February 2007 Update: An aggressive player in the offensive zone…a gifted skater with an impressive top speed…needs to improve his defensive awareness…needs to use his body more than his stick against an opponent…becomes overly involved on the offensive side of the ice – needs to pay more attention to his defensive responsibilities…effective one on one when he does play defense in his own zone…a capable puckhandler…has a very dangerous wrist shot with a quick release and good aim…the top offensive defenseman in Russia with HC Avangard and the national team.

Canucks brass knows better than to trade a Pominville, Derek Roy type player out of our system.
Thankfully. Have you forgotten those Forsberg rumblings that were going on? Jason Blake? (yuck) Those rumours were frightening and I even found myself getting caught up in the Forsberg fervor. Nonis should be commended on a job well done. It was a tight balancing act between appeasing Luongo and not selling the farm/forfeiting the future. He did remarkably well "filling holes" without giving up a single prospect.

Sounds like an even weaker Jovanovski. Sandiz Ozolinsh 2.0, imo. I am less and less confident in this guy with each passing report I read.

Who needs give aways when you're deeper in the O-zone than the RWer?

Krikunov collects four points in thrashing
Winger Ilya Krikunov increased his scoring total for the season by 25% in a single game when he collected a power play goal and three assists in Khimik's 13-1 drubbing of Krilja.
Krikunov now totals seven goals (five on the power play) and nine assists in 44 games. He also has 50 PIM.
Fellow winger Sergei Shirokov continued his good play and picked up an assist in CSKA's 3-2 win at Chelyabinsk.
Winger Evgeny Gladskikh and rearguard Denis Grot again were not in the line-ups for the games of their respective teams.
In Sweden, Daniel Rahimi's team Bjorkloven was 19 seconds away from elimination but survived with a 5-4 OT win and extended the series against Växjö to a decisive third game.
Rahimi has no point, two PIM, and a -1 rating in the series so far.
On the other hand, Swiss winger Thomas Nussli's team Basel could not hold on to a 4-0 lead after the first period and lost 4-5 in overtime to Ambri.
Basel now trails the best-of-seven series in the so-called "Playdowns" 0-2. Nussli was a non-factor in both games.
Wow, 13-1.
Guess Rahimi survives another game.

American Hockey League teams must declare their 22-man rosters for the rest of the season and playoffs tomorrow afternoon.
Moose coach Scott Arniel said the Manitoba hockey braintrust (with some Vancouver input) have already had discussions on who will be on it. Regardless if they decide to acquire a player or two prior to the 2 p.m. deadline, there still will be a few tough decisions the club has to make.
Up front, the club is awfully deep and will have to answer a few tricky questions. Has the suddenly effective Alexandre Bolduc done enough to stay? How can they jump-start Jannik Hansen's offensive numbers once again? Recently assigned Marc Chouinard will probably be back up in Vancouver once the playoffs arrive, so is he really in the Moose mix? Rick Rypien and Tyler Bouck have long-term injuries, so where do they stand?
The Moose have 16 forwards on the roster and there are ways to manage the numbers for a full advantage. Look for them to be a little creative.
Defensively, the usual operation is to put seven players on the clear day list. Right now there are eight bodies to choose from. The Canucks do have prospects who could play in Manitoba (junior star Luc Bourdon and Swede Daniel Rahimi) once their seasons end with their respective clubs, so they will be considered, as well.
Wade Flaherty and Drew MacIntyre are the goaltenders.
