There is a palpable sense of concern in San Francisco right now. It's become very much clear that the Dodgers did more to improve their team than the Giants, as much as I was praising the Pence trade, the acquisition of Blanton was another low risk, high reward move and there are rumours they claimed Cliff Lee on waivers (possibly to keep him from the Giants' hands, who would have to submit waiver claims later). Hopefully the massacre they laid on the Rockies can wake them up from recent doldrums. What a sharp contrast to the A's, who are in full party mode with an apparent flair for the dramatic, picking up their 13th walkoff win of the season yesterday. Oakland is now in full possession of the top wild card slot, and needs to be thinking about waiver pickups themselves right now.

Money ball does it again?

Johnny Gaudreau>any Casucks

Edler, Markstrom, Hansen, 2nd round pick 2014 to Islanders for Ryan Strome, 5th overall pick 2014

This is fairly even as well.

Might be going to my 3rd ever baseball game in Seattle on August 14 vs. Tampa Bay! Go M's Go! I'm a perfect 2-0 when in attendance at baseball games, one in Seattle and one in San Francisco. Both were 2-1 for the home team lol. Just like hockey I'm 1-0.

Gonna bring my glove and camp out in center field before the game to catch some baseballs in batting practice, as well as pick up any home runs/foul balls during the game.

So how about it, GM. We all knew McCutcheon was good, but did anyone think he was this good? Is he the reason for the Pirates' turnaround, or is he seeing better pitches, now that he has some protection?

Can your boy Buster edge him out for MVP? B)
Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Quite the outing for Jays' reliever Steve Delabar last night. Appearing in the 10th, he struck out 4 batters in the inning. (one reached first on a passed ball)

Although this has happened several times over the years, it was apparently the first time ever in extra innings, putting Delabar in the MLB record book.

To make it even better, Delabar struck out two more in the 11th and earned the W....

Melky Cabrera suspended 50 games by MLB after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs:

San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has been suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball after testing positive for testosterone. Cabrera, in the midst of a career season with the first place Giants, was the winner of this year’s All-Star Game MVP.

Near the end of July, rumors began circulating of a failed drug test, but Cabrera and the Giants denied the accuracy of such speculation.

It could be that the test came back positive at this time, but the player appealed the original decision. This is a more than merely interesting side note in that it allowed San Francisco the time to acquire Hunter Pence prior to the trade deadline, a move that now softens the blow of Cabrera’s departure.

More recently, there was talk that negotiations between the Giants and Cabrera on a long-term extension ahead of his pending free agency this coming off season had broken down. These rumors make a little bit more sense now.

Is it just me or does it seem that the Rays have been on the wrong end of a perfect game a few times now in the past few years.

Oh sure Felix pitch a perfect game during a weekday, not like any of us would want to see that on sportsnet pacific at night. God atheletes can be so selfish sometimes. Sucks about Melky, hope my Giants can rebound.

Anyone watch the Jays/WSox game tonight? What was up with the TV coverage? Buck Martinez and whomever his side-kick was, kept talking about the same thing over and over again. It was like they weren't in the building. The camera even caught a ball rolling into the dugout after infield warmups. Very strange evening, but my Sox won, so who cares.
