Let wellwood go;
Sign Sundin to a 1 year 3 million dollar deal
Sign Zubov to a 1 year 2.5 million dollar deal
Re-sign Hansen 2 years .850k
Resign Lu to a 6 year 45 million. Cap hit 7.5
Trade Schenider for a Good defensive prospect; dont know who

Sedin(6.1) Sedin (6.1)Samuelson(2)
Kesler(1.75) Sundin(3) Demitra(4)
Burrows(2) Hogson (.875)Bernier(2)
Raymond(.9) Johnson(1.1) Rypien (.55)
Ex) Hansen(.85), Hordi(.775)

Mitchell(3.5) Zubov(2.5)
Edler(3.25) Salo(3.5)
Obrien(1.6) Bieksa(3.75)

Lu(6.75)
Raycroft(.5)

Cap hit =57.35 million little over the cap i think; i guess there might not be room for Hansen

Give Grabner 1 more year in the AHL before a full time role next season. If Hodgson doesn't do well send him back to the OHL after his first 9 games and throw Kesler on the 3rd and Raymond or Bernier on the second then. so something like this

Sedin Sedin Samuelson
Raymond Sundin Demitra
Burrows Kesler Bernier
Hansen Johson Rypien/Hordi

The season after we should have decent cap room cause Sundin, Demitra Zubov will be gone giving us plenty of cap room for FA signings and for our younger players to step up

I would just take a few names that we could sing that would fill some spots, cut out their pictures, line them up on a dart board and take two darts:
1. For picking a player
2. Throwing at any opposing North West star (where is Miikka Kiprusoff?)
QUOTE (PLOGUE @ Sep 4 2009, 07:00 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
How hard would it be to outplay Hordichuk? Skate in a circle a couple of times..miss a hit, make a mean face..and sit on the bench for the rest of the game.

Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson
Demitra - Wellwood - Grabner
Burrows - Kesler - Bernier
Hordichuk - Johnson - Rypien

Raymond, Hansen, Hodgson

Salo - Edler
Keith - Bieksa
Mitchell - O'Brien

Rome, Davison

Luongo
Raycroft

To Chicago:

2nd Round 2010 Pick
Cory Schneider

To Vancouver:

Duncan Keith
5th Round 2010 Pick

The trade is pretty obvious. We need a puck moving defenceman. And we get one with trading Schneider, a goalie that we don't really need with my beliefs that Luongo WILL stay here. Chicago will need a back-up as in my opinion I really do not believe that Huet can carry the Blackhawks far into the playoffs. Therefore in the near future Schneider can do so and play some games in Chicago.

The lines I have posted are pretty straight forward. With Samuelsson's international success with the twins I hope they can make some chemistry, similar to what Anson Carter was able to do.

With Grabner OR Raymond being the only real supposedly goal scoring prospects we have, putting them with the 2 players that have great vision on the ice is a must.

Kesler and Burrows as we saw in this past year have great chemistry and Bernier had a nice run with Kesler too, with Bernier undergoing some training this off-season he will hopefully be able to play with the fast-paced style that Kesler and Burrows do.

The 4th line is nothing to really talk about, Hordichuk and Rypien add grit and toughness and Johnson's checking and shot blocking is a nice fit too.

Salo and Edler, both have great defensive capabilities with both having wicked shots.

Bieksa and Keith will be a great defensive combo with both having the ability to move the puck out of our zone.

Mitchell and O'Brien will be the defensive pair that gives the other team's star players nightmares. Mitchell will be a mentor and give O'Brien some advice on how to deal with star players and will build chemistry.

In the end, we have 3 lines that are capable of scoring and 1 that can cause havoc on the ice. With the newly acquired Duncan Keith we gain our wanted puck moving defenceman.

I think weather or not mr hodgson makes the team, means a decent amount. Honestly I would prefer it. I think he gives a youth and heart that this team needs. By heart I mean that, young players seem to work a bit harder at proving they belong.
It does put some players in more of a sticky situation because I think it leaves them out, example, in my opinion raymond.
Also you may notice that hordi/rypien change when coho is in or not, that makes no difference as I feel they are basically the same type players.
As well, In my opinion the second and third lines are somewhat interchangable and don't exactly become checking or scoring lines, its AV who plays better gets more ice. ALWAYS.

With CoHo...
Sedin Sedin Burrows
Demtra Welwood Samuelsson
Bernier CoHo Kesler
Hansen Johnson Hordichuck
Ryp/Ray

Bieksa Mitchell
Schnieder Edler
Erhoff Salo/Sob
Lukowich
Rome

Without...
Sedin Sedin Burrows
Demitra Kesler Samuelsson
Bernier Welwood Raymond
Hansen Johnson Rypien
Hordichuk
SAme D

trade salo, C schnieder, demitra, lukovich for heatley and a 2nd and 4th round draft pick. i dont know how fair that is but i was just trying to have enough cap space to afford heatley's 7.5mil contract.

2nd line- (C. Hodgson)? (R. Kesler)1.75 (D. Heatley)7.5

4th line- (M. Raymond ).760 ( R. Johnson )1.2 (R. Rypien).550

call ups- (hansen).550
(grabner).765

1st d pair - (A. Edler)3.250 (C. Erhoff)3.150
2nd d pair- (W. Mitchelle)3.500 (M. Schnieder)1.550

What I'm hoping for is 4 lines of pure offense. Though I realize its not really practical considering our undersized defense, it would still be so much fun to watch.

H Sedin - D Sedin - Samuelsson
Demitra - Kesler - Burrows
Raymond - Hodgson - Grabner
Johnson - Wellwood - Bernier

Shirokov/Rypien/Hordichuk

Schneider - Mitchell
Edler - Salo
Erhoff - Bieksa

O'Brien/Lukowich

Luongo
Raycroft

I know this is a little far-fetched, but with Demitra out maybe but Kesler back on the wing like when he was playing with Sundin.

Daniel - Henrik - Burrows
Kesler - Wellwood - Bernier
Samuelsson - Hodgson - Shirokov
Raymond - Johnson - Rypien

Hansen/Hordichuk/Grabner

Bieksa - Mitchell
Edler - Salo
Ehrhoff - O'brien
Schnieder

Lukowich

Luongo
Raycroft

IR: Demitra and Schneider

This is my pick for the start of the season, but it will be over the cap once Demitra and Schneider are back unless some other 3mil+ player gets hurt and moved to IR which is always a 50-50 chance. Nice problem for top brass to deal with this year given they have options with a stacked young Moose team. It is still a business so my guess is they would like to move one dman and one forward, and the three possible dmen to move could be Salo(3.75), Bieksa(3.5), or Lukowich(1.8) which is a shame because they are all three very good players. The possible forward to move that would have any significant salary cap help is Demitra(4.0). In fact if Demitra goes then perhaps none of 8 top payed dmen would need to go. Again it would hurt to lose Demitra, but it is a business, and we are deepest at right wing, so I would be trying to move him for future picks. Nay sayers about Wellwood, Raymond and Hansen need to appreciate that they are all three great players for the amount they are being paid and it is guys like that who will need to be woven into the fabric of the team in our salary cap world--I like their play. All the talk about our goalie Schneider being trade bait is a bit premature given he will not be any salary cap problem this year, and any discussions about him will heat up more during the 6 week window of Olympics where he will get his shot with a few games in the big league. (The suggestion that these guys have a last chance now is nonsense because with several of our players in the Olympics, and with the usual number of injuries, they will get another chance soon enough.) I got to say I like our team this year, and the fact that we are so deep that we still have 37 players with the big club as of Sept 26th is a testament to our depth. Happy to hear where others agree or think I am off the mark. I am not a usual poster but thought I would give it a try.

Nice post. Looks pretty spot on.
