Many of us who took part in it said we were going to make of note of who we picked and follow then to see how they did. So that being said here is a look at who I picked and how they did over the 2008/2009 season. I picked for the Habs. I hope others will update there picks as well and comment on mine.
1) Mattias Tedenby (25th overall)
Actually Drafted by- NJ 24th overall
who Montreal Drafted here- Traded to CGY who drafted Greg Nemisz
2008/2009- another slow statistical season for Mattias playing in the SEL with only 4pts in 32 games. That being said Tedenby looked good during the world jrs in putting in a highlight real goal and adding 4 assists in 6 games. Despite a lack of production he still looks like an ellite prospect and NJ fans seem happy to have him but time will tell on this one.
2) Shawn Lalonde (55th overall)
Actually Drafted by: CHI 68th overall
who Montreal drafted here- Danny Kristo
2008/09- 53 pts in 66 games, a nice improvement from his 31pts in 66 games in 07/08. Appeared in OHL all-star game. Voted best skater in eastern conference in OHL coaches poll. Overall this seems like a solid but not fantastic 2nd round pick.
3) Eric O'Dell (85th)
Actually drafted by: Ducks 39th overall
who Montreal drafted here- Steve Quailer
2008/09- traded to the Thrashers for Erik Christensen. Slowed down from his fantastic season last year but still put up 63 pts in 65 games for a poor OHL team, not bad for a 3rd rounder.
4) Brodie Ried (116th)
Actually drafted by: not drafted
Who Montreal drafted here- Jason Missiaen
2008/09- slower statistical season then last year (guess all the NHL scouts passed him over for a reason) but still managed to get 63 pts in 65 games. Traded to Pentiction halfway through season. Committed to Northeastern in the fall so it should be interesting to see how he does against stiffer talent at the college ranks.
5) Mike Murphy (206th)
Actually drafted by: CAR 165th overall
Who Montreal drafted here- Patrick Johnson
2008/09- arguabbly the steal of my draft Murphy continued from his OHL goalie of the year 2007/08 season this year and is the favourite to win that prize again. He led the OHL in GAA (2.08) and save percentage (.941!!). Won 2 OHL goalie of the month awards. Signed by Huricanes this year to an entry level contract. Some say his size and unorthodox style may hurt his chances of success in the NHL but they said the same about Tim Thomas who is the same height (5'11) as Murphy btw.
