I don't know how anyone could write off a 23 year old dman in the AHL who played a lot of minutes last year. The progress that the young Moose dmen made last year was impressive. The Canucks took a hugh number of game man minutes out of the Moose defense last year and yet they held up under the increased pressure. McIver played the most number of minutes in the NHL but this fall's camp should be interesting.

Defintyl Heshka is way more capable of playing in the NHL than Mciver, Coloumbe, and whoever else they''l pick in front of him to play up.

He deserves a chance sme with Sharrow I know many think he is too horriblein his own zone but I think on the NHL team playing with Mitchell he could learn like Bieksa did and bring a wholenew level to his game he has the Offensive upside for the NHL. Just needs some defensive mentoring by a great definsive mind right now he has none to work with in Manitoba although Mitchell and Ohlund could sure rub a lot on to him

So what are the chances now of Heshka ever making the NHL.
His point production slightly decreased this year, but he is still a solid defensemen.

Slim to none I'd say.
He doesn't really bring anything to the table that we don't already have.
He's not overly big. He's not fast. Not a great passer. Not a great offensive threat.
He's like a mini-Bieksa without the upside.

I've seen him play live for the moose on a few occasions, I haven't been overly impressed.

seems to have little to no poise in his own end, allows forecheckers to get right on top of him, and to compound the problem, he wasn't great along the boards so he lost a lot of 1 on 1 battles, leading to turnovers.

personally i didn't really like what i saw, and unless he improves his decision making, and strength I don't see him suiting up for an NHL team

Offensive defensemen?!? I see him pass to the other D-man for a shot more than he takes his own shots...

Fortunas and Heshka are probably going to get an extra long look from Gillis now.

I haven't seen Ellington play, so keep in mind my opinions are based solely on where he is at development-wise.

I would rate Fortunas as having the potential to be better than both McIver and Heshka, but he would need to get some NHL action. I think he could do it and be a solid bottom pairing, possibly second pairing, defenseman.

McIver and Heshka are defensemen who are much the same in terms of the role they would have on an NHL team, the only thing they differ in would be skillset. McIver is more defensively minded, Heshka is more offensively minded. Both would get exposed if tasked to play big minutes for the club, IMO.

Ellington has yet to play any pro hockey so he would be the rawest of the bunch, although he has the greatest shot at being a mainstay on an NHL team. I'd have to see him play and see how he adjusts to playing in the AHL before I could say more.

Ellington Went to Manitoba in the end of March after Everett was out of the Playoffs.Played his first pro game which was Manitoba's last game of the season.Ellington scored the First goal of the game ,played 18 minutes and had 6 hits.

Probably time to close the Heshka thread. He'll have a better chance of cracking the lineup in Phoenix than he will here.
Good luck to mini-Bieksa.

Maxime Fortunas? I really hope so. I really like him. Probably one of my favorite Moose.
