Is it so hard to just phone your pals?

Texting is usually cheaper... for me anyways.

when I only have 100 daytime minutes, and 200 texts (free incoming texts).
Yes, it is so hard to phone my friends.

I go over my daytime minutes almost every single month, If it werent for my texts, you could add approx 200+ minutes to my bill I guess @ 30C a minute.

I guarantee you, the first time I get charged with it, I'll be filing a law suit under the Canadian Consumer Protection Act, which states it is against the law to charge a customer for something they never asked for (i.e. - I never asked for someone to send me a text message, and Telus won't allow to me remove/block incoming text messages, therefor as a customer I was not given an opportunity to avoid a charge for something I never wanted).

It will be the most expensive 15 cents Telus ever makes.

I stole my avatar from beergirl on the Leafs board.

That's stupid. If some guy hates you he can spam you with texts all day, assuming he has some text plan of his own.

moving back to Canada next month great news

You can easily judge a persons character on how he treats those who can do nothing for him.

What's this unlimited text plan for $10? Incoming call charges and the idea of not receiving messages when you have no credit are bad enough but this is outrageous, glad to be back on my contract now, although it is $70 a month. But with a free ps3.
It's bound to be less boring than today.

I imagine they'd argue that you asked for the ability to receive text messages by agreeing to use their services. I don't know how much ground that would hold in court, however.

Telus can go ???? themselves.
You have a choice not to take an incoming call, but you don't have a choice not to take an incoming text.
What about when their system ????s up, and you receive the message twice?
Thank god I have unlimited. At least I have unlimited outgoing, I will probably get charged for incoming.

It's easier just to text and say "I'm running late" or "meet me at the bar at 6". My friend texted me yesterday to say Bert and Mo signed.
It's quite often much more convenient to text.

I imagine you'll be given the option to receive the text or reject it.

Example: A text messages B. B's phone says "you've just been sent a text message from A, do you want to read it? 15 cent charge applies".

I think what they want everyone doing is signing up for their unlimited web surfing plans. That way everyone will be emailing each other instead of texting, and Bell/Telus will be guarenteed the extra 10 or 15 bucks a month the internet browsing plan costs.

I think people are misreading this article.

it is for PAY AS YOU GO customers only

every cell phone provider has an unlimited plan for like $10

regardless, Im with Fido and I pay $10 for unlimited text incoming and outgoing

Yes I was going to ask this. It looked like it was for Pay as you go only.

I don't give a crap, anyone who's still on pay as you go is either 14 or over 18 and dumb.

If you're on a contract then this doesn't apply to you. BEWARE to all who sign new contracts

I have a year left on my contract, but I never included text messaging in my plan, as 2 years ago I wasn't texting at all. So now I pay 15 cents for each outgoing text, and I guess soon enough I'll be paying 15 cents for each incoming.

Good thing I'm dropping the chick who I do most of my texting with.

I know! I've watched friends trade a dozen (or two) text messages with a person before finally getting impatient enough to call.

I have yet to send a text message myself, though I receive the odd text message from friends. I have no text messaging on my plan, just a few daytimes minutes and unlimited evening/weekend minutes.

I also receive text messages from Telus to inform me of things like free calling on my birthday, etc - will they charge for these??

$10 a month. $15 if you include voice mail and caller ID.

Not that expensive.

This makes no sense. So technically, if you hate someone and you know they don't have a text plan and you do, you could just send them 5,000 texts and then they'd have to pay for it.

Props to mr7 for the sig!
