Drafted in the 7th round, played for the giants and is doing pretty good so far in Manitoba.

How long till he makes the team?

When he was in the prospect games, he wasn't impressive at all. I think he is a bonified Ahl player but not an nhl player.

I believe his scouting report describes him as a 4th line defensive specialist, kinda ryan johnson, but with a tad more scoring. We'll see how he pans out.

How long? I'd be surprised if he ever gets a call up.

Wouldnt be this season, give him another couple years. At least until ryan johnson's contract runs out, before we pronounce judgment.

He'll be a mid to long term project, I would think. A couple years with Arniel might earn him some call-ups by the time he's 23 or so.

I bet he'll be playing back in Slovakia before he ever gets a shot at the NHL.

I like this kid, he is a steady center, with good speed and hockey sense. If he continues to develop at his current rate I could see him being a checking center in the NHL after a season or two.
Good Job Mike Gillis, I know you could do it!

I've perhaps seen more of Bliznak than anyone

His hockey-sense is through the roof, never makes a bad play
He's best in the corners, he'll always fish the puck out if he's got a man on him
If he's in a position to score, he'll score, dont expect him to pull an Ovechkin, but he wont fan at shots and he gets in the right shooting position
A poll of WHL gm's if i recall correctly, said he was the best two-way center in the dub

He'll be a very useful 4th line NHL player, PK specialist, the kind of you guy win cups with

Well said,

Bliznak has the skating and defensive ability to be an NHLer. If I also remember correctly, Bliznak was an excellent face-off man back in the WHL. As for that Poll you mentioned, Bliznak was voted best defensive forward in the Best of the West Poll. (voting done by players and management...and I think broadcasters as well. All the voters are from the Western Conference of the WHL)

People counting him out at 21 is a little premature, I'm sure at 21 nobody expected Burrows to be an NHLer one day, let alone one that can contribute quite well. If I also remember correctly, Bliznak was an excellent face-off man back in the WHL.

He'll be better than Bernier.

I think he has the potential to be more than a 4th liner. He was the top centerman for the Giants at one point and showed he has some offensive touch as well. If we weren't spoiled by having one of the best third line centermen in the league in Kesler, he'd look really good as a third line center.

Maybe the Canucks need to focus on top end talent and let guys like Bliznak fill up the bottom 6 positions.

Being a productive member of the Vancouver Giants does not translate into NHL success.

I did not say it would translate, but just the simple fact that he was given top line minutes to show he has some offense in his game to go with his good defensive play. I don't see how that wouldn't make him a good third liner.

Other than Brule, who was rushed into the league, there are a number of Giants players who were given proper development that are panning out to be good nhlers.
