one night
not sure if I would do that Rai is young at only just turning 19 and Zetterberg is almost pushing 30, plus there is no guarantee that the 1st Round Pick will amount to anything. (plus it's late in the round)
VictorHedman
Does Rai have any chance at playing for Canada at the World Jrs? I doubt he'll make it but i'm just wondering cause his numbers are pretty good.
Bite me Burr
I can absolutely guarantee that he does not make Team Canada. Numbers aren't everything.

Gnickers87
You are not getting enough for Rai, it should be Crosby, Malkin, 2009 and 2010 first round picks for Rai, come man he is the best, superstar, will surpass all of Gretzky's records in his first 10 years of playing in the NHL for sure........ AmazingNuck
Numbers in the NHL are significantly more important than production at the junior level.

elwin316
Hahha. There goes the "he's good in the WHL, therefore he'll be good in the NHL" argument again. Byron Ritchie scored over 120 points in the WHL. What did he do in the NHL? Exactly.
Ilya Mikheyev
Just for the record Ritchie was a 7th round draft choice, which even further hints that putting up big numbers in the WHL does not guarantee NHL success, nor does it guarantee being selected in the first or second round. Hinkil
the guys that make it are the ones who have more of a complete game, scoring in junior doesn't mean all that much outside of junior aka, jesse schultz.

adamzilla
You're saying that since Rai was also chosen in the late rounds, there's a less of a chance of him being successful? In that case, I'm not liking the negativity towards Prab Rai.
Gnickers87
man, people here are such beacons of negativity Bringing forth players like Ritchie and Schultz means diddely squat. Yes we get it, not all Junior players who put up points in Junior become NHLers. But then you got 9th Round Picks like Hansen with one PPG year in the WHL who do become NHLers. Or you gets like Burrows who go undrafted and become NHLers. There are cases each person can cherry pick to to support their reasoning as to why/why not Rai's numbers do/do not mean something. I'm sure everybody here realizes there are more Hockey players then there are NHL spots on a roster and that nobody is guaranteed an NHL career, be it a 1st Rounder or a 5th Rounder. But the fact of the matter is, would you rather he be putting up poor numbers so you can whine about him being a bust? Rai doing well sure as heck beats the alternative. Rather then people try to be all cool by acting "rational" or "realistic", how about you just enjoy the fact he is doing well. Rai is putting up points on the WHL, end up story. What he does or does not do in the future remains to be seen.

sameer666
perimeter players are able to excel in the juniors because the defenders arent really at a high level(comparatively speaking). this is mainly one of the big reasons why success in junior doesnt translate to AHL/NHL success. Even naslund didnt really prime until he learned to go to more dirty areas and became more gritty. I also think this is why he has been on the downfall too, he has slipped back to more of a perimeter player. anyways thats why rai was selected in the 5th round, he scores most of his points being a perimeter player. he will have to learn to get to more dirty areas to play the puck if he wants to translate his success from WHL to AHL and possibly NHL.
