I gotta go with Vancouver, I heard bad things about Calgary and friends told me they don't have many good looking women as Vancouver do.
With th exception of cheaper housing there is NO reason to choose Calgary over Vancouver.

Even that's not much of a reason anymore.
I wouldn't be a resident of either, but I like Calgary better. I really don't like being in Vancouver anymore, particularly downtown. The homeless really give me a bad impression of the entire city. Even in Toronto I get asked for change only about 1/10th of the amount I do in Van.

I have a feeling in the 2010 olympics ppl will change there minds about Vancouver when they see that stuff.
Vancouver right now is like rated the number 1 place to live in the world.

You've heard bad things about Calgary, but have you BEEN to the city? Experienced it first hand?

That's because even crazy homeless people are smart enough to know where to live. BTW, there is still a VERY big difference in housing costs. Still, I wouldn't live in Calgary for free.

If I lived in Calgary I'd never leave that place.

Canada trying to hang on, they're going to get a break! It's going to be a break!
It is Joe Sakic... SCORES! ...JOE ...SAKIC ...SCORES and that makes it 5-2 Canada...
Surely... that's gotta be it!

I went to vancouver this past summer and had no problems with the folks on the eastside what city doesn't have its problems. Its a part of the city, and as bad as it may sound it what makes the city great you got its good and bad part, nothing in society is all rosey colored, yeah I'd like to see the folks be better off but thats all in the governments hands I guess....
People over exaggerate whole hastings debacle, its not compton folks....
Now in the hand of Calgary, its a new city, new people are coming in, the population is increasing in years time its going to get its problems. Just recently they busted a major cocaine bust, and the southeast is pretty shady, but as i said what city doesn't have its problems.
Ain't over till its over.

Calgary:
Pros:
-Job opportunities are endless. This is why most people move there, because they can find work easily and get paid well to do it.
-Squeaky clean. I'm not kidding, I couldn't believe how clean downtown Calgary was when I went there. They make a big deal of the fact they've eliminated rats entirely (actually, it's this way in the entire province of Alberta.)
-Nightlife: If you're into partying, Calgary is the place to be. Also, imho the local festivals and events scene is superior to Vancouver's.
-No PST!
Cons:
-The meat market and gold diggers: This a caveat to the "good nightlife" part. As a female, you really can't go out without having some good strong guys with you. Sooo many frickin slimeballs in that city (not just in bars), it was unbelievable. There's also a lot of girls whoreing themselves out to the next rich guy they can find. The standard of dress at the local bars and clubs is definitely a few degrees sluttier than in Vancouver. (If you think I'm just being uptight, go to Cowboy's and tell me that's not bordering on illegal.) There definitely seems to be a general air of shallowness and entitlement that goes along with the corporate culture. Not to say there's not a lot of good genuine people in Calgary (probably the majority actually), you've just to dig a little deeper.
-Very dry. This applies two ways. The air itself is dry, it wreaked havoc on my skin while I was there. Also, on a hot sunny day, it really sucks that there's no beaches to go to.
Vancouver:
Pros:
-Beautiful surroundings. Not much else needs to be said here. There's few other places that has so many outdoor activities available within the city or within a short distance from it.
-Transportation: We all love to gripe about it, but Vancouver's transportation system is actually pretty damn good for a city its size.
-Food: This may seem like a small thing, but the access to local produce, fresh fish as well as the many great restaurants of all different ethnic styles is a definite plus for Vancouver. (SUSHI!!!)
Cons:
-Unfortunately, the "no fun city" statement remains true. The lack of free outdoor events compared to other cities the same size is embarrassing.
-Drugs, specifically heroine. Yes, other cities have drug problems too, but few other Canadian cities have a comparable neighbourhood to our DTES.
-Weather. May seem strange to list this as a con, but I actually prefer a cold, snowy winter to a milder wet one.
-Arrogance. Don't deny it, Vancouverites are snobs (I know because I was one for 13 years!). We all think we live in the best city in the world and have no problem telling other people that.

In time calgary will get its fair share of problems people don't see it because it gets blown to the back.
But if I had to choose I like Ottawa, Vancouver's very nice but my families out east in nova scotia so instead of Toronto I'll live in Ottawa.

You're comparing these cities??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
Atleast come up with a city closer to being nice enough as Vancouver...like Vienna,Austria or something
cowgary???? After 2 days I kid you not, you get bored...theres nothing to do in calgary....the scenery is crap and its way too boring...nightlife is much better in Vancouver...calgary only has one street that has bars and clubs...we have them all over the place in Vancouver and the atmosphere here is 100 times better...calgary's a dallas wannabe with their country styled theme...how pathetic...and dont even start me on the women there...I nearly puked...
Vancouver is a world-class city thats been recognized around the world many times...I doubt those same people have even heard of calgary or where it is...
Vancouver's a hot tourist destination..while calgarys more of a stop for airplanes and cars to fuel up cause theyre on their way to somewhere nice...like Vancouver
