Stamkos has the whole package, basically he can skate. Watching Tavares in the Russia vs Canada series he was quite slow out there. It'll be the organizational needs. Do you need a playmaker/goal scorer then you'd take Stamkos and if you need pure goal scoring talent then you'd take Tavares.

Thanks to mr7 for the sig

I'm just glad that he is putting up points at the AHL level.
yes true, whats he on pace for? something like 20 goals and 30 assists?
Isn't he sort of a career slow starter and picks it up at the 2nd half of the season>?

That's his track record. I predict that in the next couple of months he'll pick up his game, and lead the team in goals.

As much as it;d be nice to have him break out and have a hat-trick, something must be said for his consistency this year, he's put strings together of good games, not just 1 on 4 off, more like 3 on 1 off, this in the long run is more important than getting goals in bunches

Can he even get better in the AHL now?
Probably can fine tune his offensive game down in the AHL but right now he is getting #1 PP time.

I think Tavares' skating is something that can and will improve. Anyone else remember the Sedin's when they first joined the NHL? They were giving Dave Anderchyuk a run for the "Best Impersonation of Molasses". But as we can see now, they are waaay faster then they used to be. (especially acceleration) Obviously they are not the fastest players by any means, but it has been a huge improvement.
Given the choice between Stamkos and Tavares, I'd still pick the latter. Obviously it is very early and anything can happen though. I think Tavares will get a huge amount of his points from the PP, where speed won't be as big a factor.
I know junior points are junior points, but 53 points in 23 games and having just turned 17 is amazing.
