1. They do SCREAM west coast and British Columbia very well. It's a popular perception even here in Ontario where I live.
2. They are the LARGEST of the oceanic dolphin family.
3. Orca's are OPPORTUNISTIC and VERSATILE PREDATORS. (A large reason they are my favorite marine animal)
4. The Orca's large size and STRENGTH make them the FASTEST marine animals, often reaching speeds over 56 km/h. (Wikipedia)
5. The largest concentration of orca's in the world reside off the coast of British Columbia.
6. They are sometimes called the WOLVES of the sea because they hunt in PACKS like wolves. A TEAM concept.
7. Orca's FEAR NOTHING. They will attack adult whales, sharks and even polar bears on occasion.
8. They are UNBELIEVABLY SMART teachers and predators. See this link for more details if you like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orca
I tried to reply to this earlier, but alas my account was not approved by an administrator.
So, first, very good points about the killer whale / Orca... I have nothing against Orcas, in fact, I too like them. If the team name was the Vancouver Orcas, I wouldn't object to neither the team name, nor the logo. However, we are the Canucks... and if you want to believe marketing, "we are all canucks"... we aren't all freakin' orcas.
Second, the first post, by Maxim, when did the league decide AWAY jerseys are going to be dark colours again? And that is the same jersey seen in the camera phone pictures that magically has similar shading/shadows/folds on the jersey to a VERY similar design of the new Capitals jerseys.
I don't buy the Orca and I don't buy the validity of those pictures. Maybe it is just wishful thinking... because I wouldn't buy that jersey.
