He'll be a Davidson. A great AHL defenseman, but unless he greatly improves his skating, he'll never be much more than a bottom pairing, #7 d-man. That being said, he's come a long way in a few years (i think it was 2 years ago he was playing - after being demoted - for the Salmon Kings), but i really don't see him making the Canucks anytime soon.

The OP mentioned Ellington and Sauve and people he might preceded, but i see him as being a #6/7 dman WHEN they are on the Canucks, not before. I think he needs a few more years developing (d-men take a lot longer to come into their own, usually making big steps as 25-26 year olds). Guys like Bieksa (who was 24 i think when he first played for the Canucks) or Edler are out of the ordinary. Unless your a top 10 draft pick, chances are you need time to develop. But at 6'3 he's got the size to play the NHL game.... I think if he became the next SOB, we should be happy; but he's Swedish raised and probably wont be much of a tough guy.

He hits like a freight trAin. Big, tough mean SOB. If his skating keeps improving as it has he has the ability to step up and be a shut down d-man in 2-3 years down the road.

Sigh. Kronwall with Detroit is Swedish and if you remember from last years playoffs, he was one of the toughest guys throwing out the biggest hits...

He may not ever produce points at any level of hockey, but the guy is a rock. At 6'3 and 213 pounds, he's an absolute wall and his skating has vastly improved from last year.

That's excellent news. I saw him two years ago with the Salmon Kings, and I have to say, his footspeed didn't impress me. However, he hit like a hammer in the corners and was as tough a Swedish player as I've ever seen. If he's added some speed to his game, he may get a shot at being a callup next season.

Defensive d-men are always a plus, but I agree, if he can show a better all-around game by putting up a few points, it'll certainly help his case to get into the NHL.

P*ssies like Kronwall only hit because they know no one will instigate a fight with him.

Kronwall has one of the best open-ice hits in the league, and he keeps them clean. I don't know what you're going on about.

Rahimi isn't exactly the type of player to initiate those sort of hits- He still lacks the footspeed to catch himself if he misses the hit and falls out of play. However, he'd be the kind of guy to rattle the opposition along the boards and corners and really help the defense out in front of the crease. A very typical stay-at-home defenseman.

that's great to hear, I hope he can become the next Mitchell and hopefully earn a call up next season

I hope he doesnt become the next Mitchell because then he would be an overrated player who whines all the time.

You're a huge Rahimi homer. He's nowhere near the NHL level. Maybe in 3 years he'll get a chance as a 7th defenceman somewhere, but he is slow and doesn't have the most amazing hockey instincts.

Edler point prediction: 12 goals, 33 assists and 45 points / Edler point counter: 0 goals, 7 assists and 7 points.

I don't think his offensive game is what the Canucks are looking for in Daniel. I'm sure if he somehow picks up puck-moving ability between now and his first NHL game, it'd be a great addition to have; but the Canucks were intending for Daniel to be a very consistent shut-down defenseman.

His skating isn't the best, and his turning may be a weakness, but he's adapted quite well at the AHL level, and I don't see his development stopping any time soon. I expect that once the Dallas Stars re-gain an AHL team next year, Daniel Rahimi will replace Maxime Fortunus as the Moose's go-to guy for shutting down the other team's best forwards.

If he can learn to skate at the level of an NHL defenseman, then he'll be pretty useful.

Needs better puck control and skating for sure. On the flip side, most players his age don't improve skating easily.

He needs to skate and control the puck better at the same time. Maybe in a few years we can call him up.

He would make $640,000 if he was on our NHL roster.

He makes less than $70,000 in the AHL

I'm not saying that he can't hit, or that he's dirty, but regardless, guys like him do it because of the instigator rule. If he has to drop the mitts, he wouldn't keep up the hitting. The instigator rule, and the "new", pussified NHL, are what allow the Red Wings to ice essentially a European lineup.

Have you even read his profile or scouting reports? He's basically Bryan Allen, except with Swedish citizenship. I guess Allen is a pushover

Yeah...typical Swedish pushover... Everyone knows Swedes can't be tough players - just look at Mattias Ohlund, Peter Forsberg, Ulf Dahlen, Mattias Norstrom, Johan Franzen, Niklas Kronwall...
Teams that had a more successful year than the Canucks:
Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes...
...That's it.

If I recall correctly, he played in the two preseason games against the Calgary and Edmonton prospects, both of which were streamed on CDC. I recall him making some big hits and taking some physical penalties, looked like a real mean mother. I can't recall what his skating ability was like, but prospect reports I've read online don't look promising.
