Well folks, according to the way Mike Gillis was talking about Kyle Wellwood this morning on the BMAC and Rintoul show, he is gonna make the team. When BMAC asked Gillis what he thought of Kyle and Krog, he said Jason has done everything they have asked him to and he has played real hard. He than stated that Wellwood is gonna play a limited role until he gets into top physical shape, which could take a few games meaning that he will probably be the 13th forward and get slotted in when he can until he gets his butt in shape. Discuss..

Discuss? You mean disgust, at both Wellwood and another thread about him.

BOO!

I'd keep Wellwood just for the fact he can do well in shootouts....we lost some valuable points last year because we lost in shootout

Can we start referring to the Sedins as one person instead of two? I propose Danrik Sedin.

Wellwood: All day, Everyday.

It only makes sense to keep Wellwood. The Canucks have plenty of "energy" players, grinders and defensively responsible guys. What the team lacks is guys who can pick a top corner when they want and have better than a 2 out of 10 shootout success ratio.
Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Welwood is one of the top offensively gifted players on this team and Gillis wasn't kidding when he said the Canucks were willing to work with him to get his career on track.

Looks to me as if Kyle put the effort in, and I hope it works out.

Man, we have some interesting depth. Gillis was right when he said he wouldn't be afraid to look at "ugly" players that don't always fit the box that other teams look for when acquiring players.
Busy cultivating useless good taste.

SUNDIN IS COMING. LOOK BUSY.

We're pretty much where I'd thought we'd be - out of the playoffs and no Demitra in the lineup. Coming in to this season anyone with a brain would be able to recognize that this isn't a playoff team, and they're performing just as I suspected they would.

Good idea..plan for the shootout. The game beforehand is irrelevant and should be done away with.

Or then of course there's always the Ferry

Also,
I'm putting together a list of the criteria to be a "real" Canuck's fan. So far I have this:

1. I cheer for the Canucks, whatever happens.
2. I never say anything bad about the Canucks.
3. I know the difference between "real" fans and posers just by how they post on the CDC or where they sit at GM Place.
4. I wouldn't dream of leaving a game before it ended, even if it meant missing a train, ferry or a threesome with the wife and her hot best friend?
5. I make 10+ posts a day and I have over 10,000 posts on the CDC, so my Canuck "street-cred" is huge. Go away noob!
6. No one F's with me. I train in MMA. I'm really tough. I'll curb stomp yo' donkey.
7. I make a tonne of $$$$.
8. I'm witty.
9. If it meant missing a game, I wouldn't study for a midterm.
10. I roll with a guy who has a wicked car.
11. I like to post "source?" a lot.

Agree...this "out of the box" approach so far looks interesting. Same with pick up of Ouellet today. He was one of those Quebec Juniors (I may be biased...haha) who was overlooked in early draft rounds as being "speedy and good hands but can he skate in NHL".....he drifted to 4th round even though he was discussed as potential first rounder at times. In NHL all he has done is score 54 goals in about 180 games. Not bad. Good depth guy with Moose who may turn out to be just "ugly" enough to help the big club.

Going to be an interesting season.

Also - he doesn't seem to care like Trevor did. He had better get hot quickly to preserve any of the dwindling respect anyone has for his abilities. He needs to prove that he's even a starter.

Wellwood (in the limited time he had) looked good last night, let him get used to the speed of the game again and the fact that he'll need to get a little grittier, and i could see him doing really good for us and taking over for guys in a slump. Let him play some third line or fourth line at the beginning of the year and make sure he is on the pp and wellwood could have a pretty good year and set him self up for securing a top 6 forward spot

Wellwood looks slow but could be our best puck handler. I'm glad we're keeping him because if he pans out he could be a diamond in the rough. If not, we aren't paying him much.

I had breakfast with a Maple Leaf fan this morning and Wellwood will pan out
He's a great one way skater, puck handler, and all that jive
We'll have to see how his back checking goes?
