This is the original studio recording of "She's Got a Way" in 1971. It was released as the very first track on Billy Joel's debut album, Cold Spring Harbor. Due a mastering error, the entire album was initially released with a higher pitch and tempo; as a result, Joel despised it. This is the remastered, corrected version of that recording, released in 1983. Unfortunately, the owner of the label that produced this record caused Joel and the engineers of the remastered version so much trouble that everyone involved has shunned this album completely. The remastered version is missing much of its original orchestration; meanwhile, the aforementioned owner of Family Productions continued to collect royalties for Joel's later hit records due to a bad contract.

Still, despite its dark history, this is my favorite version of the song. The more popular version was recorded live. Joel sings it here with such sensitivity.
