So someone of you may remember last June Jofu (now Cody Hodgson) ran a mock draft for the upcoming 2008 NHL entry draft. See link here:

http://forum.canucks...mock+draft+jofu

Many of us who took part in it said we were going to make of note of who we picked and follow then to see how they did. So that being said here is a look at who I picked and how they did over the 2008/2009 season. I picked for the Habs. I hope others will update there picks as well and comment on mine.

1) Mattias Tedenby (25th overall)
Actually Drafted by- NJ 24th overall
who Montreal Drafted here- Traded to CGY who drafted Greg Nemisz
2008/2009- another slow statistical season for Mattias playing in the SEL with only 4pts in 32 games. That being said Tedenby looked good during the world jrs in putting in a highlight real goal and adding 4 assists in 6 games. Despite a lack of production he still looks like an ellite prospect and NJ fans seem happy to have him but time will tell on this one.

2) Shawn Lalonde (55th overall)
Actually Drafted by: CHI 68th overall
who Montreal drafted here- Danny Kristo
2008/09- 53 pts in 66 games, a nice improvement from his 31pts in 66 games in 07/08. Appeared in OHL all-star game. Voted best skater in eastern conference in OHL coaches poll. Overall this seems like a solid but not fantastic 2nd round pick.

3) Eric O'Dell (85th)
Actually drafted by: Ducks 39th overall
who Montreal drafted here- Steve Quailer
2008/09- traded to the Thrashers for Erik Christensen. Slowed down from his fantastic season last year but still put up 63 pts in 65 games for a poor OHL team, not bad for a 3rd rounder.

4) Brodie Ried (116th)
Actually drafted by: not drafted
Who Montreal drafted here- Jason Missiaen
2008/09- slower statistical season then last year (guess all the NHL scouts passed him over for a reason) but still managed to get 63 pts in 65 games. Traded to Pentiction halfway through season. Committed to Northeastern in the fall so it should be interesting to see how he does against stiffer talent at the college ranks.

5) Mike Murphy (206th)
Actually drafted by: CAR 165th overall
Who Montreal drafted here- Patrick Johnson
2008/09- arguabbly the steal of my draft Murphy continued from his OHL goalie of the year 2007/08 season this year and is the favourite to win that prize again. He led the OHL in GAA (2.08) and save percentage (.941!!). Won 2 OHL goalie of the month awards. Signed by Huricanes this year to an entry level contract. Some say his size and unorthodox style may hurt his chances of success in the NHL but they said the same about Tim Thomas who is the same height (5'11) as Murphy btw.

Pretty good stats for a defenseman.

Overall it was a pretty good draft, wasted my pick on Reddick.

Oh well
Steve Mason - 2points, Kyle Wellwood - 1point

Great you joined yesterday, and something titled 2008 June mock draft doesnt matter to you.

Since you are new, let this be a lesson, if you dont have something constructive to add or if you could care less. dont post click back on your screen and find a thread that you can actually contribute an educated thought about.

I dont mean to jump down your throat, but the posts are getting worse by the day on this board, and hopefully you can add something better than this drivel in the future.

Welcome to CDC.

hawks draft

2. DREW DOUGHTY, D, Guelph Storm (OHL) - (from LA) Chicago Blackhawks
went #2- great pick might end up being the best player in the draft, can't remember what i traded to get him but imo well worth it.

11. ZACH BOYCHUK, C, Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL) - Chicago Blackhawks
went #14- almost made the canes this year, won anoth gold and is looking like a solid nhl 2nd liner

47. AARON NESS, D, Roseau High (USHS) - (from LA via CAL) Chicago Blackhawks
went 40- had a solid freshman year at UM, is still atleast 2 years away, 17 pts in 37 games

102. JACOB DESERRES, G, Seattle (WHL) - Chicago Blackhawks
went 84- had a shaky year this year lost #1 goalie job, still has upside imo to be a solid goalie

115. MARCO SCANDELLA, D, Val d'Or (QMJHL) - (from LA via MIN) Chicago Blackhawks
went 55- had a solid year 37 pts in 57 games, looks to be a few years away from the nhl but should get there

124. GUSTAV NYQUIST, C, Malmo (SuperElit) - (from LA via ATL) Chicago Blackhawks
went 121- had a good freshman year at maine, 32 pts in 38 games, the wings took him to so you know he'll be pretty good

132. BRADY HJELLE, G, Cedar Rapids (USHL) - Chicago Blackhawks
went undrafted- has stuggled to find his way this year and sits 3rd on the depth chart at University of Minnesota Duluth, i hope he can get his act together next year and get some playing time other wise i can see him signing as a free agent after his 4 years. he will have a tough road if he wants to be an nhler

trades
#1

C Anze Kopitar
W Dustin Brown
2nd pick overall

To Los Angeles:

RW Patrick Sharp
71st pick overall

heres another one from april i think

my picks

my canucks draft, what did you guys think?

12- Mattias Tedenby LW HV 71 5"10 175
went 24- had a bit of a shaky year, still has great wheels though, is still a couple years away

38- Jared Staal RW Sudbury 6"3 200
went 49- still has some work to do and is a few years away, 52pts in 67 games

40- Danick Paquette RW Lewiston 6"0 210
went 64- has improved his skating a little, 50pts in 61 games still a bit of a project but should end up on the 3rd/4th line one day

68-Robert Czarnik C/RW USA U-18 6"0 180
went 63- still has blazing speed, 16 pts in 38 games as a freshman

70- Julien Demers D Ottawa 6"0 220
went 146- had a very solid year with 42 pts in 61 games

72- Ian Schultz RW Calgary 6"2 185
went 87- had a decent year on a real good hitman team, 41 pts in 58 games

94- Erik Karlsson D Frolunda Jr 5"11 170
went 15- steal of the draft here, how he got to 94 i don't know, 10 pts in 45 games but we all know he's going to get better

114- Joel Broda C Moose Jaw 6"0 195
went 144- another steal, 53 goals and is looking like he'll be an excellent nhler around the net

130- Tyler Schmidt D Tri City 6"1 210
went undrafted- has improved his skating a lot and had 41 pts in 66 games, should get picked this year

160- Maxiam Trunev C/W CHEREPOVETS 2 5"11 180
went 138- 5 pts in 32 in khl, has a ton of skill and may be an nhler one day

170- Brett Theberge C Peterborough 6"0 190
went undrafted- 42pts in 61 games on a rebuilding petes team, i don't expect much out of him, maybe he gets picked late this year

190- Stefan Della Rovere LW Barrie 5"11 190
went 204- 51 pts in 57 games, won a gold and is looking like he'll find his way on the 3rd/4th line one day

overall my draft started slow but grabbing broda and karlsson in the middle made up for it, della rovere was a steal late too

6. Cody Hodgson

Actual position taken: 10th (How lucky we are)
Team: Vancouver Canucks

Enough said.

36. Johan Motin

Actual position taken: 103rd
Team: Edmonton Oilers

Bit of a drop off here, but the Oilers saw what I did. A physical stay at home defenseman. Currently playing for Farjestads BK.

66. Cody Goulobef

Actual position taken: 37th
Team: Columbus Blue Jackets

We saw what he did at the WJHC. He’ll be a prominent part of the Jackets future defense core. Currently playing for the U. of Wisconsin, posted 13 pts in 36 GP.

80. Jacob Legace

Actual position taken: 134th
Team: Buffalo Sabres

Seems I ranked some guys higher than real NHL scouts. Currently playing for Chicoutimi, finished the season with 69 pts in 64 GP.

87. Robert Czarnik

Actual position taken: 63rd
Team: Los Angeles Kings

Couldn’t locate his stats easily so I gave up. Laziness kills children. Not directly, but in the long run. Those of you with decent grammatical skills and a sharp mind will get this part.

97. Justin Florek

Actual position taken: Not Drafted
Team: N/A

Well, my first miscue.

118. Marc Andre Bourdon

Actual position taken: 67th
Team: Philadelphia Flyers

Solid all around defender with size, offensive touch and tenacity. Played in 54 games for Rimouski and Rouyn Noranda, registering 60 points and 102 PIMS. The question remains if he can produce at the NHL level.

141. Max Nicastro

Actual position taken: 91st
Team: Detroit Red Wings

The very fact Detroit went after him makes me think he’s got some kind of talent. A solid defender who registered 30 points in 52 games for the Chicago Steel of the USHL.

190. Justin Azevedo

Actual position taken: 153rd
Team: Los Angeles Kings

The Kings took the same long shot that I did. Undersized but still effective, he played in 40 games for the Manchester Monarchs registering 11 goals and 22 assists to go along with 18 PIMS. Solid AHL player at the least.

Final verdict seems to show some hits, and some misses. Overall all but one of my picks were picked. I think the important part to remember here, is that we have Cody Hodgson.

You just don't do it. Don't even think about it.

i butchered the wild, yes but i gained solid prospects and got damn good value. i cant remember a damn thing of where i picked them but i know who i did.

colten teubert 25th
top 15 by the kings steal at this spot

jared staal 28th
way earlier than needed, probably could have done more homework on this pick.

jake gardiner
a steal, taken by the ducks in the 1st round

mikhail stefanovich

andrei loktionov
currently playing in the memorial cup with intentions to stay here. best pick i made.

maksim chudinov

all solid prospects, with the only question marks on chudinov and stefanovich a la his work ethic.

With everything said and done, I still consider this to be very early in the developmental process of these players. However, it's 1 year after being drafted to be a pro, so let's see how they've done.

60. Yann Sauve---actually selected 41st by your Vancouver Canucks.
91. Cory Fienhage---actually selected 81st by Buffalo Sabres.
92. Philip Larsen---actually selected 149th by Dallas Stars.
119. Nathan Condon---actually selected 200th by Colorado Avalanche.
123. Mathieu Brodeur---actually selected 76th by Phoenix Coyotes.
134. Matt Delahey---actually selected 112th by New Jersey Devils.
135. Taylor Stefishen---actually selected 136th by Nashville Predators.
146. Igor Revenko---undrafted.
147. Julien Cayer---actually selected 151st by Detroit Red Wings.
153. Oskars Cibulskis---undrafted.
157. Nicklas Lasu---actually selected 124th by Atlanta Thrashers.
160. Oliver Lauridsen---undrafted.
