Smoking will be banned from all area's at GM place starting Sept 15. No more going out for a smoke as there will no longer be any smoking areas.

Yes there is already another thread on the smoking ban at GM place but this is different. I'm a seasons ticket holder and sometimes I like to go out for a smoke in a DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA. I dont smoke like a chimney and puff in people's faces, I'm actually always trying to avoid exhaling in any direction where there are others.

If you're someone like me, just leave a reply with something short like "Smoke!" or "Aye!" to show your disapproval of this new rule.

**If you're not one of us, dont bother making your "statement" here.**

***This thread is just to see how many replies we can get to show the amount of people who feel they are negatively affected by this rule.***

Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done and why. Then do it.

Never try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

If you would pull your head out of your donkey, you might want to work with Wetcoaster (since he is a lawyer) on getting advice on how to start a probably futile, but at least get your cause out there in a "my addiction to tobacco is an illness" campaign or something similar and threaten all sorts of human rights crap.

You could threaten to ditch your season tixs...but of course there is a waiting list of people to take your place so that probably isn't the best idea.

Snap

I am not a smoker, but i do have to side on their sides. There is no detriment coming from individual smoking in a certain restricted zone away from the rest of the individuals. There was no need to ban the smoking, however, perhaps enforce the zone better to ensure people obey the regulations. For some smoking is part of life, others do it when having a beer, socially.. whatever.

I am not necessarily for lifting the ban, and against smoking in general, but am for democractic sanctions. Believing that it should be to the people to decide, not management of GM Place

"Mummy, mummy I was inconvenienced by someone today. Isn't there anything we can do?"
"What happened to you you poor little thing?"
"I'm not sure but I think someone looked at me the wrong way or at least they seemed to."
"You poor dear. Let me call your dad down at DuMauriier, Rothman & Players. We'll sue somebody's donkey."
"What's an donkey mommy?"
"Well some say it is people who get all worked up about.....oh never mind. And quit calling me mommy, you're 37 for gosh sakes, why aren't you at work?"

Then you should be able to see that this thread is more of an "online petition" just to tally up how many of us (smokers) there are. Where as in the other thread was meant to be informative.

I have no problem with designated smoking areas. That includes smoking rooms in pubs.

If your enjoyment of your rights infringes on the enjoyment of others' rights, then I have no sympathy. If you think that the smoke doesn't creep into GM Place, then you're being naive. Besides, it's a local law that applies to all buildings, not the Canucks' decision.

Speeding is against the law for two reasons. To protect against the individual who feels that it isn't unsafe, but more importantly to protect the innocent public.

Outdoor smoking area should be allowed as long as it is 6m from the entrance. It is a discrimination not allowing this.
Smoking is bad? fume from vehicle in parkade and street are worse, alcohol is bad too but somehow they allowing this too.
Why don't they just ban all together?

Booze can be bad for you in large quantities. But there's a bit of a difference between smoking and drinking. Second hand smoke is harmful and just as harmful as smoking it yourself. I've never heard of secondhand drinking. I guess if your a sloppy drinker, you could spash your "loud mouth soup" around and someone who is standing nearby might accidentally get some in his mouth while yawning! Vehicle fumes are a good comparison though.

Thanks to 1444 for the cool sig!!
