The Canucks really have to be impressed with this guy. Drafted 82nd overall in the 2006 Draft, not a lot of people devoted attention to Rahimi because of his relatively low-profile game, but that's exactly what is helping him and the Moose this year.

He may not ever produce points at any level of hockey, but the guy is a rock. At 6'3 and 213 pounds, he's an absolute wall and his skating has vastly improved from last year. He went from being a common scratch last year to playing top-4 minutes this year. He's an impressive +12 this season, and a +17 overall in the AHL level. Not only that, but he's been playing a relatively clean game- Only 69 penalty minutes in 83 career AHL games.

With guys like Ellington and Sauve still 2-3 years away from really contributing to the Canucks, and about a season or two away from contributing to the Moose, you have to imagine that Rahimi isn't too far down the depth chart for when it comes to a call-up.

It's good seeing the Canucks system finally pump out some rock solid defensive defensemen.

Major thanks to VC for the sig.

If he can work on his offensive play and his skating ability, i see him as a valuable player for the Canucks

I don't think his offensive game is what the Canucks are looking for in Daniel. I'm sure if he somehow picks up puck-moving ability between now and his first NHL game, it'd be a great addition to have; but the Canucks were intending for Daniel to be a very consistent shut-down defenseman.

His skating isn't the best, and his turning may be a weakness, but he's adapted quite well at the AHL level, and I don't see his development stopping any time soon. I expect that once the Dallas Stars re-gain an AHL team next year, Daniel Rahimi will replace Maxime Fortunus as the Moose's go-to guy for shutting down the other team's best forwards.

if he can be an effective shutdown guy then who cares about his offense
can he become the next mitchell? i never seen him play

Salo should be making $1.5M, not $3.75M, especially when he is hurt. I like that Mitchell for Johnson proposal. Injecting youth into our defensive corps would be good for us. Johnson and Mitchell are similar players, Erik has more offensive upside though.

J Bo's a bum, Bieksa would mop the ice with him in most aspects of the game.

I'd say more of a Shane O'Brien in terms of defensive ability; Willie Mitchell would be top-end.

Offensive game meaning pinching at the right time and such sorry. Daniel could make the Canucks if he works on the little things like that.

What are you guys smoking? Rahimi will never get more than a cup of coffee in the NHL! He's only got size. Other than that, he can't skate and he can't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

Unfortunately pretty accurate.

I'd be happy if he became a #6 D-man.

He'll be a Davidson. A great AHL defenseman, but unless he greatly improves his skating, he'll never be much more than a bottom pairing, #7 d-man. That being said, he's come a long way in a few years (i think it was 2 years ago he was playing - after being demoted - for the Salmon Kings), but i really don't see him making the Canucks anytime soon.

The OP mentioned Ellington and Sauve and people he might preceded, but i see him as being a #6/7 dman WHEN they are on the Canucks, not before. I think he needs a few more years developing (d-men take a lot longer to come into their own, usually making big steps as 25-26 year olds). Guys like Bieksa (who was 24 i think when he first played for the Canucks) or Edler are out of the ordinary. Unless your a top 10 draft pick, chances are you need time to develop. But at 6'3 he's got the size to play the NHL game.... I think if he became the next SOB, we should be happy; but he's Swedish raised and probably wont be much of a tough guy.

Canucks all-time leaders in Points, October 2009: 1. Markus Naslund (756 pts - 346 goals is most all time), 2. Trevor Linden (733 pts - 318 goals, second all time and 415 assists, first all time), 3. Stan Smyl (673 pts - 262 goals, third all time, 411 assists is second), 4. Thomas Gradin (550 pts), 5. Pavel Bure (478 pts - 1.12 point per game, highest as a Canuck), , 6. Henrik Sedin (475 pts - 360 assists) 7. Toni Tanti (470 pts) 8. Daniel Sedin (466 pts, 11 points from 5th all time) 9. Todd Bertuzzi (449 pts) 10. Don Lever (407 pts)
