hammertime
I think its obvious Burr is a shell of his former self. That said he should finish the year with the club. If were buyers at the deadline and he isn't performing he would clear waivers and free up a roster spot and about a mill cap which would give us around a lil over 3 mill cap space at the deadline which as I understand it would be enough room to acquire approx 5m$ UFA. Come playoffs when the roster limit is raised Burr could be recalled just incase he's got another dragon to slay left in him.
VIC_CITY
You know, having had zero expectations of Burrows (maybe even less), he's managed to not look absolutely horrible, which is nice. As long as he can play good defense, kill a few penalties and be a positive influence on our team, then I think we should all be pretty happy. After all, it's not like he's really blocking any of our youth. More time in the AHL will help their development. Not sure what will happen once Rodin comes back though...
10pavelbure96
He has accepted his role as a 4th liner so far and he is relishing in it. Gotta love Burr
jammerculture
I can't stop laughing at people responding to this post with current information. I dunno just too funny. Like this post has literally gone through his entire career from when he was an up and comer to an integral part of our contending team, and now on the down slope. So like it started semi-relevant, then became a joke as we obviously wanted him and now has become almost relevant again. Too funny. When people make a new account on this board they should have to read this entire thread before they are allowed to post lol. I can almost see this thread becoming a class at Greendale in the future Community movie.

Sedin Brothers
Burrows is a grinder/enforcer now. The problem with Canucks fans is they're still expecting him to make plays. Reality is that we do need him, especially for depth when injuries come. Should he be second in the shootout? Despite a pretty good career %, no he shouldn't. But do we need him? You're damn right we do until our young guys develop.
*Buzzsaw*
Burrows looked good for the first 4 games... but like the rest of the team, he looked tired against the Kings. So he was reaching and hooking to keep up... with the obvious result. I love the guy, but he should play two games on, two games off. He's too old to play a full schedule. Slot Skille or one of the guys from Utica in his place... give them a chance
tirefire
i might have to revise my 12G/20A prediction for Burr this season....New prediction 8G/15A. Still not bad for an ECHL grinder

Popular Post Nuxfanabroad
Like The Lower Mainland itself, this famous thread suffers from urban sprawl. The topic has been & gone. To fit these uncertain times, the header should be placed in the past: Burrows, Did We Really Need Him? Yes we did, folks..& indeed, needed MORE players, like him. Ultimately though, we couldn't overcome the corruption of Bettman's rigged deck. I'm actually proud that this guy scratched, mucked & clawed out an overachieving career, after such an unheralded(undrafted) beginning. Many of us, in our sometimes overly-frustrating, 'daily grind', have probably received inspiration(& lived a little vicariously) though AB's accomplishment. Today, we sure do NEED a few more. But such cases are few & far between.

Popular Post higgyfan
@Nuxfanabroad says it very well. AB is a heart and soul player who worked his way from roller skate hockey, through the ECHL, AHL and finally got a 4th line roster spot on the Canucks. With amazing hockey IQ and a powerful passion for the game, he earned a spot on one of the best 1st lines in the NHL. The guy is legendary and worthy of +++ respect from anyone who loves the game of hockey. Yes, he is coming to the end of his career and will play his final days as the 12/13th guy. I really don't see how anyone can complain about that. This is the kind of guy you want around when the team is doing poorly or a young player is struggling. Burr has been there in every aspect of the game and knows what needs to be said. When the last shift of the last game of the season is played; I want to see fans celebrating his incredible contribution to the Vancouver Canucks. What a bittersweet day that will be.

xereau
Alex Burrows is one of the best examples for what great determination on part of a player, and his team, can achieve in the NHL. Burrows is the epitome of outside the box talent development success stories of the last decade, across the league. Undrafted, scouted in the ECHL, #1 ranked PKer for 2 years, to playing on the first line in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. His career is legendary to the Canucks and their fans. In my opinion, he should retire a Canuck, and join the consulting team in Utica.

His former ECHL coach was a friend of the Moose GM and recommended he give Burrows a tryout. He was signed by the Moose as a result of that tryout but was sent back to the ECHL after a poor preseason. He was later recalled by the Moose and then signed by the Canucks based on his performance that season. He literally fell into our lap based on a phone call from his former coach.

I hope that on the day after Burrows leaves the team, however that is, either a new thread or the Admins should edit this one to read that instead. As it is quite apparent that YES we did need him in many many games, including the Dragon Slayer game. He was the best triplet that played with the twins in their career. I don't have high hopes for Eriksson surpassing Burrows contribution to the top line. The Sedins need a Burrows-in-his-prime type of player, not a floating Swede, but that's a different topic.
