amount of ice time do you feel he would realistically get? Is it at all possible for him to make the team straight out of training camp, or do you feel his max potential is a top like AHL player with the occasional callup?

I would appreciate any possible information about him.

Thanks,
Glov3s

Sooooo...I was at Bear Mountain Arena for the Group A practice.

Hansen was one of the best forwards out there. Hardworking, excellent skater. Good hard shot, had a nice one timer goal from Daniel Sedin.

Grabner....I've never been so low on him. He was pretty f*cking lazy the whole practice, not backchecking very hard, drifting like Bertuzzi, did not show the advertised speed or acceleration, did not do anything to make me notice at all. AV didnt look pleased with him at all.

Simek was good, skating isnt that bad, he's quite strong on his skates, wasn't selfish with the puck, needs a little more overall effort.

Ellington didn't seem to make very many mistakes today which pleased me.

Balej/Jaffray were ok, I'd say Balej was better.

I caught maybe 5 minutes of group 2:

Edler's skating is just awesome, so effortless, really noticed that.

Raymond...wow, can this kid skate.

Shannon...very diminutive but speedy.

Labrie...huge and slow.

Then I had to leave.

Based from the reports at prospect camp and todays camp it seems like either Hansen or Raymond can make it to the big club. I still have hopes in Grabner becoming a sniper down the road but he is still young and has lots of time to develop and hone his game.

Grabner seems destined to Manitoba to work on his weaknesses.

I had to leave at 11:10 (once the group B players (Edler, Bourdon, Raymond, Shannon, Isbister, Schnieder) just started warmup laps) so I didn't see much of those guys.

But from what I saw Edler is one SMOOTH skater, Raymond is a speedy puckhandling machine and Bourdon is a good skater/shooter.

I was unable to see Bourdon do any drills to determine how his hockey making decisions were, however.

NOTES
Cory Schneider’s training camp debut was a memorable. The college grad drew cheers from the morning crowd for his save of Matt Cooke, who had a rebound jump onto his tape with half a net watching from a foot away. Schneider stretched across to quash Cookie’s good fortune… It took Jannik Hansen all of one shift to score his first goal of main camp, and it was on Luongo. Mind you, it was converting a 3-on-1 rush, but it still looked nice.

Hansen was awesome today.

What did you think of Raymond? Did he do anything that made him stand out today?

Thanks, Chiklets for the Trevor sig.

Had to leave after he just got on the ice, but he was flying in the warmup skates.

Does Raymond have much of a shot? I hear tons about how fast he is and how he is capable of flying around defenders, but in close can he seal the deal?
