To all the moron bandwagon fans who jeered him last night, just take note for future reference that this is the same goalie carried the team last season in the playoffs when the Canucks were offensively challenged. He is also same goalie in recent weeks who kept the team within the game when teams like Detroit and Carolina was almost shelling the Canucks into submission. Roberto Luongo lets in a rare weak goal, all you idiot fans start jeering/booing him and suggesting ludicrous trade proposals? FOR SHAME! Keep it up Canucks fans, start digging a new hole in the goaltending graveyard and drive Luongo out of town, Im assuming most of you cant wait another two years when his contract is up. The bottom line is, dont take Roberto Luongo for granted, he is probably the best thing in recent years to impact the Canucks in a positive note, and most likely impacting your pathetic lives as well.

Boo birds let Luongo have it
Goaltender lets in two goals on Nashville's first two shots

Jason Botchford, The Province
Published: Friday, November 02, 2007

For most of October, Roberto Luongo's play was protected.

He was granted immunity after last year's Vezina-worthy season. And rightfully so.

But avoiding criticism in Vancouver has become much more difficult for the league's highest-paid goalie at precisely 6:16 into the first period of Thursday's game. That's when a soft wrister from David Legwand leaked through his legs and into the net for a morale-busting start to a key home game for the Canucks.

"It's unfortunate because a goal like that early hurts the team, especially with the struggles we've had at home," Luongo said. "It took the wind out of our sails."

And Martin Erat didn't help Luongo's case, or the Canucks fragile psyche, when he, while on a breakaway, slid a puck through Luongo's five hole to put the Preds up 2-0.

In an instant the GM Place crowd dramatically turned on Luongo. The "Looouus," which have smothered him for more than a year, turned to "boooos" which rained down on the star netminder several times in the second half of the game.

The Canucks noticed. And they were surprised, even disappointed.

"To boo our goaltender after he let in two goals on the first two shots, I thought that was crossing the line a bit," Brendan Morrison. "I think it's horse(expletive). It's funny how these things work.

"He's the guy everyone is fawning over and then, as a team, we're having a tough start and all of a sudden everyone's (expletive) on him.

"He doesn't deserve it. I will take the (jeers) as a team because in a lot of instances we deserve it."

There's no question, Luongo should have a lot of leeway after stealing the hearts of most Vancouver fans during a sensational run in the second half of last season.

It was a run for the ages and one Luongo may struggle to ever duplicate.

But he's had a mediocre statistical start to the season, and it's one he can't explain.

"I've been feeling good but unfortunately that's not reflected in the statistics and there's nothing I can do about that," Luongo said. "I know I'm working hard. I know I've been feeling good and confident during the games. That stuff will sort itself out later on."

Luongo entered the game ranked 23rd in the league with a 2.92 GAA, one spot behind Alex Auld. His .903 save percentage was just a shade better than Peter Budaj's, placing Luongo 21st in the league. As for wins, the statistic he considers most important, Luongo has just four, good enough for a tie in the NHL for 14th.

But in spite of the stats, Luongo said the first goal in Thursday's game was "probably one of my first bad goals of the season, that I can remember."

"He shot it through the D-man's leg and I was slow to react," Luongo said.

Luongo is good at seeing his faults when he plays well, and even better at finding his flaws when he played not so great. He knows what he needs to do for the next game and probably agree's with the fans that he didn't have a great start to the game last night.

You got to be paddle down and cover that five hole. But he knows that...

He'll be fine.

Why wait two years? I hope they trade him today well his value is still good. We got a good young goalie ready to stepup and the Sandman. We probably could get some frontend talent right now with a Luongo trade from Atlanta or several other teams with goalie problems.

You just keep over rating him. He has been to the playoffs once and won one round...whooooppppeeeeee Cloutier did more then that and he really blew.

Sure Luongo is a good goalie but really he is taking up too much cap space in a NHL where average goalies can win the Cup if you have talent up front.

Problem is DN/AV keep thinking old NHL, when this is the new NHL. Trap don't work, D don't work, Superstar Goalie don't work!!! All that crap is a joke, what you need is a good bunch of talented players and a Canadian Captain.

Just call it like it is.......Luongo will want atrade himself before long!!! He wants to win the Cup and anyone can see this team is never going to do that with this crew that DN locks up for years with NTC.

I'm tired of the fans here. They try their hardest to make Laff fans look better.

Give it a rest.

What do you expect? These are the same fans who cheer against opposing team's goalies - you know "YOU SUCK TURCO"...etc....

Call it Karma, whatever - what goes around comes around - you sow what you reap...well - now we are getting it really good....

Curtis Sandford and Corey Schneider ready to step into the spotlight? Oh please, I think I nearly choked on my cereal trying not to laugh. And what are you basing your assumption on?

Overrating Luongo hey? What about Luongo's days in Florida? Yeah, he was a total fluke there.

Lastly, you do realize that despite Dave Nonis sitting on his a** and not making any significant moves during the offseason, he has set up the Canucks to be in a good position when offseason comes with that huge cap space to play with. Then again, like any other Canucks fans, I dont have that patience to wait until then and I want positive results now. So tell me genius, how is trading our franchise goalie right now is going to solve our current problems when in turn, it will create more problems. Problems like, "Canucks dont have a solidify goaltender anymore" or "OH SWEET MOTHER JESUS, WE GOT HOSSA, NOW THE CANUCKS WILL FOLLOW THE MAPLE LEAFS TREND, TOPS IN THE LEAGUE WITH GOALS FORWARD AND GOALS AGAINST"

Booing Lou is deserved if he play's like Garbage.

Fan's have a right to hold player's accountable. (no fan's, no players)

The type of competator Lou is he'll bounce back a shove it in everyone's face.

Alla Kiprusoff Last year in Calgary.

Every need's to stop acting like the sky is falling

If we were 0-12 maybe, but 5-8 could be way way worse.

i was at the game yesterday, i never booed luongo personally but rather the entire canuck team.
That being said, the first 2 goals were both five holed and those have to be stopped.

I'm not faulting the loss on luongo, (as he shouldn't be), it was the entire team. They looked flat, lifeless and making mistakes left right and center.

After shelling out money to see the canucks play, i really don't care that they lost, but rather the way they lost. It looked as though the work ethic wasn't there and that's what ticks me off. Not the fact that they lost, but rather how they didn't show up.

The entire night it was dump the puck in, and fail to get to it quick enough. They looked slow.

I'm also tired of the same old excuses by naslund. "we know we can play better" How many times this season have we heard that excuse.

Yesterday, the Canucks deserved to be booed off the ice for their lackluster performance, and any of the 18622ish fans who went yesterday would probably agree.

Luongo let in 2 goals in first two shots and the last shot. I don't see his team scoring goals or doing something positive. To add oil to the fire, Salo and Bieksa are injured.

anyone else seriously thinking about avoiding the site altogether becase of all of these fans that have no hope of a better team. Sure we aren't the best but just like almost every season the canucks will get better you should all be ashamed and be burning your jersey's for the way your talking right now. Ya know what you might as well american hockey fans once something goes wrong just turn your back on the team you moight have been cheering on for years.

Right from the getgo the crowd was booing, how was the team supposed to get motivated to get back in it. Bandwagon P O S "fans". Luongo has been great to us, will be great for us, there is NO reason to boo him. We have him here, we want him to want to be here, don't mess it up. We have to be on his side.

I bet the canucks can't wait for a roadtrip. Can you blame them?

BTW - even if Luongo allows say 1 bad goal - you still won't win many games when you can't put the puck in the net yourself - what do you want - Luongo to skate with the puck and try to score when the guys in front of him aren't?

:P

Thats what Im being critical about, if the fans started jeering on Luongo, the very least the players couldve done was stepped it up, defend their goalie and try to get it back for Luongo on the other end. Brendan Morrison said it himself in the article, it was 'horse s***' that fans were jeering him. But hey B-mo, it's not like the other players in front of Luongo did anything about it to shut the fans up, instead, it has come to a point that the players dont realize how important Luongo is to the team and they have taken him for granted. That being said, I just hope the lads have some sort of team meeting on the plane, a team bonding lego buiding seminar high up in the Rockies somewhere, because this upcoming week is going to be hell.

They weren't booing Luongo, they were booing the entire Canucks team. Jason Botchford is just looking for a story. The Canucks played like horse???? last night and if I was in attendance I probably would have boo-ed them as well. This story never would have been published had the Canucks scored 2 or more goals last night. Instead, they didn't score any, and still the media and moronic fans look at Luongo and instantly blame him.

Neither can the fans. They're a great road team but just rediculous at GM Place.

Luongo should have been perfect so that the score was 0-0 all the way into the shootout.

Oh Noes then what?

ROFL at the people who blaim the goalie when we get shutout terribly, with very few offensive chances.

There are nights when I think that Sal Paradise was right...

You're so right. A team meeting is a must at this point to sort out problems. Judging by the players' comments, it sounds like internal problems such as team chemistry and others that are dragging the team down and led to the lackluster effort. I don't know if Av is part of the problems, but he should be in the meeting as well to help solve them. After they're sort things out, then they can engage in team-building or bonding activities, because you can't bond if you have grudges, problems, or misunderstandings about your colleagues.

He deserved to be boo'ed. Too many games where's he let early shots go behind him. He had the issue last year too. If you play like crap, you get boo'ed.
