However, these guidelines should be not treated like strict rules. I wouldn't be necessarily lock a proposal simply because it violates one or more of these guidelines.
It would be nice if everyone who makes a proposal considered all of these things, but its unrealistic to expect everyone to put that much thought into proposals.
Still, these guidelines would be useful since people responding to "bad" proposals could cite specific guidelines explaining why the proposal isn't good and how it could be improved.
What's everyone's thoughts on this?

We'd also chase away the 12-year olds starting new threads about the latest way in EA Sports to dump Morrison and Cooke for Jeff Carter.
It's a definite go as far as I'm concerned.

this is why i rarely ever make threads. I dont have the knowledge to create something that isnt already on the board.
I would make this a good rule, but allow a certain liberty to posters who may not know much about the game, and are making the thread in good faith.
We all would like to stop troll threads specifically designed to draw attention to themselves and the ire of other posters.

PLease put it as a sticky. Also, please add in general, no more Kopitar threads (that includes trades involving him, or threads like we should draft him instead of Bourdon crap), there has been like 4 million thread on Kopitar that doesn't go anywhere. Maxim, whenever you see a topic that has the word Kopitar, automatic LOCK

NONIS, GO SIGN JAROMIR JAGR!!!

Honestly?
Folks should be able to read this and understand that if they want to be taken seriously, they should abide with the rules established on here. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect people to put a LITTLE bit of thought into their proposals. I would also say that people trying to come up with interesting proposals should at least adhere to #1 (Team needs) #3 (Salary Cap) and #7 (Franchise Players.)
One of the things that grinds my gears are people who just make a proposal thread and it's something like this:
Naslund
for
Briere
With no explanation or rationale for doing this trade.
I don't think it should be enforced strictly, but I think it would make moderators lives easier if they can just go 'Look, the reason people were lambasting your trade was because you didn't put much thought into it.'
The response on here thus far has been generally positive, I would say the 'tribe has spoken, if you will.
To repeat myself, I 100% agree that these shouldn't be strict guidelines.
Ex, having someone suggest Burrows for Crosby should be an auto-lock. Having someone suggest trading, say, Miller and Cooke for Bryan McCabe (or another player who has weird clauses in his contract, this is a hypothetical trade) shouldn't be an auto-lock. Instead, posters should go 'well, McCabe has a no-movement clause in his contract' and the proposal should be updated accordingly.
I ALSO think if some serious guidelines are handed down for this subforum, then people who are responding to threads should also be held accountable if they go over the line. IE, be courteous when criticizing a proposal and don't flame the poster. Works both ways, sort of thing.
Other random ideas:
- If there are repeat offenders (ex, hjumanei and his proposals) they could be warned and/or suspended for continually breaking board rules, much as would happen in other, similar instances.
- Another idea would be to have this forum have restricted access and the only way that people can post in it is if they post something like "I understand the rules and will stick to them.' But that would be a nightmare for you guys, I'd imagine.
Neither situation is all that ideal, IMO.
Also, if you do decide to copy pasta this post, please make sure credit is given to the hfboards poster who wrote this up.

-VETERAN LEADERSHIP: Teams dont always need "veteran Leadership", and furthermore, it's never a garanteed improvement like some of you (including you Flinch i.e. "Smolinski") seem to think it is...
I think (actually im hoping) our own GM has finally learned that bringing in vets never is garanteed to reap big rewards: Ruchinsky, Bergevan, Carney, Weinrich, Smolinski
1, These both fall into the 'team needs' category, particularly the last one.
2, How many times do I need to explain to you why I was upbeat about the Smolinski deal? Nevermind. You're going to continue to think whatever you want.
3, There's really no reason for me bringing this last point up, but it's interesting food for thought: your homeboy, Nathan Horton, is really showing why he's such a stud with the Panthers, eh? 8 goals in 35 games. Yeah, he's 22, so there's lots of potential for him still, but I'm amused.

Please refer to the following website when considering proposals:
You can find all the NHL Team Salaries here:
http://www.nhlnumbers.com/
2007 NHL Free Agents listed here:
http://www.geocities...0/free2007.html
Please PM one of the Admins or moderators if you have any questions or concerns. Helpful threads detailing player statistics and data are welcome, and may be stickied if warranted.

For team numbers I prefer NHL'sCap.com - find it more accurate. It also has excellent explanations of waivers, long term inuries, etc. in the FAQ's:

Great Suggestions.
listing the sites where we can gather rellivant info should take care of 99% of the insane trades.
We must also consider this:
When considering a proposal, take yourself out of your 'Canuck Homer ' seat and put yourself in the other teams GM spot.
If you were the other team, would you HONESTLY do the trade? If so, then post the scenerio.

There is one other step.
Do NOT assume that either of the Mike's ("Mad Mike" Milbury or "Iron Mike" Keenan) are sitting in the other team's GM chair.

1. Not every poor proposal requires all of you over-sugared monkeys to post comments such as "Dumbest proposal ever" or "OMFG are you retarded?"
2. Not every trade proposal that involves Salo, Ohlund, Naslund, Mitchell, etc requires the above mentioned monkeys to post NTC OMG R u STUPID??? more than once. Most people know that there are players with NTC on this team. They are simply trying to find a deal that would work if the player with the NTC would waive it. These proposals also do not need everyone and their dog telling us why someone would not waive their NTC. You don't know the players personally, please don't try to tell everyone that they won't go to Florida because they like the snow in Canada..or they won't go to LA because their mom's dog need to be babysat every other Tuesday.
3. If you see in the proposal title that the deal is something stupid, like our 1st round pick for Kopitar, don't post in it. Just leave it, let it die, continually posting how stupid the OP is only keeps the thread on the first page. Resist your urges to be an internet wise donkey or tough guy, step away from the keyboard..go get something to relax you. The post will go away if you leave it alone.
Just some simple ideas to keep these apparently horrible and murderous posts to a minimum.
Also,
I'm putting together a list of the criteria to be a "real" Canuck's fan. So far I have this:
1. I cheer for the Canucks, whatever happens.
2. I never say anything bad about the Canucks.
3. I know the difference between "real" fans and posers just by how they post on the CDC or where they sit at GM Place.
4. I wouldn't dream of leaving a game before it ended, even if it meant missing a train, ferry or a threesome with the wife and her hot best friend?
5. I make 10+ posts a day and I have over 10,000 posts on the CDC, so my Canuck "street-cred" is huge. Go away noob!
6. No one F's with me. I train in MMA. I'm really tough. I'll curb stomp yo' donkey.
7. I make a tonne of $$$$.
8. I'm witty.
9. If it meant missing a game, I wouldn't study for a midterm.
10. I roll with a guy who has a wicked car.
11. I like to post "source?" a lot.

What would ever motivate Salo, Ohlund or Mitchell) to waive the NTC???? Their contracts are locked for the duration and they took significant discounts to play in Vancouver. All three have said so publicly. In fact Salo's agent was quite exasperated with his client and said so publicly.
If a proosal is not reasonable in your opinion, then report it to a mod as the Board Rules suggest.
